We’re banking LTIR savings on the cap for like 3 months with the two big injuries, right?
I don't think it works like that. You only get LTIR savings if the player doesn't return until after the regular season.

The Kings got LTIR savings last year from Arvidsson being on LTIR and he returned with a couple of months left.

The Kings got LTIR savings last year from Arvidsson being on LTIR and he returned with a couple of months left.

Last season the Kings opened the season with limited cap space and were only able to carry 21 players.

With Arvidsson on LTIR the Kings were able to carry more than one extra player.

This season the Kings are already capable of carrying 23 players.

The LTIR "bonus" would theoretically allow them to acquire a high priced player BUT once Doughty returned they would need to become cap compliant again which would result in them needing to trade other players in order to compensate for the extra salary.

The "bonus" teams earn when their player is out until the playoffs is that they never need to have that compliance balancing.

If Stone misses the entire season and they bring in another high priced player they can play both of them in the playoffs and sort out the cap discrepancies in the off-season.

The potential value the Kings will actually be able to see from LTIR won't be clear until we know how long Doughty may be out for.

If his return will be during the season it would be difficult to utilize the LTIR benefit gained from his contract. If his return will not be during the season the challenge would be finding players with a high on ice value but low acquisition cost.

What’s wrong with giving an educated opinion? It’s nice to have medical professionals try to break down for someone like me who doesn’t know what I’m looking at. You’re reading too much into the intent.
Just for added context, here's one of the accounts I follow. This is an ER doctor clearly giving his opinion but he breaks it down, gives clear description of what's happening to the body, and explains the injuries he thinks occurred:

  • While on LTIR, Cap Space is no longer accrued, meaning any portion of the LTIR pool not used cannot be used later.
  • When a player comes off LTIR, the team’s annual cap hit for that day must be under the Cap

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't recall the Kings getting any savings some RV being on LTIR. If they did, you'd think they would've had cap space at the deadline to make a move.

Is this part of the LTIR rule new?

  • To qualify for LTIR, a player must be expected to miss at least 10 NHL Games AND 24 days of the NHL season

This should say when Stone misses the entire season...

I feel like the lack of Doughty news means they are looking for second opinions. Probably not good news.

Hiller . Blake and possibly higher in the food chain's necks may be on the line.

Clarke may see time on PP1 but will be sheltered in some sitchys.

Even 5 on 5 , Brough and Clarke may switch pairs depending.

Gav - Spen

Anderson - Clarke

Edmo - Brough

Movie

A little weird to see Mikey down on third pair but I get the continuity approach with Clarke and Edmundson

Bro lets take slow measured approach for every step.

You want a not 100% DewD for the regular season or 100 % + LTIR bonus at the start of the playoffs?

It's called getting Stone.

And blowing smoke at the 15 other playoff teams.

On the positive side, the Kings free up $4.25 million according to CapFriendly.com, allowing them to recall more players. It also increases their accruable cap space limit. Capfriendly explains the process more in depth here.

The biggest news is that Arvidsson has been placed on LTIR, which opens up the roster from a flexibility standpoint. Naturally, we’d rather have Viktor Arvidsson in the lineup. He’s a dynamic creator who is a driving force on his line and on the power play, one of the most gifted and impactful offensive players in the organization. The Kings will miss him while he recovers from a lower-body injury that will have him sidelined, at least through November 4, which would be the team’s eleventh game of the season.

What this transaction does is free up cap space

I just reread what you wrote and I think we're saying slightly different things.

More than likely it's just all the imaging that needs to be done for an injury like this. They are doing radiographs to look for fractures to the hard tissue, and then also MRI to look for ligament or tendon damage.

The MRI especially can take a long time because of the precautions you need to take, and generating the images takesfa fair bit of time.

Lastly a doctor has to come up with a treatment plan and a recovery timetable after reviewing all the images. So it's likely just the team is still waiting to hear the final verdict.

Because in this case, he has no imaging and threw out potential diagnoses based on a cursory glance that he had to amend in a later tweet after "watching it more."

So, it wasn't a very educated opinion.

Here's the thing, if he gave a clear breakdown of how certain impacts could vary in different ways, I would have loved it. I follow plenty of accounts on different topics outlining their opinion in 30-200 tweets providing useful and interesting information, including factors that could affect their opinion.

Saying "broken ankle, 6 weeks. Torn achilles, season ending. Here's a test to find out how" is, I'm sorry, lazy. And I honestly don't think it's helpful or interesting.

What part of the ankle looks like it could be fractured based on how he hit the boards?

Does the location affect recovery time? Would it impact future skating strides?

Is it possible it's just a gnarly sprain (that a non-MD suggested in his thread that he didn't even consider to mention)?

View attachment 910053
If yes, what would be the recovery window?

A sprain (injury involving the ligament) is different from a torn tendon. I also saw he's a family doctor. So, his specialty isn't even sports medicine.

I appreciate that someone has an interest in hockey and that he tweets about it, but I simply expect better from doctors offering their medical opinion. Especially in today's climate where people are anti-vaxx, because they don't trust in the medicine.
That’s kinda how I felt about it. He pretty much made a diagnosis that most of us could have made. The ‘Achilles’ piece would have been a more insightful diagnosis, which he back tracked on (I wonder if someone corrected him).

Given how many experiences of misdiagnosis I’ve been involved in personally and with my kids, I find it nonsensical for even a specialist to diagnose based on a vide… but a family doc? Laughable.

Just when I thought I couldn't hate pre-season sports any more than I already did.

Get well soon DD.
What does preseason have to do with it? He fell awkwardly making a seemingly innocuous play of trying to check a puck carrier.

I still don't think this means you're accruing cap space in the way people think.

It reminded me of how Byfield got hurt. The way Drew fell, with both his legs getting caught like that, could've gone so much worse.
