I was a little afraid to click this thread open as I was expecting a Finnish hype train on overdrive. Yes, the team is better than ever on paper, but I still don't think it quite matches Canada and USA. For once it's close though, which is refreshing. Anyway, tone it down a bit..

It's funny to see Finnish fans acting that way. Canadian fans get flack for making massive boasts, and rightfully so in many cases, but they certainly wouldn't make such a fuss over a roster like Finland will have this year. It's a good roster, nothing overwhelming by any stretch though. Finland is in the group of favourites.

One guy makes an arrogant statement and you are labelling all Finnish HFboards posters as if they were claiming that it will be a cake walk.

No sir, lots of Finns predicting Finland to get a bronze. lol

 What a hell you talking about

did you read the thread title? It's a prediction thread, he posted a prediction. You don't need to make a fuss over every poster that predicts a negative result for the Fins. If he went into th Finland roster thread to talk smack it would be a different story but any prediction is fair game here

Ye, wouldn't be surprised if the Finns chocked in the qf at home. I've seen crazier things happen.

I find it kinda funny that some people are being unnerved by the Finns acting... so un-Finn-like. I mean, normally we're very reserved about our chances, perhaps even like to underplay them a little, if only to retain that magical "underdog" status.

And, yet... in the end we end up beating all the expectations anyway.

So, I can see why many are so eager to put us down. If we usually succeed even when we're humble... you just know it's time to run for the hills when the Finns actually get cocky. :naughty:

"Finnish fans" means more than one Finnish fan, not all Finnish fans. I enjoy fans pumping the tires of their own teams, it makes things more interesting. The tournament is also more interesting if Finland brings a team with offensive talent, so hopefully that turns out to be the case.

Thanks there Slater. However, based on the context, you implied something different than the aforementioned.

Or maybe I know nothing about Jack :sarcasm:

Can vs Fin would be a great final, but personally, I hope its Swe vs Fin in the gold medal game, if these young lions can make it that far!

In my mind the tournament right now has a 4 way tie for who the favourite is.

The Fins have a great team, but so does Sweden, USA, and Canada. Russia isn't that far behind. The Fins aren't usually in the conversation for favorites so their fans being excited is understandable, but it's still a very even 4 way race right now.

The groups are interesting though, 3 in 1 group, Finland in the other, Finland is going to need to finish 1st in their group, otherwise they're probably gonna end up with a potential coin flip QF against 1 of Sweden, USA, and Canada.

Just checked out the Swiss roster and it looks pretty solid. The Czechs take a big hit if no Pastrnak and Vrana, otherwise they would look pretty stacked, too.

It's good to see some good depth in this tournament. It was definitely evident last year and we could be in for more of the same.

yeah looking at the rosters the Swiss and Fins possibly have their best roster ever(the Fins will be better again next year if they don't miss guys to the NHL). The Czechs potentially could have had that if they had Pastrnak, and Vrana.

Probably the closest tournament ever, at the top anyway, Denmark(assuming no Ehlers) and Belarus are a step behind and will likely play to avoid relegation. Don't see them keeping much of any game close in the group stage but I hope they do, always love upsets.

Dont know enough about all teams to really make a qualified guess.. however I really do like the Swedish team this year, very surprised so many have them ranked as low as they have. Must mean every team has a great squad this year

Yeah, not sure why almost everyone has Finland over Sweden at this point. No team will have more returning players than Sweden this year and the deep Swedish 96 group absolutely destroyed Finland, 10-0, the last time all players were available.

I don't think that matters anymore, it happened and won't happen again. Both teams are older, better and smarter. But I agree that Swedish team is better and they are the biggest favourite in my opinion.

Everyone is hyping up Finland so I'm picking them to disappoint. They finish 3rd in the group and lose in the Quarters to Sweden/USA.

1. Canada
2. Sweden
3. Russia

Is it a personal problem for you that some hfboarders trust and believe in Finland's chances to succeed, in world juniors where Finland is home team and tournament host.
Unfortunately winning for U20 WJC gold medal, is not Canada's proprietary exclusive right as you think

Cut it out. It's a prediction thread. If we Finns have the right to be confident in our predictions, others have a full right to predict our guys choke.

Besides, no matter what people say in this thread, it won't make an iota of difference on how things go in the rink.

again, this is a prediction thread, people can predict whatever they want to, not everyone is going to pick Finland to succeed, let it go.

Such an inferiority complex.

It's just my prediction. I wanted to make 1 bold prediction and Finland disappointing is mine. I don't want them to fail because the tournament is in Finland but it's a bold prediction because most in this thread think Finland is going to get atleast a medal. Nothing against Finland, I like how they play.
