Taylor hit his first NWL homer for the C's. Crushed it over the rf wall. It was pretty impressive. Nat Bailey is a strong pitchers park.

I don't understand.

Refsnyder has been awful at the plate and defensively for 9 games but we judged him too soon because he just had one good game?

Of course not. I just found the timing of his good game, coming immediately after his worst game and a handful of hilariously reactionary comments, kind of entertaining.

So yes. You (or... I don't know about you specifically, but everyone who made up their mind on him Friday night) judged him too early. Like... way, way too early, and not because of today's game, but because anyone who makes a decision on a player after nine games is doing so far too early.

People need to remember that Refsynder was an OFer in college and only played OF in 2012 then turned into a 2B in 2013 when the Yankees deemed his bat not good enough for a corner OF spot. So we need to be patience with him or better yet move him back to the OF when Travis is back.

Zeuch and Reid-Foley both had really bad outings.

Carlos Ramirez had another great outing out of the bullpen though. I really hope he gets a September callup.

It's hard to believe he's at AAA when he's been pitching for three years and has thrown a total of under 150 innings in his life. It would be a great story of he could make it.

There are a few interesting internal pen options for next year. It'll be fun to see how things shake out.

Yep. He's literally their fifth option as a middle infielder, but he has to play sometimes when the #1 and 2 guys are out. He has a hell of a lot more upside than Barney and Goins, though, and he's under cheap control going forward, so it makes sense to play him somewhat regularly the rest of the year.

Man, they 3.5 out. I know, a bunch of teams are ahead of them. It just tantalizes you into believing. They can still make a run at this thing.

He seems to be getting better the more he pitches which makes sense obviously.

Tim Mayza is another guy that should get a shot.

That's good.

Too bad no Warmoth or Adams

I've gotten to see Warmoth earlier in the week, so that's not a huge loss. I've also got 3 more games to potentially see Adams.

The bigger kicker is what I mentioned yesterday: Nate Pearson pitches tomorrow. I have tickets tonight and Monday and tomorrow's game is sold out.

I'm also taking a liking to Clemens. He's a patient hitter and he has good long at bats with some pop.

Hopefully he does better than the last 1b/dh from the Canadians that I stumped for: L.B. Dantzler.

So are the Jays finally going to assemble a club that can do more than hit the long ball to win games? It seemed like too often it was a home run or nothing for too many of the batters they assembled.

Granted I haven't watched them too closely this season, but it was one of my fears following them the past two. Great offense when the bats were booming (ie. they had the home run stroke), but awful at "small ball" and manufacturing runs when the home run wasn't there.

Regular reminder that "small ball" is mostly a bad idea and that the 2015 team dominated in every aspect of hitting.

Regular addendum to note that the Jays are 3rd in the AL in sacrifice hits (non-sac-fly variety) and that the AL leader in the category is the crappy White Sox.)

Shoutout to Dominic Leone for joining the 1 fWAR club this season. Pretty great find, turning 26 in October and under control for four more years.

Went looking to see if Shaw uploaded video of Samad Taylor's HR tonight since it was a TV broadcast game. Instead I found this:

2 years ago they were opponents, now they're in the same system (and Danner is, at the moment, no longer a pitcher)

Shapiro's group seems to have a great eye for spotting underrated pitching talent.

Others can speak for themselves but it's my impression that when someone says "small ball" they aren't merely talking about sacrifice plays, they are talking about getting on base in whatever way to put pressure on opposition pitching staffs and defense.
