Its going to be an internal move- if it happens at all.

But Id like to see, assuming he is fired as well, the Mike Sullivan redemption tour.

Monty’s time most likely done. But this team is so messed up with genuine lack of scorers, D that cant defend, horrible PK and weak goaltending……I doubt any new coach is going to make a significant difference.

Just a mess.
If you are correct, and I think you might be. My suggestion might be before you address the coaching situation, and the roster, just maybe you should start with replacing the GM and then have the new GM, hire a new coach and start working on this roster.

Whoever they get he needs to be structured and strict. They lost the discipline from the Julien years. It may not be the prettiest of hockey but it’s effective. Monty was a good guy coach from the start and when he gets tough or angry it comes across as disingenuous to who he is. Whoever it is has to come in immediately establish a strict structure and order.

Last night that third period goal when both bruins used one hand on their sticks and both times it was easily lifted would even have peewee coaches shaking their heads. That’s the back to basics this team needs desperately right now

The first trade the Bruins, should make and I am not always on board with his tactics, Monty for Torterella.

I simply think replacing the coach with someone from with in will not change the culture of the room.
If it is time to make a change ? Make a real change
I'm not disagreeing with you, just that I can't think of a recent example of an outside hire coming in mid season to replace a fired coach.

Regardless, Sweeney shouldn't get another coaching hire if this team misses the playoffs, especially if he fires Monty.

When's the last time a team fired their coach during the season, and then brought in an outsider instead of promoting an assistant to interim? I genuinely can't think of one.

I like Jay Leach, but it definitely seems like it's just be more of the same. We all know it's be Sacco anyways, which is awful.

Curious why? Honest question.

I agree that it's going to be Sacco and not much is going to change. Unfortunately.

I believe the Oilers did just last year. Also the Canucks the year before.

Is he completely checked out? He must know by now his group isn't good enough to be able to win enough to save his job before Xmas. Just a matter of time.
This is more of a reply to your post in the GDT from lat night where you said ...

"Not to pile it on but if we are being honest, when has two big long-term UFA signings gone so south so quickly? Not just the Bruns, I mean league-wide?

If Zadorov and Lindholm had zero trade protection, does any NHL GM take on either of those contracts? Would any sane GM believe either player is still in the NHL 5-6-7 years from now? What GM takes on vitrually guaranteed buy-outs, at least they way this is already trending?

What does Jacobs think about the $84 million Sweeney and Neely committed to these two players?"

I understand what you are saying.

Now if it were only the two big FA signings that were playing below expectations then that would be a concern.

However, when multiple players, overall team structure, and team play have fallen so far below what was expected not only of fans, but by the players and management, and the coach says he doesn't have any answers; I think they really have no choice than to make a change behind the bench.

Before we go blaming all the players - bring in a new voice, a new system and game structure to see if things improve.

If game structure and different aspects of team play improve, such as defensive zone coverage, pk & pp, offensive zone setup , but they still struggle to score goals then Sweeny can attempt to make a trade or two to address that issue.

If Sweeny fails to make moves of significance that improve the roster, then he is fair game to be replaced as well. Of course roster improvements are 'usually' more productive during the off season, so judgment on Sweeney may be put off ntil next season.

It may or may not be fair to Montgomery, but the way things currently are, they need to start there with a change. Even if just an internal interm replacement.

I doubt Bergeron wants to be away from his family a ton in order to be a coach.

I also don't think the solution is to hire someone who has never coached at any level.

He also said when he announced his retirement that he wasn't interested in coaching.
