The internal competition this year is the best I've ever seen it. That's one thing I will give Dubas credit for.

Dubas does not get credit for players wanting to play for the Maple Leafs, which is what actually created the competition you are talking about. That is because of Matthews, Marner, and the market they play in.

No, but only because this is a team that refused to healthy scratch Thornton at all last season. It would be the wrong move to have this guy in the lineup over Engvall and a number of other guys, and based on the guys he was playing with, it looks like he is not going to gifted a spot this year, but I am smart enough to know that this team has deviated away from making smarter, winning moves when it comes to toughness and leadership since that Columbus loss.
