Very possible that there was simply not an upgrade availlable for a price the Leafs were willing to pay.

I think it's very possible that we could end up seeing ROR on the third line which could make a big difference.

If we are seriously considering going into the post season with 10 NHL ready defensemen and no upgrades on the bottom 6 - Lafferty just replaces Engvall that is not an upgrade, I'd give this deadline a mediocre C- because we essentially lost Sandin for no apparent reason.

We can afford to trade Gustafsson, Holl, the 2023 1st and Kerfoot assuming there is an immediate upgrade to him.

Sandin was blocked from regular playing time for the entirety his current contract. So he was not going to get better sitting in the pressbox eating hot dogs for 1.5 seasons, nor was he going to accumulate more value.
