TSN: Preds listening to offers on Saros.

From a Devils POI, i would be willing to give up Mercer for Saros if they want a young forward as opposed to picks.
Nashville will need to take Vanecek as part of the deal.

I think this is a pretty reasonable framework for a deal, if the Preds are really going to make that move. Gives them as good a young player as you're probably going to get for a goaltender, and instant plug 'n play value for the Preds that seem to be in a bit of a retool where instant impact probably has appeal.

Plus gives them a guy in Vanacek who can at least fill some games for them in the meantime, while they wait for Askarov to arrive. Not sure if that's really enough, or how much more has to get tacked on there in terms of futures to make it work.

If it's a hardball, "Nemec or no deal" situation though...i just don't see how the Devils can even entertain it. He's too good. You don't give up potential top pairing RHD for 1.5 years of a ~30 year old goaltender.

Just look at how well that trade worked out for the Blues.

Yeah, bad example to use unless the moral is don’t pay that much lol.

I don't think the moral is necessary about the "price", especially considering that was purely a rental thing. I think the real moral of the story is...to be wary of in-season goaltender trades. It's such a demanding position mentally...you never really know how the transplant is going to go. It can have a real adjustment period, more so than other positions even.

If the Oilers had the assets and cap space, this would be a great target.

Unfortunately, enter Jack Campbell and his ridiculous contract.

The same assets we need to land Saros are the same assets we would have to attach to Campbell to get rid of his contract.
Not even being a dick but the oilers have really bare set of cuboards and any 1sts are likely in the late teens early 20's.
The devils and sabres have the pieces but their GM's seem really conservative.

Yeah that would probably be the best offer that any Devils fan could stomach. Would kinda be funny to have the preds get Mercer when the Sharks couldn't get him in the Meier trade.

Different times though and the Devils are more desperate as they lost one season to goaltending two years ago and they don't want to experience it again.
Young forwards aren’t all that rare. Youngish proven goaltenders on the block are.

This post essentially says that you can't tell.
He's not wrong tho.
For a team with very little success and have only traded a 1st at most once since 2013 ( moved down last year?) It's crazy how barren things are and it's not like they are with the big club contributing.

Hamilton, Palat, Meier....

Yeah....Chicken shit.
Two of those were ufa signings. I'm talking about moving young pieces for a goalie, sorry if that wasn't clear.

Truth is the truth. For a franchise that hung onto their 1st we sure didn’t do much with them. I think Holloway will be OK, 3W with low end 2W potential… if he can stay healthy. Broberg could be a steady 2 LHD but he seems to lack confidence and again his health has stunted his development. Currently though, those players are likely more valued internally than by other GMs.

It is what it is.

lol I understand that Skinner has been having a nice run recently but Saros >>>>>>>>Skinner

I know Canuck posters can’t help themselves sometimes, but the multiple >>>>>>> were unnecessary. Skinner is a very good young goalie but currently does not have the experience that Saros has. He also plays (has played) behind an average defensive team his entire career. Skinner will be a top 10 goalie in the league.

Over the past calendar year, Skinner ranks 9th (filtered to included only goalies > 40 starts) in Sv% with .909, Saros is 8th at .910. Skinner is ahead of Vasilievskiy, Oettinger, Shesterkin, Bobrovsky, Georgiev….

Benchmark..

Ryan Miller was traded as a rental . He was around 34 when traded at 2014 deadline…

Miller+Ott for Halak+Stewart+ 2015 1st+ 2016 3rd ( with conditions)+ Carrier ( 2013 2nd round pick)

he was traded for one playoff, not 2.

the 3rd would have been a 1st if he was resigned/ won cup.

the price is likely 2 1sts+2 2nds or equivalent.

Was the trade a success or a failure?

Odd to include Georgiev in that list of names. Its not as if people are claiming hes great. You must have some Avalanche fixation.

… or they were the next 5 names behind Skinner on the list?
Whats your reason for being butt hurt by who I included? Why the “Avalanche fixation” comment anyway? Just because I include an Avalanche goalie on a list. Weird comment.

Wooo… you sure got me! There’s another sign of true intelligence... after you’be been made a fool of you lash out with another random attack.

You sure seem to have a fixation on me for some unknown reason.

You have some imagination. These triumphs that you claim are quite a construct.

Your use of sarcasm is a crutch more than anything else.

On the contrary. People on the internet going to sarcasm when their feathers are ruffled are a dime a dozen. Very unnoteworthy.

Saros + Glass for Mercer + Vanecek?

Glass can play bottom-six C and fill a warm body need that Mercer leaves behind.

Yeah the best I would offer as a devils fan is either

1. Casey + picks / lesser prospect (Stillman etc) / ahl talent (Footes, Clarke..) + Vanecek
or
2. Hämeenaho + Gritsyuk + picks / lesser prospects / ahl talent + Vanecek

And I think many teams could match that. Nashville doesn't want older veterans and I wouldn't want to give up our young roster players as that would be one step forward and another one backwards.

At most maybe Holtz, but only because Ruff hates him and refuses to give him icetime. He's pacing to 20 goals in bottom6 (4th line atm) minutes, surely he'd be a 30+ goal scorer with 1st line + 1st pp minutes. I'd hate to lose Mercer as I feel like he is the type of player (two way grinder with skill) that cup contenders are build from. And absolute no for Nemec and Hughes.

I love Saros, especially as a Finn, but like always goalies are unpredictable and you never know how will they adjust to a new system and environment. Will he extend or just bounce after the contract is up.
