Time for a coaching change. But prices for food lowered 30%. Does that mean the extension is already signed?

This game like many others is not on the D but in the overrated forwards.

I didn't watch all of this game, so I may have missed some things.

Things that impressed me:

the Morrissey-Pionk pairing. They sure played pretty smart together.

Top line, they had their chances.

The pace. Jets had very good pace to their game.

Jansen Harkins. He's going to score soon.

Things that concerned me:

Penalty kill, again there is something positionally wrong with our PK, to give up such quality chances. Meanwhile on the PP you have 4 guys standing still while Wheeler is trying to move the puck. Who designed that? They did have some good looks, but looking good isn't a result.. Unless you are Maurice Richard.

The close range chances the Jets give up. I think teams are identifying our defensive weakness being in front of the net. Boston on the other hand did not give up too many second chances, by outnumbering the Jets on the puck, in front of the net.

Niku's defensive positioning. He's not physical, and he does get caught on the wrong side of the puck a lot in the defensive zone. It's an obstacle to being a top 4 defenseman.
I'm still hoping Beaulieu draws in for Bitetto. We were doing well when we had BooBoo-Sbisa together. If we can get some solid minutes out of Morrissey-Pionk, it's just that 2nd pairing that needs to be consistent.

The penalties tonight. Didn't like the way it was reffed, with chinzy penalties. That call on Niku was awful. Too bad the fans didn't make themselves heard in a significant way. The turning point though are the fights. Gave up a PP that become a 3-5, because Pionk stuck up for Scheif. Sbisa's 10 minute misconduct took him out of the PK, that lead to the GWG. We are short on defenseman as is, can't be a hero, when the team needs you.

But then I say hey Chevy teams wouldn't take runs at you if you had somebody who rang a few bells themselves.
I mean Little, Lowry, Perreault have all got it so far. Scheif is a constant target.

Down on the Moose Lipon is playing well. Why not give him a call? You're at home. Somebody takes a run at your guy, take a number, and send out your 4th liner to settle the score, instead of being penalized for reacting instantly.

I'm just not optimistic about this team. The battle level is probably as good as the team that was in a playoff position a month ago. But the talent level continually goes down, with each injury.

Divisional games next, this could be the make or break of the season.

Good point -
He drifted in with the play rather than hanging back - he's much harder to cover if he's moving.
He's not scoring like he did the first couple of years because he's predictable - he's also smart enough to do something about it - like he did tonight on his goal.
I did really like his game tonight though - he was much more engaged and it makes a huge difference.

No one on that 1st unit really moves much and hasn't for a long time. They really should be working in switches and some cross crease set plays from Connor to Laine sneaking in back door. There are so many other things the PP unit could be doing but it seems everything needs to run through Wheeler. Its quite frankly putting a constraint on the PP.

Yeh it’s been like this for over a year. I think it may be the players doing too much of what they want to do and the coach perhaps not making them change their ways. Idk just spitballing honestly.

We lost the special teams battle-it is absolutely mind-boggling how the Jets refuse to change the lack of movement, creativity and adjustments on the PP.

also it is incredible that we are still utilising the extinct passive short handed system.

Sure, we are defestated on defence, but the coaching of special teams has been killing us for over a year now...

... "movement, creativity and adjustments" ... that is a perfect description of the Bruins PP. It was fun to watch.

The Jets PP... stagnant, predictable and mismanaged talent. Frustrating to watch.

Cost us the game and wasted a good effort by the Jets. Thats on the coaches.

The boys did play hard.

Good game, boys played well. 2-1 goal was a bad luck one, i have never seen that kind of situation. Real bummer.

I did like the fast pace and aggressiveness what jets offered. Laine played damn good game, i was laughing when he tackled chara.

If they play this well rest of the season, they are in playoffs.

That was one hell of a game, everybody played hard, even the 4th line looked like they could score some day.

Maurice is just delusionaly clinging on to that 1pp hoping for it to start working. Same thing as last year with everyone just hoping to hit the switch when playoffs start. 1pp 8+ min of ice time with no results while 2pp less than 2 min. What the hell is that?

That was much better 5v5 play. Much better.

Nice game from Laine. They will write on his soon-to-be erected tombstone: "You hit like a girl, Chara"

Like many have mentioned, the PP is such weak sauce that they need to overhaul it completely. Pionk taking low-percentage shots from the point all day is exactly the opposite of what they should be doing. They should avoid that play like the plague, but it was the same with Buff so it's clearly by design. The system was good for a while in the beginning but everyone and their mamas know what they are trying to do now.

And it boggles the mind how we don't use Ehlers at all. I'm sure you all know him, he is the fast guy who created our only goal in this game with his zone-entry and quick pass to the net. You can spot him at times on the ice if you don't blink. He would be a major asset on the PP and could be an asset on the PK (Connor PK'ing is insane).

Rask is a good goalie.

Vegas and Blue's won. We can not afford to keep losing like this. PP clicks we win this game. Rask was not unbeatable.

Well that was a really fun game to watch, don't even mind watching them lose if they play like that. PP needs fixed, it's been so obvious for so long it's getting painful. Hint Maurice, there's other ways to "fix" a PP than move Laine around or into a different unit :D

Swap Connor and Wheeler, that might make both players more effective on the PP. Laine absolutely needs to be in his office and if you have Connor or Ehlers in Wheeler's place, then the shot from that side needs to be respected way more, I'm sure everyone knows Wheeler has a muffin, it's a nobrainer to give that shot away when Scheifele or Laine are the other options. Connor is completely under-utilized behind the net and I'm not convinced about his ability or willingness to read play and pass from there - or it's another coaching thing... but you'd think if Wheeler was behind the net, then he'd have the puck on his stick regularly and would look for plays to make, instead of just dishing it back to the wall. Also D to Laine for one-timer is a viable option, sure, it's not a semi-guaranteed goal as the seam pass used to be, but if the D-man puts some mustard on the pass, it still forces some lateral movement from the goalie. But these grandma passes from Pionk are useless, most times they are so slow Laine won't even bother shooting. I know Pionk can pass, so not sure what's up with that. I'm 100% sure it's not Laine wanting them like that, it's got to be either coaching or Pionk doing passes he could one-time himself.

Anyway the PP is looking like another case of what "swap Connor with Ehlers" used to be...

Take Wheeler right off PP1 and put Ehlers on it , we need more movement on the PP . Loved the way we played and if we continue that we will be successful . Even though our PP sucked we did hit 3 posts and a defenseman's stick on a open net for Scheifele . Take any teams QB on the point and #1 defenseman away for the entire season and lets see how their PP does , i really like Pionk but he is NO Buff and that is really hurting us right now . Funny how so many people thought Buff at the point was terrible for Laine because Buff didn't pass to him enough . Anyway the Jets should hold their heads high after that game , they played great . :thumbu:
