Marchenko?

Daniil But is much faster in a straight line, more like Nichushkin, and he has some soft hands for powerplay assists. I guess he's a bit like Blake Wheeler.

Marchenko is remarkably agile in crowded spaces and has an elite shot, those are his most distinguishing characteristics and I don't see that in But. But looks ungainly in traffic.

I think you misunderstood my comment. By no means was I calling Smith a poor skater. He will require an adjustment of his style to continue playing the way he does at the NHL level.

I think Smith's off puck play will be a bigger problem. He is uninterested in the game until the puck is on his stick.

I think he'll score plenty but maybe be a guy who just gets passed around among bad teams.

Here is my first round. With just a brief synopsis of each player.

1 Bedard, Connor; Center

I appreciate the work you put in.

One thing I'll quibble with - you're questioning whether Leo Carlsson will end up as a center and not questioning that for Will Smith. I think that's backwards.

I know it sounds weird for a guy who is currently not at center but Leo Carlsson has more natural center attributes than anyone in this draft, including Bedard and Fantilli.

While draws aside, Smith isn't doing traditional center things. I'm not saying he's not playing center well, I'm saying he isn't really playing center as it would be defined in a pro system. The Program might be doing development right but it's harder to evaluate for positional ability.

The Program might be doing it right but it's harder to evaluate.
I actually thought about including that afterwards for Will Smith in the Questions category. However, I included it in Carlsson’s because I don’t think I’ve seen him play center. Does he have the tools to play center? I think so for sure. I have to question it if I haven’t personally seen it though. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m not sure if I remember him playing center at the U20s either. I believe he played on Bystedt’s wing if I’m remembering correctly.

Will Smith is playing with Leonard and Perreault who have also played center and would probably be great in that position at this level but Smith has the job. Smith is going to play center for BU for sure and ultimately I think will be a center in the NHL.

Leo was Bystedt's winger at the U20s and has only been a winger in the SHL. But to me this is obviously just how the Swedes are breaking him in. They did the same with Elias Pettersson.

The program put Smith in between Perreault and Leonard but the program doesn't care about traditional positional roles. I'm not sure what it meant to them.

Here is my first round. With just a brief synopsis of each player.

1 Bedard, Connor; Center
Strengths: Game Changing Skill; Unbelievable Shooting Ability; Continues to Improve Despite Dominance
Weakness/Questions: Is Bedard a Center at the NHL level due his lack of size and truly elite skating ability? He Will Need to Limit Turnovers
2 Fantilli, Adam; Center
Strengths: Rare Combination of Size and Phenomenal Skating Ability; Elite Puck Possession; Great Athleticism; Elite Transition Game
Weakness/Questions: Can Fantilli improve overall playing ability? Fantilli possess elite tools, however there are questions regarding his ability to generate chances in the offensive zone. While Fantilli has great positioning in the offensive zone, you don’t often see much creativity from him in the offensive zone.
3 Michkov, Matvei; Winger
Strengths: Elite Offensive Tools (Shot, Hands, Playmaking Ability); Creativity in the Offensive zone; Eye-Popping Production at Every Level; Extremely Dangerous With the Puck in the Offensive Zone
Weakness/Questions: Diminutive Frame; Average Skating; Can be Uninvolved Defensively; High Risk/High Reward Player
4 Carlsson, Leo; Winger/Center
Strengths: NHL Frame; Mature Style of Play; Elite Playmaking Ability; Elite Hands; Very Few Weak Areas in Game

Strengths: One of the Best Shooters in the Draft; Physicality; Great Hands; One-on-One ability; Strength and Athleticism; Powerful Stride; Goes to the Dirty Areas;

10 Heidt, Riley; Center
Strengths: Elite Speed; Great in Transition; Solid Playmaking Ability; Great Shooting Ability; Could be a Center at the NHL level with his combination of skating and playmaking ability; Good Two-Way Center
Weakness/Questions: Needs to improve decision making at times; Doesn’t Necessarily have Elite Offensive Tools; Not Sure How Much Offensive Game will Translate to NHL
11 Sale, Eduard; Winger
Strengths: Playmaking Ability; Great Decision Making with the Puck; Dynamic Offensive Skill with Great Hands; Excellent Skating; Underrated and Perhaps Underutilized Shot
Weakness/Questions: Inconsistent; Can be a Bit of a Parameter Player; Needs to Fill Out His Frame; If He’s Not a Top 6 Forward, He Probably Doesn’t Play in the NHL
12 Yager, Brayden; Center
Strengths: One of the Best Shots in the Draft; Powerful Straight-Line Speed; Good Playmaking Ability (that continues to improve); Could Project as a Center; Lot of Potential
Weakness/Questions: Very Inconsistent Offensively; Must Improve Lateral Movement; Decision Making is Lacking at Times; Uninvolved Defensively; Very Raw Player at This Point; Could be High Risk in the Top 15
13 Dvorsky, Dailbor; Center/Winger
Strengths: Projects as a Center; Plays with an Edge; NHL Frame; Great Two-Way Ability; Great Shot; Good Playmaking Ability

Thank you for the write-up, I'm too lazy to do that these days.

I find it interesting how we can have very similar reads on players' skillsets, but our conclusions on their potential can vary so much.

Rounds 3 - 5 I found so tight to slot guys into spots. So much talent throughout the whole draft really exposes the depth of this field. Just my personal take on the draft- love it or hate it
There is 36 picks in the second round...??

I like Sawchyn, a lot, but the recent love hes been getting is a bit over the top, all starting, I think from EP that keeps talking about him.

Realistically, he is not a top 15 prospect.
I'm one of the folks who's really high on him, and I don't even follow EP (I assume this is a YouTube channel?)

Honestly I find it so hard to judge kids coming from high school hockey - I also don't watch or follow it much so I can't really slide them into a spot. I do like the things i've heard on Hunter Anderson and Shaugabay for sure - Shagabay would defintely crack my top 40-45 from what I am hearing. Crazy numbers

There is 36 picks in the second round...??
Sorry I see my numbers were off - you get the point lol
