Woll was bad but he needs to go in again next game to see what we have here. See how he responds. Otherwise we can add a goalie and 5 D to the needed list
I would be shocked if Samsonov doesn't start against Calgary. Woll seems like a much better option against Vancouver on Saturday.

On the plus side, majority of the signings we did in July are only 1 year deals.

But who are we kidding ourselves trying to say we are cup contenders with our D. It’s both coaching and personal. Teams that are serious about winning don’t look or play like how Toronto does..

Things are getting ugly here.
Honestly, outside of some in the fanbase, who said this was a Cup contending team?

It means NOTHING if HIS team continues to LOSE !!! Him and his 3 other RICH buddies can't win ALL BY THEMSELVES. They take, and continue to take, too big a bite out of our salary cap.

Our team lacks the necessary skilled support players, especially on D. This is due to NOT ENOUGH cap space.
It was due to 5 years of mismanagement.

Virtually every media outlet had the Leafs as Cup contenders. They still do. The team is obviously struggling right now, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it is a very good team when they play to their potential.

As Harry Neale used to say - you have Group A, the 1/3 of the team liking the music; Group B, the 1/3 hating it; and Group C, the other 50% that you try to keep away from Group B or else the dj loses the room. Or was it coaching?

1/3 + 1/3 + 1/2 = 5/3

Either Harry or you need some math tutoring ;)

I’ve heard many in the media say the Leafs want to win and they are trying to win, but almost daily I hear how poor their D is and many ask the same rhetorical question, can they win 4 rounds with the current D?

Let's face it too - if woll doesn't let in 2 stinkers under the pad, it's a very different game.

While we have some guys like Klinger who are worse than dead weight, we lost due to goaltending. Had Sammy given up those goals we'd be roasting him and he'd be shitting on himself in the media again.

Woll has earned the benefit of the doubt on a few stinkers in my book.

But I agree, it’s goaltending that’s been letting this team down so far this season.

All that said, fire Keefe for the Lilly shit

Why do you omit Tavares?

And if Willy gets $10M on his next contract he'll still be the only one of the four outperforming his contract.
I think that once Nylander signs a $10M contract, he'll start to coast and take many games off.

The goal is to win the cup. Every team but one team in the playoffs will lose, but it's still infinitely better to have a chance than not have one at all.
There is zero good that comes from missing the playoffs. Only bad, and possibly catastrophic bad.
So youre a make the playoffs at all costs because anything can happen rather than taking a step back one year to reassess and gain assets to have a better chance going forward, got it.

Agree to disagree.

It is the curse of the Leafs. Full house no matter how bad. Always buying the fairy tales. I have watched hockey for decades and many bad Leaf teams. This team has zero chance of winning a cup. The whole model was a video game fantasy by a kid who never played hockey. Until the seats go empty there is no incentive to change or win. This team is done, the writing was on the wall last yrs playoffs. Mathews was wasted. You won't get another one for 20 years. Why would the NHL waste the next McDavid or Mathews in Canada?
I dont know why but I watched the Sharks/Flyers the other night. That building was maybe 20% full. Thats putting pressure on above, never happens here.

I’d rather miss the playoffs than continually choke in the first round, granted they choked in the second round last year, but if that’s progress I won’t be alive to witness another cup……..
Remember how for a number of years now, many people kept saying how once we win one round, get that monkey of our back, then we'll go on a roll and go deep? Instead, we finally win a round, get that monkey off our back and then lose in 5 against a team that we were heavily favored to beat.

And I know how you feel, not too long ago I started to have similar thoughts - the odds of me living to see us win the cup are probably less than 50% at this point, the way we're going I probably won't even see us make the finals.

Despite all of the moaning, this team will still easily make the playoffs. There are too many bad teams in the Eastern conference for that to not be the case.
A agree it's highly likely we'll still make the playoffs. Good to see you've come down to earth a bit, that's certainly a more realistic POV then assuming we'll be in 1st place in January. As far as how easy it's going to be, I would have said the same before we came back from our road trip but I have to admit, we're playing so badly that I'm starting to waver on how easy it's going to be but I guess we'll see.

If you've ever paid for a playoff ticket you'd realize how ridiculous that sounds.

Incompetence <> Indifference

Is this site acting up for anyone else? Page is dancing all over the place and loading erratically…….

You know what the funny thing is - because all these Dubas cult members claimed they were unbiased, they have to apply the same standard to the new GM which they are clearly not doing

Make no mistake about it if Dubas was still in charge and we had these results (which we've had similar starts to years in years prior) they'd be screaming from the rooftops that it's too early to make assessments and sample size blah blah blah.

Also the key injuries on D - any of them mentioning that? Cause injuries was one of their favorite excuse when Dubie was in charge.

Really ?

The Leafs are currently holding the 2nd WC spot only by total points. NYI and WSH are on the outside looking in, but both have a higher points % and with games in hand. While I agree the Leafs should make the playoffs, if all things remain equal (which they wont, for better or worse) by the 82 game mark, then they miss.

That is because many posters simply don't watch the sport they watch the scores and react based on that.

Keefe had us a top 5 defensive team last year and a top 7 team the year before but now posters say he can't coach a defensive system.

This is on Tre for giving Keefe shit players. Who is winning with this D core? Who is winning with Sammy playing how he is?
But half the D is injured.

You dubas fanboys always screamed this excuse when you had the chance.
