Agreed. Holland never mentioned how good the veteran would be.

Veteran defenseman, and a 'hockey deal' why that's Brett Lebda music!

a hockey deal is a trade for an actual useful roster player, under 30, that helps today and tomorrow as they're signed beyond this year

if holland believes adding a 35 year old to play as our #8 dman in the pressbox who is a UFA as a hockey deal then he has lost his mind

Holland seemed as though he was referring to a "hockey deal" as a standard trade deadline deal in which a contending team adds a veteran player for depth purposes. Tallinder or a similar player would be a good addition to the bottom pair. We could use a steady defensive defenseman who would be an upgrade over Lashoff/Kindl. Someone who can be acquired cheaply (mid-late round pick) without any long term commitment. If the right deal comes along on a bigger name then maybe they pull the trigger, but the reported asking prices for those big names are too expensive atm, especially for a bubble team.

nope it isnt...

In no way, shape or form is Moulson the better overall player. Even what Moulson is best at, the only thing he's good at, is being in front of the net and Vanek is better.

Just wanted to see what you guys were exploring trade wise. If you are looking for someone cheaper than Vanek, Moulson is obviously an option.

But no team should trade for Moulson if they aren't going to put him on the top PP unit and give him the spot in front of the net. That's his bread and butter and where he makes his money.

Are the Wings planning on going all out or would you be willing to sell some pieces?

I wouldn't mind seeing Alfie in a Bruins jersey alongside our other Swedes.

standing pat is the best bet. or maybe some minor deal. holland talked yesterday about how he'd like to make hockey trade.

alfie won't be traded unless he absolutely wants it. 99.9% sure of that.

that said, bruins are one team i'd see him willing to go, fitting well and personally being able to cheer for him during the cup run.

We could stand pat, Or go after a top 4 defenseman. The only piece I can see us possibly trying to trade would be Kyle Quincey other then that were not really looking to sell unless It makes us better. Seriously doubt we would move Alfredsson other then if he ask to go to a contender like Boston we shall see In another week.

Dreger "prices right now aren't cheap. For example, the asking price on Steve Ott is a 1st round pick & a top prospect"
Now I really hope the Wings aren't buying. I listened to a Holland interview from a day or two ago and he said that he was only interested in a "hockey trade" and no moving prospects or draft picks. I assume that covers the young guys too. If that's the case, not sure we'll see the Wings do much. Sounds like teams are going to be asking for the moon, which for us is young guys and our first.

Holland won't trade a top prospect for a rental he said.

Holland said he will not sell at the trade deadline. Would like to make a hockey trade if possible. Trade that helps now and in future.

Man so were stuck with Quincey then for the rest of the season, And possibly the playoffs if we make It that far. Bummer.

Yeah I cant believe that we cant at least maybe get something for Quincey, TooToo and Eaves.

Two of those guys were on waivers and no teams were interested. What makes you think someone would give up anything to get them? Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if someone claimed Eaves if he's exposed to waivers again.

Quincey is another story though. He's played pretty well recently, but I just don't think many team would see him as a good rental. I could see him being traded in a multi-piece deal though.

Not necessarily stuck with Quincey. All Holland is saying is that we won't be sellers - implying that we won't trade our UFAs for picks/prospects.

He left open the possibility of trading for a non-rental, which Quincey could be included in a package for (e.g. Certain Edler proposals) or a tit for tat trade where Quincey is shipped over for a different defenseman.

player A: good but not great skater. shot isn't anything special. not really a good puck mover. can produce on pp but isn't a pp QB. can't produce ES. first pass and general off. hockey sense is meh. prone to errors defensively with and without the puck. good/ok at everything, great at nothing. minute eating dman.

player B: player A: good but not great skater. shot isn't anything special. not really a good puck mover. can produce on pp but isn't a pp QB. can't produce ES. first pass and general off. hockey sense is meh. prone to errors defensively with and without the puck. good/ok at everything, great at nothing. minute eating dman.

player A's value: one GM said that he has his value at 2nd + 5th. asking price is probably 1st (+).

player B's value: wouldn't be picked off waivers.

I think Kenny is too emotionally attached to his players. Everyone has a de facto NTC.

Yeah that's true If Holland Is still trying to work out a deal for Edler, Quincey could still be part of that package AKA Cap dump.
