Finland
Sure, Canada's proven they can play on big ice but this time it's different. They'll go from playing on hybrid ice for their preliminary games to playing on bigger ice in a do-or-die game. There won't be any room for error or any time to get used to it. It's win or done. Not saying they can't do it, but it could be a factor.

That's true rink and ice are smaller in Helsinki Ice Hall

In Hartwall Arena where Finland plays all their games rink and ice are bigger.
But i don't think Canada has serious troubles in there.

Of course it can cause some minor problems when there's more space near the boards.
But Canadian players are very strong their physicality so that's not an issue necessarily.

Of course anything could happen when everything depends that how you'll play in do or die games.
I checked your ( Canada's) Final roster in WJC's that team what Canada has it looks very strong in paper.

And there's a lot serious scoring threat and also defence looks solid.
But i'm not sure Canadian goalies.

If Blackwood gets his god-mood on he can be one of the best goalies in U20's this year.
But there's that suspension what he got in OHL it keeps him away for 2 Canada's preliminary round games in Helsinki.

And if he don't integrate bigger ice and rink in do or die game it can be huge challenge for Canada.
But we'll see that later.

I'm not seen Canada's exhibition games but that what i read in Jatkoaika.com ( Finnish hockey board).
There some Finnish fans said Canada wasn't impressive at all against Czechs they win only 1-0.
But they dominated for against Belarus and beat them 7-1.

I don't believe that Canada has some huge troubles in bigger ice and rink.
But when ice and rink are bigger there's more space to keep puck longer than north american rink.

And game probably will be a bit slower than north american ice.
That slower game can frustrate Canadians if they wont get puck for themselves.

And frustration can cause stupid penalties for Canadians.
That's why they must stay out of penalty box in do or die game cause stupid penalties in that game will cost a lot.

However see you in World Juniors.
Welcome to Helsinki

A few posters have predicted Canada to finish 3rd. The Canadian teams I've been watching for the past 20 years don't even show up to play in the bronze medal game after being upset in the semi-final. Bronze beats the heck out of 4th!

Prediction: Canada is unable to stop the two best players in the tournament in Matthews and nylander. They get the bronze. Their d is weak and the suspension to blackwood leads to their boxing day loss to the USA. That gives them a tougher road... one that they cannot overcome.

I think the Czechs could really surprise and I think Zacha will have a great tournament. You could beat Finland and play interesting hockey with Russia, that's my opinion/prediction. Hopefully Zacha shows up, he's a big talent for sure.

1. Finland
2. USA
3. Russia

Sebastian Aho - Auston Matthews - Patrik Laine
Zach Werenski - Ivan Provorov
Brandon Halverson

For me the clearcut winner is Finland. All the stars and signs are aligned for domination with Laine and Puljujärvi at theyre draft year WJC in home ice. Sauce it up with Rantanen, Kapanen, Aho, Hintz, Nättinen and co and you got dynamite core. Head coach is non other than the lion king Jukka Jalonen, to make it overkill even mascot of the tournament is Teemu Selänne. Not a chance they will loose this.

After looking all the posts, this was by far the best prediction. Really close.

Russia Gold
Sweden Silver
Finland Bronze

Sweden wins their group, Russia does not.

I wasn't that far off, now when I think back at it. Sweden lost to Finland by one goal and were missing William Nylander. They didn't care enough to show up for the bronze medal game. They did win their group. However, so did Russia. But my line of thinking was that if Russia doesn't win their group, they will win the whole thing. Would be very typically Russian. Came close to playing out as I thought.

Are we predicting 2017 World Juniors or rehashing 2016?

I was way off 2016.

2017

USA
Finland
Czech Rep.

Canada finishes 5th. maybe 6th. A disastrous home tournament and heads roll at HC.

but I hope I'm wrong. as wrong as 2016. Looking forward to the start up of the junior season and NHL.

Can't predict a lot until we know how the NHL impacts the tournament. Looks like Canada, USA and Finland at least will be affected by players missing with NHL duty.
