The Kings scored more goals on the breakout last year than on the cycle, mainly based on their outlet system.

Also, the Kings are one of the lowest shot blocking teams in the league defensively.

Offensively the only guys they put in front of the net generally are bigger players who you would consider "Power forwards", IE King Brown, Clifford/Nolan, and Lucic will be one.

A) Of course we score more goals from the breakout because from the cycles we score exactly 0
That leads to the problem that very very few goals are scored since we are 90% in cycle mode.

B) We don't block as many shots defensively because the opponents always outsmart our stand around defense and don't need to shoot into the crowd.

Both arguments actually show the weakness and not our strenghts

It's only a preseason game, but by all accounts the young defenders really know the system and play a solid style.

And apparently possession was really good, its amusing hearing all the young players refer to it like it's the ultimate goal in hockey. It's amazing how much it is emphasized.

If you want me to go on arguing, you'll have to pay for another five minutes.

AMart was great last year. Until he got concussed. Then it was out of his control. Still, if Kings fans don't want him, other fans will. Heck, who wouldn't want AMart, the guy that killed Chicago and scored the SC winner in '14. I guess just some spoiled Kings fans.

this post says pretty much everything I feel about AMart. He was in Sutters doghouse for a long time and undeservedly so. kid's got the funk

The stats that stand out for AMart are he's never played more than 61 games, which I didn't realize until I looked. For a guy who has a career high of 18 PIM's you'd think he'd be on the ice more. Played a career high 19:56 a game at ES yet equaled his point total from the previous season of 22 points while playing 15:41 at ES-that's not good. His shot percentage was awful at 5.8% and the 4 points on the PP while averaging 1:57 (down a full minute from the previous season) of ice time which is also awful. Career high 103 shots on goal, probably needs to increase, career high 117 blocked shots. The question is if he stays healthy and plays close to 80 games does that mean more offense? Can he get to 30 points? Stay tuned...

If Doughty ever went down, i would be very concern. Cause now we have no one even close to filling that void.

Out of the teams with top-5 d-men, no one has anyone that comes remotely close to filling that void.

Karlsson? What, Methot and Ceci?
Giordano? Brodie acquitted himself well, but he's only slightly better than Muzzin imo.
Subban? rofl, Markov would die.
Keith? Seabrook/Hjalmarsson can hold down the fort defensively, and maybe their PTO vets could fill in, but otherwise no.
Only Weber really and that's because, in my opinion, he's not even the best d-man on his team anymore--that title belongs to Josi. Though Jones could step in.

Did I miss anyone? My point is really that sure, our defensive depth hurts right now, but none of the other contenders are really any better off behind their elite guy especially.

Great points BD.

The same points I have been making for awhile (great minds).

Our D is STACKED and will be just fine.

We have DD JM CE AM and BM who are all solid mobile responsible D and then we have Gravel (whom I have been heralding since his draft and am happy to see him proving himself worthy of the praise) Forbort who skates very well is sound positionally and uses his reach very effectively. Give him a season in the NHL and he will be a solid young D for us with 2nd pairing potential easily.

Our D is right there with best in the league and I would argue maybe even the best with the exception of Nashville in so far as stud D are concerned. Add in the fact that we play a solid D system and that we have exceptional goatlending (intentional) and we are in the top 5 defensively yet again this season. No worries, none at all. Sure it would be great to have the luxury of Voynov back on the team but we don't so we will have to make due with only having one of the very best D groups in the game instead hands down THE best D corp in the game.

Maybe Dougie Hamilton, but he has to improve his defensive play.

I agree. Playing D in the NHL involves limiting your mistakes, and making good decisions, and being in good position to defend. With that said, it is not easy, and things happen. I'd compare it to expecting a baseball pitcher never giving up a hit. I thought the D all played fairly well last night. I'm more concerned about getting some offensive pressure. Perhaps two three shifts last night where that was accomplished. Only goal was short handed.
