Bright side is we were easily the better team tonight and with a little luck and some minor adjustments we probably win that game without much issue.

I think that's what has so many frustrated with this team this year, they have had some real stinkers but games like tonight are a easier win with a few different in game outcomes

Somewhere nice
First two years he played 99 games. 21 goals on 81 shots.

last 98 games he’s played, he has scored 8 goals on 93 shots.

Quite the change

Are they the same quality shots or not anymore?

Just trying to see what's wrong with pp as a whole and everything start with Laine as he is and should be the primary weapon.

Overall
If Laine is getting 93 shots in 100 games
And the next 1 is 76 shots in 100 games.

The team is not getting enough shots on their pp. Or they are not getting the quality shots?
Schiefele Connor and Laine are all goal scorers. Shouldnt be this bad........

Is thr Buff factor that significant.
I think its more on the set up player.
Which is the right half wall.
Msot of the time if not always thats where the powerplay generally starts.

Laine needs to be a little more active out there because he's as easy as hell to cover it he sits there and waits for it.

At the same time the rest of the PP also needs to be more proactive in taking advantage when players move to cover Laine before any pass is made to him. You could see the Bruins player at the top of the diamond drifting towards Laine every time Wheeler moved the puck back to the point.
Wheeler's passes back to the point may be just as much to blame as the passes that the man on the point is making to Laine, whether it's Morrissey or Pionk since they both seem to have the same issue.

Did anyone notice the Bruins PP - which isn't even that good - they are always on the move and it's real hard to cover the lanes when they are constantly changing.
Our PP is frustrating to say the least - it needs a reboot and it starts with how the players are participating and not so much the system (IMO)

I agree. Laine needs to be clever like he was when he scored the goal tonight. He needs to watch/speak with Alex Ovechkin this offseason and see if Alex will share some tips since they both have such lethal shots.

We need to kove Wheeler off the half wall, he has become stagnant and predictable, along with fighting the puck.

Move Connor to Wheelers spot, get Wheeler in front of the net. Connor got many of his goals with Michigan working the right half wall, on the PP.

He has a great one timer from that spot and he handles the puck smoother than Wheeler and can shift defences better with his quickness.

Start there

Post-game audio:

Players: Blake Wheeler, Andrew Copp, Laurent Brossoit and Patrik Laine.

Coach Maurice: His team's effort in that game. What they can take from that game. On Bitetto and Copp getting entangled. The high level of animosity. Thoughts on the power play? Update on Perreault?

I'd say they deserved better on the flow of play but you can't go through two 5-on-3s and not score.

The PP:
"Centre, pass to halfback, pass to centre, centre holds it, holds it, holds it...."

Hurry get the puck to Wheeler. Now Hurry and go stand on your spot.

that’s pretty much it.
I noticed a couple times tonight where Laine could have created a lane for himself by just moving a few feet to one side or the other

You are watching the games so you know it's not the 'how many' passes that he is getting, it's the 'how' he is getting the passes.

Pionk has the puck. Keeper, giggling, keys in on Pionk waiting for his 82 mph muffin shot, or his pass over to Wheeler who he knows will jack off standing still for 10 seconds doing nothing before just passing back to Pionk, or his slow motion pass to Laine for the one timer. If the slowest pass in the history of power plays is going to Laine, the keeper knows he has an eternity to get over, get square and move forward to close down the angle. The shot is also much more likely to get tipped/blocked because the PK defender responsible for Laine knows the same thing the keeper knows.

Good point -
He drifted in with the play rather than hanging back - he's much harder to cover if he's moving.
He's not scoring like he did the first couple of years because he's predictable - he's also smart enough to do something about it - like he did tonight on his goal.
I did really like his game tonight though - he was much more engaged and it makes a huge difference.

Our PP is ez to cover. Connor is wasted on his role on PP1.

It's too bad he pretty much only touches the puck if he's retrieved it himself. May as well just find a Tanev clone to put down low and let Connor take on a shooting role on PP2 to spread the wealth of forward talent more.

I think he's producing a little bit better than previous seasons on the PP without checking the numbers though, he's doing a better job generating something from nothing.

Jets deserved a better fate tonight. They were the better team on the ice but can't score at all lately. Also happy that they stood up for each other out there.

Brossoit: Best game he's played in a long time.

Pionk and Morrissey despite a bit of passing rust at times did theor job well and won their matchup against the Bergeron line quite handily. Well over 60% C.F. and mid to high 50's XGF%. No idea why anyone would single Josh out negatively tonight outside of a few botched passes which I attribute to not playing in a week.

Niku and Kuli. Starting to see more snore confidence in Niku's game and more consistiency. Nice game for him.

Thebother dmen were meh.

Top line. Line was a force, drawing penalties, going after Chara. Should have had at least another goal tonight. I thought Scheifele was just ok. Connor was a bit better.

The second line was up and down. Ehlers with some great plays and some boneheaded ones. Wheeler was ok but wasn't QBing the pp that well tonight. Appelton made one nice play but struggled in his own end and looked out of place on a skilled line.

Copp and Roslovic worked hard and played well but need to capitalize on their chances.

Harkins had a nice game and looked good when elevated to the third line once Perrault went down. Needs to manage the puck better in his own end at times.

Coaching: PP was largely a non factor, the team needs different looks when one doesn't work. The best teams like Pittsburgh have 3 or so PP variations that they can switch to at will. Pk was not great again. Coaching Needs to do much better as special teams were the difference tonight.

As already mentioned, I'd move him into the Wheelers spot on the wall -
He will get a lot more respect (space) in that spot over Wheeler -
Or, as you noted, move him to #2 - he'd probably be more effective there and it might give Mo a reason to actually play the second option more often.
