Unless they get out of the Atlantic, let him walk. When was the last time we saw Shanny and Dubie together ?? Perhaps his spell over Shanny is wearing out and Shanny is distancing himself from Kyle??

If this core fails again, than it’s still on Dubas. He has stood firm this is the group to win, and maybe he’s been wrong all along. Still think signing Tavares is the move that set this team back. If they make the ECF than give him a short extension and see what happens, anything less he should be gone with Shanny

Is Shanny in danger of losing his job??? I just think that if Toronto doesn't make it to the ECF, then Keefe and maybe Dubas is gone. But, what other changes should be made? I just noticed that out of your 13 forwards you have listed by capfriendly, 7 of them are UFA after this year and 1 is a RFA. That means that you only have 5 forwards signed beyond this year. Maybe a new GM brings in new talent. I don't know.

He should already have been extended. If they win in the playoffs, great. You have the guy responsible still signed on as GM. If they lose, just fire him. I don't see any benefits to leaving it hanging over the team

Really depends on this years playoff results. If we get out of the first round, I’d probably say extend. If we have another disappointing first round exit, there’s gotta be some major changes in management and on this roster.

I think the question that needs to be asked first is to fire Keefe after this season, and the answer would come back the same: it depends on what happens in the playoffs.

Dubie takes over a team coming off a franchise record season with

-Mathews
-Marner
-Nylander
-Rielly
-Kadri
-Andersen
-Brown

as well as having all our draft picks and people act like he's done a great job because he's made the playoffs every year while never getting out of the first and also gutting our picks

truly remarkable how low the bar is set , not surprised however since an even greater number thought Burke was a genius for trading 1sts then finishing 2nd and 9th last

As of now I would extend him but if the team fails again in the first round it’s a whole different discussion.

Likely extend.

Hes made some moves that I don't agree with, but overall imo hes been a much more positive influence than negative. It could be A LOT worse.

If the Team falters again though and he doesn't fire Keefe, then both should go.

I think it really depends on what your definition of success is.

From one perspective, the Leafs have had absolutely no success whatsoever during the Shanahan regime.

From another, they've had their best seasons with the best core of players they have ever drafted by a mile in that period, including a Leaf actually winning the Hart Trophy(!)

As usual with the Leafs, it's never simple and there is no easy answer.

Ive been quite critical of him and the Murray trade was horrendous but he won me over with ROR and Accarai trade.

Dubas has made some bad deals, but I’m not sure how one could call the Murray deal horrendous when we got the player (who has generally played well), retention (25%), and multiple picks (3rd & 7th) for future considerations (aka the literal hockey definition of nothing)

dubas is

-adaptive - isn't ruled by a singular theory of hockey
-aggressive when needed
-calm when needed
-creative (attributable to pridham as well)
-aware
-quick to fix something that isn't working; even own moves

also has a great eye for talent though some of that applies to the team he has around him as well. like we draft well despite having less picks than usual lol

he's also pretty much the only GM we've had in the last 4 decades that can properly assess and explain his dealings and motivations in effortless detail and you can walk away satisfied with the answer.

probably the easiest extension in my eyes

As of right now he's done absolutely nothing to earn an extension what's he done?

The ass kissers will say Well look at his regular season record, franchise record in points, top 5 finishes, bargain signings in Bunting, Jarnkork and Kampf."

And while all of that is true, those of us don't have our head up his ass, and do not accept failure will say "But how many playoff rounds has he won?"

And at that point the ass kissers lose because as of today the answer is 0.

If that changes I will be the first one to say extend him, assuming Matthews signs.

But It's got to change, I'm not kissing his ass for nothing like so many do.

this is a bad deal , he lost the net and was regulated to b/u before his latest mystery injury

-paying to dump a crap injury prone goalie then instantly acquiring another one is the very definition of horrendous asset mgmt

Extend if we make it out of two rounds alive, if not I think its time to get a different perspective. That would be 6 7 years not out of the first at that point or second round?

The cups the goal after all. He's had enough time if this year doesn't work out again.

1) your first comment sound as though you’re claiming those things happened during this season, which is untrue:
- he didn’t lose the net
- he wasn’t relegated to backup
- his injury was an ankle injury, not a mystery

2) Mrazek and Murray are not particularly similar. I’ll give you both are injury prone though. I’m not going to act like Murray is the guy I wanted us to go after, but you haven’t made a strong argument at all that it was poor asset management. Especially once again, when we gave up precisely nothing for him. In fact, we gained 2 picks

Time to move on. Time to get different and fresh look
The team has to make it conference finals for him to get extended and that goes the same for Keefe.
You only get so many kicks at the can

Nobody in the history of GM was given a team like his and still manage to produce so little

Let me remind everyone he's the same guy who hired Keefe and kept him even though we lost to our bitter rival Montreal being up 3-1. I guess that never happened

He depleted this team of any depth by giving huge contracts left and right

His draft picks? I dont' remember we drafting Eric Lindros. None of his draft picks actually panned out into anything yet people make it sound like we have the best farm in the league

It's his love affair with his coach that just gets me every time.

If there was a title for overrated GM, this guy gets it. Polished looking, well spoken but really lacks substance
