This trade deadline reminds me of the McCann trade. Started off looking really great, and then blew it at the end. Overall the Leafs moved a lot of pieces around to end up just slightly better than last year, and paid a huge cost to do it
I mean relatively speaking for what they gained compared to what they gave up, the cost wasn't too steep at all. Sure it sucks to lose a couple of 1sts that go out the door, but the Leafs are a better team today than they were a few weeks ago. Good enough to win a round in the playoffs and go even further? Who knows, but I like their chances more now than I did before they made some of the trades they made.

Idk, I really don't get the Sandin trade. Can't help but wonder if there was something else Dubas was working on and it just fell through. Oh well, hope Gus enjoys sitting in the press box lol
And I don't get people who don't get the trade.

How productive is it to have a malcontent in the press box down the stretch and into the playoffs and all next season?

Im sure Sandin asked for a trade
Yeah I suspect so as well but the value seems kinda poor. Gus is a dead asset at this point and the Bruins pick is a borderline second. Good young dmen don't grow on trees... I hope that pick can be parlayed into a deal at the draft now

Look, do I wish the Leafs had gotten an NHL quality scoring winger for the left side? Yes. Is it the end of the world that they didn’t? No. Dubas did a lot of good things this TDL, greatly increasing the quality of the centre and defence depth. He even managed to recoup draft capita on an asset that he and the franchise didn’t envision a future for here, in a deep draft to boot.

It’s not ideal that Knies is our great hope for left wing scoring given his obvious lack of NHL experience but there are worse options.

If you’re disappointed the 1st wasn’t move the reality is no one on the market today was worth trading it for. If anything it’s now more incentive to beat Tampa and Boston in the playoffs so that pick is as high as possible.

I don't fully understand why the sellers didn't sell more pieces. What a bizarre trade deadline. Klingberg? JvR? Hello?

Anaheim literally signed Klingberg to a 1 year deal with the intention of selling him at the deadline. In the offseason, they already knew they weren't a playoff team.

Massive fumble by their GM, unless something trickles in after the deadline.
