At this point (for this season) I would rather have Ehrhoff and 2.6 million dollars,
than Voynov and 2.6 million less dollars. Voynov was not good since the
2013 playoffs and has an injured achilles heal now. He will actually be slower
this season.

Ehrhoff will be better than Voynov would have been this season...and the 2.6 million
saved can go towards getting Kopitar and Lucic resigned. Those dollars will prove to
be huge...and the Kings will have to fill the D hole next year.

Now Kopitar (who was just meh last night and had 0 shots) had better step
up and score more than 16 goals this year, if he wants more money.

I agree. I think people forget how bad Voynov had been playing. I've always been high on him ever since he was drafted, but I was starting to have second thoughts about him and his contract. Losing him may end up actually being good for the team.

He only played in 6 games last year. He was getting off to a rough start and then his season was over. And I think many forget that it was just going to be about his 3 full season. He played just over a half season in 11-12, the full shortened season in 12-13, and all of 13-14.
He was young and going to have growing pains at times.

It wasn't just those 6 games. He had been regressing defensively for some time. I thought he was especially bad during the Chicago series. I recall him making basic positional errors many many times, a few of which directly lead to Chicago goals.

Nothing against him, I've always liked him, but the way he was unraveling I wasn't comfortable with him taking up 4M+ worth of cap space for the forseable future.

I don't know, man... Young RHD with good offensive upside and above average D don't grow on trees.

People can pretend he won't be missed, but he will be, and you better believe Dean agrees. Teams don't simply lose their young #2 for free and not feel the reverberations for years to come.

If he gets back on track, then yeah it's a big loss. However, if he continued to regress, then getting rid of his contract could turn out to be a good thing. Anytime you sign a young player to an LTC it's a risk.

IMO the kings are younger, faster, hungrier and got rid of the guys who were busier off the ice than on. I'm surprised fans are concerned. Every team has holes or questions, the key for me always has been Lombardi knows what Sutter needs to be successful and gives him the talent. Last year the talent wasn't there with all the regression from so many players. You lose Voynov and replace him with Ehrhoff, that's the salary cap era of hockey. Is he as good as Voynov? He used to be better and if he stays healthy I think people will quickly forget about Voynov and start talking about giving Ehrhoff an extension.

This, Lets not pretend we're happy he's gone. He is a very good Dman.

Fingers crossed, lets hope he can stay healthy.

I'm not comfortable at all with Ehrhoff being the lone dman capable of playing second pairing minutes. I don't think Martinez or McNabb can play close to 20 mins per night, least they haven't proven to be capable of doing so quite yet.

Hopefully Ehrhoff's play rubs off on someone to step up their game, but until they do so, the Kings haven't found anyone who can replace Voynov's minutes. I view Ehrhoff as being more of a guy who will fill the spot that was occupied by prior veteran dmen.

Martinez breaking out big time this year would probably be the best thing that could happen for the Kings. I hope he does.

Boston Doesn't His Rights Anymore!

He belongs to Boston. And he's not coming over by all accounts, he's comfortable in the KHL.

Maxime Chudinov is a UFA in 2016 and open to going anywhere...LA would be a great destination just as long as we trade some overrated and overpayed D-men to make room!!!

Boston does hold his rights as of now.

After he plays out his contract with SKA, he could be a free agent, or he could be considered a group 4 (defected) which is a complete mess. The commissioner himself has to get involved if those players want to come in.

Regardless, I don't see a guy like Chudinov who's had success in the KHL wanting to bolt for an AHL contract that's a big pay cut. The Kings certainly aren't going to sign an undersized guy with no NHL experience to a one-way. That's just not happening.

he doesn't even need to "break out" really, if he literally just a) stays healthy and b) stays consistent, he's more than fine

we're talking about a guy who has never even played 70 games in a season, yet he produced at a clip equal to ****in Brent Seabrook last year

he keeps his **** together for even 70 games this year and that's your 2nd pairing rock, book it

Wouldn't shock me. Martinez is getting too underplayed on this board for my liking. How many people advocated trading Martinez while wanting to sign Oduya? Doesn't add up.

i feel like people don't pay attention to what players actually do, and mainly rely on the "eye test" instead

Oduya is basically on par with Matt Greene (if not worse as of the last few seasons), and people think Greene is overpaid?

Can you give us a few highlights from it?

Thread is gone now, but it basically went like this -

Dear Stan I wrote you, but you still ain't callin'
I left my cell, my pager and my home phone at the bottom
I sent two angry posts back on the twenty-fifth, you must not've got em
There probably was a problem with a mod or something
Sometimes I scribble my posts too angry when I jot em

Dear Mr. I'm-Too-Good-to-Give-Out-Decent-Contracts
This'll be the last angry post I ever send your ass
It's been three days and still no word, I don't deserve it?
I know you got my last two posts
I wrote the rants in 'em perfect
That Seabrook contract is a disaster
All of your moves have been haphazard

That's for kingsfan.

Martinez needs to step up, next year the Kings will have to decide whether to re-sign Ehrhoff or let Forbort step in.

Doughty-Muzzin
Martinez-McNabb
Forbort-Greene
