My guess is because he just got there after being held back a bit in Edmonton and is one arb away from a deal that will walk him to ufa.

The skater probably wants opportunity that perhaps wasn’t anvailable when you’re developing behind McDavid, draisaitl, and rnh, and will use his contract status to get it. Buffalo certainly could give it, but…

Given the state of the rental market, a 25 year old center who wants a top 6 role would take home the top prize of the deadline, the Sabres would be able to get so many teams interested they’d probably get one outlandish offer.
Sabres don’t want picks and prospects

See everyone saying Dobson.

How about Dobson to Detroit for Sandin Pellikka and Lombardi. (Or take your pick from 2-3 same talent level)

That’s realistic too, as the Isles look like they’re about to jump into a real rebuild.

I think it will be the Pettersson trade.
Lol yes this would be surprising, given how management first drafted another guy with literally the same name and then traded Miller for another guy with the same last name to show whose side their loyalties were on.

So it's Pettersson, Pettersson and (you guessed it!) Pettersson for 3 pieces back in a blockbuster? (Lol to New Jersey for Hughes and Hughes??)

Kelly McCrimmon has been clearing the deck for something big, but his trades are often quite unusual, e.g., getting Eichel during the neck surgery controversy or taking Hertl coming off an injury. A big McCrimmon deal will come out of left field and probably nobody will foresee it.

McCrimmon might try to bring Marchessault back for the playoffs. Marchy really didn't work out that well in Nashville, Vegas wanted to re-sign him but Nashville offered an overpay that McCrimmon could now bail them out of, and Marchy would fit back in like a glove.

IMHO, a problem this season is that so many East teams are still arguably in the WC hunt that there may be fewer sellers than usual, plus, with the cap going up so much, teams might feel more comfortable in their ability to re-sign their quality FAs.
Dobson

Zero chance Kings are trading Byfield.
Maybe for power
