If you are good enough to dress and play you are expected to produce. And if you are hurt, why are you playing instead of getting better.

Last 24 games of the season: 0 goals - 7 assists

Why did Ladd play with a hernia? Why did Lowry play with cracked ribs? By the time playoffs role around most squads have mutliple guys nursing something. Some can still preform, others struggle.

If PLD was hurt, he was hurt long before the playoffs started, JMO, but given that we were pretty much in the playoffs, PLD could have been healing a month before the playoffs.

And you are right, some guys like Wheeler or Lowry can play hurt, but others can't. And when it obvious that the player can't, take them out and let them heal. Playing them does no good.

I suspect its one of those things where you can play through it but surgery is ultimately needed. No rest is going to heal it up completely, but the risk of making the injury worse is probably minimal. If there was no real risk of making the injury worse, I don't think there are other players in the press box that would've been better than Dubois this year so he might as well have played.

If he's not injured, then he's really got to get it together over the off-season. Maybe a summer with his family here, an offseason to acclimate, etc etc will be good. I think both he and Laine were done a bit of a disservice by being traded once the season had started during a pandemic. It makes things extraordinarily difficult.

His play has nothing to do with injuries. Could he not just move another 5 feet and cover that guy on the ot goal last night? That wasn't even the worst of it, I could go on.

If he cant move and the team knows this.
Why is he out in the o.t.?

He becomes a liability if he cant already move.

Seems to me most players traded during season or at deadline failed to make an impact this year.? PLD was not making an impact even before, but it’s an extraordinary time and athletes are not machines. Perhaps he just needs an ordinary summer and a fix to whatever injury he had?

There are exceptions, Taylor Hall is doing very well in Boston and Palmieri has been a great add for the Islanders, but overall, it would be tough. Probably a bit easier in the US than going cross border.

My worry is the injury might be psychological. He seems so disengaged. We don't know what happened in Columbus but we know he basically quit on the ice and he has not looked like the player he has been in the past.

Anyone know why PLD was getting so much hate from the fans at Bell Centre?

He took a roughing call early in the game, plus I have no doubt much of that fan noise was fake noise plus a small amount of real fans……2500 fans in a big building don’t make much noise

One of the worst thing about this whole season has been the fake crowd noises...

That’s wasn’t his guy to cover, he was RW he left his position when he realized Toffoli was open but it was too late.

Would you be open to trading him?

PLD for Kk?

Obviously not the level of return that you may want or like, but a decent return.

Our risk is we are trading for someone who is actually the player we just saw while Kk is still 20 and developing. And your problem is that Kk stalls and PLD will be a top 10 center with size.

Just a discussion...

We’ll probably never know (for privacy reasons) but as an earlier poster suggested it might be psychological. I’ve had depression problems in the past and during those periods even getting myself on the ice for beer league games was a struggle. Trying to compete at the highest level would be brutal. I’d probably have body language like PLD. Regardless, PLD and the team are in a really tough spot now. He probably needs to get away from all things hockey for a few months.

I’m not convinced Tiffoli was Dubois’ man on that play. Dubois collapsed down, but he’s protecting the slot. If Dubois was standing beside Tiffoli, Caufield simply feeds the dman in the slot who walks in.

I'm still holding out some hope for next year but I thought he would at least be hitting and contributing physically and defensively. Though the entire team seems to have forgotten how to play defence and hit with any enthusiasm until we are down by 3 goals. You can tell both PLD and Stats arent at 100%. But still you have to put it all on the line when you get to the 2nd round and I haven't really seen that from anyone on this team in the last 2 games and some even the last 3 games.

If PLD cant get it going by next year I'm not sure what we do with him. Its almost more tempting to keep Copp and roll with him as a 2C and see if Seattle wants Dubois. But given our luck he probably breaks out there and makes us look stupid.
I get the disappointment and with you 100%. I think I would let the kid recover and have a normal camp / season before passing judgement. If his ceiling is one of the better 2Cs take it all day long. How much capital did we trade away for that over the last 4 yrs

I am not too worried about PLD overall. He wasn’t the best in playoffs or toward end of season

but he’s 22, he’s got a very lengthy CV of excellent gameplay and showing up to the playoffs… this year was the outlier, not the other way around. A fresh training camp will do him wonders. I still think he’s a tank and needs to find his game with the team. But I think once he does, he will really be something special and give us a sorely needed 1/2 punch

Imagine if Avs gave up on MacKinnon when he was 22….
PLD was the best centre other than Matthews in 2016 draft and his gameplay with CBJ supports that as well. Not easy to find those players.

When he came back from his first injury he was playing well. Around the time he scored an OT goal against. He was fast, he won board battles and came out of a few of them like a bull.

I think he'll be much, much better next year. Maurice won't be fired but I don't think the lines are tinkered with as much next season.
PLD and Ehlers will probably be on the same line next season.

If he was injured I'll be relieved that he might have another gear and really confused why they wouldn't shut him down for the season instead of risking damage
