I would do it if we switched Sheahan for Pulkkinen.

Yeah, that would make more sense for us. Pulks is a really good prospect, but he's stuck behind a lot of wingers.

We can lose Sproul and still have a similar NHL-ready player in Marchenko + we have Oullet and co to boot.

But as someone said above, that 1st could be our highest pick in forever so I would be reluctant to part with it. I'd rather give up a 2nd plus another prospect like Ferraro or Callahan. I'm really not that fussed about losing 3 or 4 kids when we've got so many of them right now.

Is it weird that I'm very iffy on moving Pulu?

No its not, he has had an excellent transition to NA ice and that slapper is a thing of wonder. I certainty see top 6 potential in him and a force on the PP. However, with all of our other wing prospects there isn't really room for him in the top 6, which is why it makes sense to deal from a position of strength to fill a weakness.

wouldn't do any deal right now. need to know where the pick is.

if it's around #15 and there isn't any player that the wings scouting staff likes, i'd be willing to move it.

sproul might never be more than #5 guy but he potential is intriguing. sheahan for reasons already mentioned. i'd prefer to move winger.

value is pretty close but i'd probably not pull the trigger on that one.. as things stand now. well, ain't gonna get #2 guy cheaper than that.

i'd prefer RH guy but dekeyser and big E can play the right side so it wouldn't matter that much. would be nice to have RH shot on pp though, and babs seems to value handedness on D.

Most reports had Holland less than thrilled about sending three pieces for Edler, let alone four, and I doubt that's changed. With Z possibly on ltir for at least another stretch of the season, we won't need to throw in a cap dump like Samuelsson and we definitely don't want/need salary dumps coming back. The deal's really:

Sproul, Sheahan, 1st for Edler

I can see Sproul moved in such a deal, but I think Backman would be the more likely guy for Detroit to move. I don't think the 1st is available until we know where it's at. Edler's not worth that package if that pick is in the top 10.

I'd look at moving Pulkkinen, Backman, 2nd for Edler, if it's not good enough, so be it. I'm fine rolling the dice with an upgrade in free agency or just going with a kid or two next year.

Samuelsson is just a cap dump throw in to help the wings bring in edler. On the main boards wings fans have been saying the Canucks would have to take him or tootoo. But I guess that was before zetterberg a injury. I'd gladly do a deal around sproul, sheahan, and a 1st (top 10 protected otherwise it defers to 2015) for edler and Anthony

Really as far as I am concerned that is a very generous offer, more than they probably should offer. If Vancouver wanted the bigger players they shouldn't have waited until they improved their status as NHL contributors and Edler proved an incredibly poor fit for Torts.

Go ahead though find a better deal and one where Edler is likely to waive kind of tired of discussing him. I don't think we should be buyers anymore anyway, need to here the diagnosis on Z.

Sheahan will end up being a big, fast 40-50 point defensively responsible center, or the best hockey player in that deal, so I'll pass. Vancouver has been trying to make a hard sell on Edler for a while now. If someone is trying that hard it's usually not worth buying, at least not at the price they want you to.

The Red Wings don't have to get desperate. The brass just needs to be smart and sign a defenseman to a couple year stop-gap deal until Ouellet and Sproul are ready. Even then, they really don't have to as Marchenko should already be seeing everyday duties. Ouellet may even play his way into the starting line-up at training camp.

Kronwall - DeKeyser
Ericcson - Smith
Ouellet - Marchenko
Kindl

I'm fine with that. But for S&Gs I'd do Marchenko + Ferraro / Andersson + Cap dump + 1st. Vancouver fans won't like it, but then again, they aren't going to like any proposal thrown their way.

Well, more like Vancouver fans have been trying to hard sell Edler for a while now. I'm sure Vancouver, the organization, has too i.e. the deal Holland ultimately said no to because Vancouver wanted even more than what was on the table.

I'm elated that deal never happened. Holland isn't the best at trading players but at least he's good in regards to not making trades if it doesn't make sense for his team. Don't resign any of the same retreads in the off-season and I think we may have a GM I can support.

i think it would make a lot of sense to improve the D... within reasonable price ofc.

from what i've gathered, gillis only listened offers at the draft. and that's it. he's said, at least few times, that he's not asking players to waive their NTC's.. fwiw.

i'm not sure if he's ever been really shopped.

Yea, I mean, every team would like a puck-moving defenseman but if a trade doesn't make sense, it doesn't make sense. It goes without saying you have to give something to get something but it shouldn't be the world. Especially for a #2-#3 defenseman.

Who knows what that even means though. The only known full NTC's VAN has are Lu and Bieksa. No information on anyone else.. he might not need to waive if it's partial NTC

edler is not good enough to be worth selling any really good young assets off for

this isnt a super proven elite young player we're talking about

he is solid and yes he would help but not at that cost

andersson
kindl
pulkinnen
1st rd pick

not a cent more

What would you guys think the price tag of players like Andy Greene or Matt Greene would be? Second pairing defensmen.

Matt Greene is an impending UFA, so with how hurt we are, rather just wait and sign him this summer. Rather that then give up assets to get him at the deadline.

Once again, it's all perspective. If you stop counting after the top 5 as being elite... top 10... etc. I don't think Zetterberg is elite at this stage of his career. A top 10 center in the NHL, but not elite.

I get the semantics POV, but it was the "anymore" part that caught my eye. As if Hank used to be elite but no longer is. I think he's been playing as well as he ever has, and in some ways, from a leadership/put-the-team-on-my-back perspective, even better.

"Elite" is a subjective term, of course. For my money, any definition that doesn't include Zetterberg as elite is not worth discussing :naughty:

I just saw on The Hockey News' Twitter that the Wings could be in the hunt for Legwand at the deadline if Nashville moves him (and if Hank is out the rest of the year).

If we give up assets for Legwand...I'll lose my mind. The last thing we need is another busted ass veteran.

I'd bet that's baseless speculation. People see that Zetterberg is out and all of a sudden assume that we desperately need to replace him. This is Holland we're talking about. "Getting Weiss back is like getting a replacement for Zetterberg."

Also, why on earth would we give up assets for a center rental? Its not like re-signing him to the (at least) 4 million he'll get on the open market makes sense when we'll likely have a healthy Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Weiss to start next season in addition to Sheahan, Helm, and Andersson.

Couldn't Agree More.

Zetterberg was selected Captain for Sweden ahead of the Sedin's.
Datsyuk was selected Captain for Russia ahead of Kovalchuk and Ovechkin.

If those 2 are not elite? I don't know who is "Elite".

Exactly, if both Pavel and Hank were out I could maybe see it more. But with Datsyuk playing we have Datsyuk, Weiss, Helm and Sheahan/Andersson as depth this year.

Honestly, depending on the price we need to focus on the defense. Maybe if a player like Setoguchi or Stempniak is available then go for them to help out the scoring but other than that defense and ship out some guys (Cleary, etc) to playoff teams who need depth and get picks.

Lol at Zetterberg not being elite. He's only behind Crosby, Malkin, Getzlaf, Ovechkin, Kane, Kessel and Tavares in points per game, all while being the best defensively out of the bunch

i could still see us trading for a non-rental dman like an edler, campbell or kulikov type of guy as holland still seems to be indicating thats what he wants and feels we need

apart from that i hope we do nothing but perhaps shed some contracts for draft picks

vanek? no thanks, lacks any work ethic, inconstient play, dosent seem overly motivated

i honestly think matt moulson is a much better overall player when everything is factored in

when factoring what kind of contracts they will get, moulson might be better option but i see vanek being better at basically everything. i'm pretty sure isles fans feel the same way.
