Looking back on it, it was a terrible deal. At the time, the deal looked like:
A youngish 3/4 defenseman who had a hell of a year prior and was struggling.
A young NHL sniper who had a solid start to the season before fading off.
A gritty 3C in the making who has all the intangibles
A first round pick.
At the time, the trade was a nice on for Atlanta. The pieces they got were all quality pieces, each one had their doubts and their struggles but that deal had the potential to work out amazingly for them. Unfortunately, it didn't.
Exactly. And that was for the top-goal scoring forward in the league over the years he was in the league.
That's why I think if we deal:
A youngish 3/4 defenseman playing top pairing minutes coming off his (arguably) best year..
A young NHL sniper showing promise and being showcased on our top line.
A pick or mid-level prospect...?
We could net a Getzlaf coming off a terrible season... or Benn who was recently dealt away and is holding out. Perry might take more.
