Long time reader, first time poster.

It seems like they let them push them around all year. Lose 5 games to a team at least give them a reason to respect your team physically. Philly does this to them and that really seems to throw them off their game.

I don't understand how there's no retaliation when they run the goaltender multiple times and then high stick him in the mask. It wouldn't be as frustrating to sit through if they didn't just stand around and let the Pens have their way with them physically(minus Dubi and Calvert).

That sucked (and if the series wasn't on the line, I'd be saying something different) but when you're in the situation the Jackets were in, you're better off getting retribution on the scoreboard, especially given the Refs bizarre non-calls tonight.

I'm not going to get distracted by the officials. They suck and we all know it; nothing we can do about it.

I give Joe Vitale a 7, but the Russian judge only gave him a 5.

Everyone sees Anisimov's great goals and think he's only offense. He's arguably one of our best two way players. Plays a TON of time on the PK.

He's still developing, but I love his all around game.

"Only offense"? I will give you the defensive angle but the guy has been a black hole offensively this series.

I should clarify, I'm talking about his offensive skill from shootouts to driving the net (from this season and last). We've all seen it, but most times he is focused on playing defense first. I think he is going to develop his offense more in the future.

Who cares? It's still a needless crosscheck in a game we were controlling (at least on the scoreboard.

I'm not even sure how much of a cross check it really was. Vitale sold it like he was a soccer player.
But yeah, Wiz has not been great this entire series. We need him to show up for games 6 and 7.

I like Arty as a player for us, especially defensively as others have mentioned. But as far as growing in an offensive sense, I'm not sure I see it from him. Bit of a mystery at this point obviously, but 22-17-39 out of him in a season is pretty good I'd say, probably wouldn't bet money on him averaging more than 40 pts over his career. Hope he proves me wrong, but right now Arty is a solid 3rd line center who locks things down defensively. Worth $3 million a year, at least to me, I think we got our money's worth on him this season.

Anisimov was our second highest goal scorer this year.

And has nothing to do with the fact that he has sucked offensively in the playoffs. He and Umberger have been the most invisible forwards so far (and at least Umberger has the sequence in Game 4 on his resume).

I know. That is so weird too. He is like the "quietest" 20 goal scorer in the history of the NHL. I think most of his goals came in losses or early in games we won comfortably. Hard to explain. I like him though

Two hands on the stick, to the back, looking at numbers? That is a cross check. I'd worry more about what the Jackets didn't do than that play.

The embellishment wasn't grievous enough to warrant a penalty and that was a cross-check. Idiotic play by Wiz.

Don't care. I don't like to see that crap in hockey - from either side.

What I don't like to see is our goalie getting pitchforked in the mask by a known dirty player (Neal) in front of three officials within 5 ft and they don't even warn him about that yet alone call a penalty. I mean wtf? What is the reason for this?

What is the reason? Tim Peel might just have something to do with it, believe it or not.

Cross checking calls are a matter of degrees.

If you don't two-hand parallel stick in the defensive zone along the boards on most board battles that you are engaged in, you will never make a competitive junior team let alone an NHL team.

That's literally how they teach you to defend in that situation. You cant two-hand drill a guy, but a "cross check" hard enough to get a guy off balance is what you're supposed to do.

...One of the many reasons I still believe hockey is an inferior sport to many others. So many "rules" are made up on the spot in practical application.

Plus the unjust random bounces seem to decide winners more often than other sports. Guys pretend like you make your own puck luck to justify the salaries everyone is making in the league. Bad for business to marginalize the sport and all.

Good grief, it wasn't even that grievous. He was going to get knocked off balance and probably hit the ice anyway.

Either way it should have been 2 minutes on Wiz, the only thing you are fighting for is 2 on V - and that is a stretch.

That was more concerning. Hopefully the Jackets do a better job of lobbying during game six. It's up to them to get the officials to pay attention - you know Crosby will be whining like a little *****. Jackets better do their part.

Either way, Jackets deserved to lose this one.
