GDT: Preseason stickpuck

Not sure if it was mentioned. But seems like the Storm Squad is no more and has been replaced with the “Canes Crew”. They were a bunch of guys & girls, dressed in the Tom Dundon adidas track suits tossing t shirts and holding “Let’s Go Canes” signage.

the storm squad should never die - it was one of the first of the many, many, many ways our franchise pissed off more latitudinally-endowed teams/fanbases.

I must be the only one who watched TDA last night and didn’t see anything close to a Hamilton replacement. Yes he moved the puck on the PP, he also made a couple of sloppy turnovers in his own zone and was 50/50 on his defensive reads. It wasn’t a standout horrible game or anything, but against AHL’ers that’s a lot closer to Joe Corvo than it is to Hamilton.

Just remember he hasn’t played competitive hockey since January. Team scrimmages and practices are different than even a pre-season game. He’s not great defensively, but his turnovers were never a problem with NYR

Random memory. But I remember in the early days where we had some male storm squad members that would wear cowboy hats. They would slingshot the tshirts to the roof of the building every time.

There was one sequence in the first period that kind of annoyed me about TDA. There was a lightning player circling in front of the net waiting for the puck to come out. TDA was really soft on him and had it been NHL players I imagine it would’ve ended up in the back of the net. It was the first preseason game after a ton of time off for him though so it’s not the end of the world. Hopefully they’ll address it with the video coaches.

For his on ice performance, I'm willing to give TDA some time. All the time off, it's just preseason, and we have seen some new guys struggle with the system. He didn't look horrifically bad for the most part, so that's a decent enough start for me.

I think we can basically expect TDA to likely be bad defensively. The hope is he is good enough on offense and in transition to be a net positive.

Like every other Canes fan, I've already made my mind up about TDA and this will in no way reflect in the opinions I post about him now or the future.

I'll be cool with the Storm Squad when Mrs. Hank is, and Mrs. Hank will be cool with the Storm Squad when they've got beefcake dudes with banana hammocks.

Boys and girls can both play hockey, and boys and girls can both be objectified for money!

Moved the puck really well, especially on the PP. Really like that part. There were moments where he was ineffective defensively, but then other moments where he made some rather nice defensive plays. Basically, he seemed to be exactly as advertised. Stellar offensive talent who's not that reliable in the back end.

Very nice. I think with some reps, he’ll be better defensively. He works hard on his game. And he has a ton to prove. I’m way higher on him than I was on Skjei.
