TSN: Preds listening to offers on Saros.

Yeah the best I would offer as a devils fan is either

1. Casey + picks / lesser prospect (Stillman etc) / ahl talent (Footes, Clarke..) + Vanecek
or
2. Hämeenaho + Gritsyuk + picks / lesser prospects / ahl talent + Vanecek

And I think many teams could match that. Nashville doesn't want older Veterans and I wouldn't want to give up our young roster players as that would be one step forward and another one backwards.

At most maybe Holtz, but only because Ruff hates him and refuses to give him icetime. He's pacing to 20 goals in bottom6 (4th line atm) minutes, surely he'd be a 30+ goal scorer with 1st line + 1st pp minutes. I'd hate to lose Mercer as I feel like he is the type of player (two way grinder with skill) that cup contenders are build from. And absolute no for Nemec and Hughes.

I love Saros, especially as a Finn, but like always goalies are unpredictable and you never know how will they adjust to new system and environment. Will he extend or just bounce after the contract is up.

i think it would be a mistake to give up Mercer. Holtz and a pick make more sense to me. Ive watched Saros this year, and I know they aren’t a great team in front of him but he has not looked good. I’m not sure he’s going to be worth the price unless he’s just been in a funk, if the price is any more than that. With only one year left Saros is set up to be a losing acquisition for whoever overpays. Unless you win the cup in the next two years of course…

He hasn’t looked like a cup winner, at all.

Value feels like a high 2nd and two low 1sts. Nothing special here but three solid assets.

Toronto needs to add a goalie for cap purposes. Nashville clearly punting on the decent season they are having. Which is kinda odd.

They can ask for whatever since I suspect that the goal is definitely to try and re-sign him and that he is really not available. But it would be a record haul if they got anything close to the supposed ask.

As I said, whenever is healthy you can put Lazar or Nosek at 4C instead of Tierney.
Trenin is a better fit for a Miles Wood replacement as a crash and bash winger, although not as good as skater as Wood.

Buf goalies have posted more shutouts in the past week than the Devils goalies have in the full season. *By 2*. UPL has allowed 3 goals total in his past 4 games played.

There’s a pretty big disparity in need there.

Both of those are wingers and I bet would do even worse than Tierney in C role. Nosek is in LTIR anyway. Now that McLeod has become a skillful 3C, we need another defensively solid 4C. So that the 4th line is not there just to give a rest for the other lines, but can actually contribute.

Or alternatively dropping McLeod back to 4th and acquiring someone like Henrique to play the 3C.

With the amount of potential playoff teams getting wrecked by their goaltending right now, this is a great move and he probably ends up in a bidding war and a massive haul.

That’s the only reason I hope the Wings stay away from him this.

Saros has been one of the best goalies in the league for years. With that being said he's had a rough year for his standards and is going to need a new and much larger deal very soon. With the amount required to get him this either sinks a franchise or gets them a cup. I'd love it if the Leafs could get him but the potential for this move to sink a team is very real.

I know Canuck posters can’t help themselves sometimes, but the multiple >>>>>>> were unnecessary. Skinner is a very good young goalie but currently does not have the experience that Saros has. He also plays (has played) behind an average defensive team his entire career. Skinner will be a top 10 goalie in the league.

Over the past calendar year, Skinner ranks 9th (filtered to included only goalies > 40 starts) in Sv% with .909, Saros is 8th at .910. Skinner is ahead of Vasilievskiy, Oettinger, Shesterkin, Bobrovsky, Georgiev….

I'm a Canucks fan and I agree, Skinner is the real deal.

Knies and Cowan both have more value now than at the draft. The Leafs 1st is not that low right now. And somehow you think trading cheap ELC options is the smart play for "cap purposes." Other than that you nailed it.

Knies is a ways away from being a legit top six player. He has not impressed this season. His value is above a low 2nd round pick but let’s not get crazy and assign huge value to a guy that’s struggling to fill a role he’s not ready for.

Cowen is quite promising. Saros in net and Toronto wins a ton so pick drops info late 20s. Weak draft. So so asset.

Including Samsonov doesn’t count as an addition to Nashville. That’s a negative value contract.

Saros is an elite NHL goalie. Makes Toronto scary this season.
