I am find with forwards esp since there is nothing left unless someone coming out from left field.

Holmberg got game and can play.

As it stands, we have one too many defencemen based on what makes practical sense. We are also short on depth on the wings and in goal.

I really hope Dubas has a last minute move or two up his sleeve. The status quo is good, but not ideal.

Interesting graphic. Eastern Arms Race. Interesting what team was at the top acquiring the most players....

For those who think we're done, curious, how do we feel about our plan to keep 9 defensemen?

Honest question, it seems y'all are right considering it's already 1:40PM, I just don't understand Dubas' rationale for acquiring 9 NHL Defensemen, especially if it means one of our best (Lily) doesn't play.

Personally, despite being a fan of Dubas work, I don't really agree with this approach considering this is the most invesment we've done towards the playoffs in years. Especially considering Schenn, Gustafsson, Holl are UFAs.

Tampa had to use 9 defensemen en route to their Cup win in 2020. I hardly think shoring up on defensive depth is a mistake.

Lily will absolutely play. He was out as he was banged up, and he wanted to give the new guys some ice time.

In all probability, this is our lineup as we sit right now.

McCabe - Brodie
Rielly - Holl
Giordano - Liljegren

Gus - Schenn first subs
Timmins - next years project.

Schenn might get games in as a 7th, or if we have a need for physicality.

Having the backups in case of injury, that are decent NHL players, and having Timmins for next year is good with me.
I think Schenn might take over Holl or have Lilly and Holl switch. Whenever Holl plays with Reilly, he thinks he is Bobby Orr but when he plays with Gio, he is a good solid no nonsense defensive Dman.

Which is vague and why people use qualifiers like 'high' or 'lottery' or 'late' or 'virtually a 2nd'.
Just get a player who is good and possibly great. That’s my motto

I'm not sure the Leafs are done.

But if they do end up keeping the 9 d-men, I have no issues with it. I don't think the Leafs see Timmins as a piece for the playoffs this year (unless injuries require it) but rather as a piece for the future that they don't want to risk losing by waiing him. That basically leaves 8 d-men which sounds about right for a playoff run. As for Lily not playing, I think Keefe sat him last night because he felt that after getting a bit beat up in the first game of the back-to-back, he could use a rest. So, I'm not sure it's indicative of future use.

But as always, I could be wrong.

If we don't get a top 9 forward option I think it speaks to the organization having faith in Knies contributing.
Idk. I can't see management leaving a crucial spot in the line up for a college kid who has never played in the NHL before. I think they'll try him out. But I'd be surprised to see him game 1, unless he ridiculously over performs.

Garland at $2.5 mil for the next 3.5 seasons is a solid asset to have. Even if he’s just a slight upgrade over Kerfoot.
You pretty much nailed it. The Leafs would be paying a first for a slight upgrade on Kerfoot. That's where the conversation ends.

Keep the first and Kerfoot now, and the first could be used currency for an offseason move before the draft, or even use the pick.

Far more player availability in the summer IMO.

Why not just call it what it is?
Most likely because it does not fit the agenda of the person using the term. For example, people who want to depcit Dubas as incompetent like to say that Dubas gave up a 1st round pick pick to move Mrazek (and ignore the 2nd the Leafs got back) while those who are more pro-Dubas like to say that the Leafs moved down places in the draft.

Basically, how you refer to a pick depends on the story you're trying to tell.

Apparently the Sabres are trying to acquire Wilson. If he’s actually available, Dubas BETTER go all out to get him! If he ends up getting moved to anywhere but the Leafs, I’ll be pissed!!

I think at the end of the day. Is there any available forwards who can bump Calle down to the 3rd line, assuming ROR is 3C on the market?
I don’t think there is.
