I also think that many fans really only pay attention to the Jets, and may not realize that these kind of attitudes (young players coming in, emulating the older leaders) are on basically every team. The top guys set the pace of the team.

Agreed, during this entire Laine situation over the past few months multi former players on TSN have stated there is guys on every team, every year who are unhappy about usage, team role, city, coaching, etc.......we just don't hear about it. Coming from former players is the best form of validation fans can hope for, they know better then anyone.

#jetsleadership

It always starts with leadership and culture, and the younger players need to buy into the vision. The door is open for those who do, and I have every reason to believe PLD will walk right in. I do not believe Laine ever did, and that left Ehlers in a very difficult position. He can now stop looking back over his shoulder, which will help him fully integrate.

From today's WFP:
No floaters on Jets
"The club has skill up and down a deep lineup, but what I see more than anything is a group all pulling in the same direction — and much of the credit for that needs to be given to the current leadership group.
If you're wondering what the team's "identity" is, look no further than the values and beliefs of head coach Paul Maurice, captain Blake Wheeler and alternate captains Mark Scheifele and Josh Morrissey. Not to mention Andrew Copp, Nik Ehlers, Adam Lowry, Mathieu Perreault — yes, him too — and many others. In fact, all others — now....

And if you don't like it, don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out. Goodbye Patrik Laine and Jack Roslovic.

Maurice was uber-transparent about his team's makeup on Monday when our Jeff Hamilton asked him — in light of all the commotion around why Laine wanted out of Winnipeg — what a young player can do to endear himself to the head coach:

"Just be a good teammate... One of the critical pieces to being a young player is just kind of coming in and fitting into that room. So your room has a culture and a character and so does your team, a style of play....As the coach, you’ve picked your leaders. You’ve looked at the men in your room and thought these are the people we would like to have our young players emulate — how they train, how they train on their off days, how they approach the game.......You’ve got young guys that come in and will look at your top-end guys and say, ‘I’m going to play like them, I’m going to practise like them’ and they immediately get absorbed into the group."

Translation: like it or lump it, things are going to be done the PoMo/Wheeler/Scheifele way — or hit the highway"

Org's like this always fail. This isn't something you celebrate.

You have to be the Patriots of the past to get away with that garbage mentality. This isn't 1985. It shows incredibly limited leadership talent within the org. Why in hell they would say this crap publicly? They should be embarrassed. This org and coach have never won a thing in this league. Bizarre.

What's interesting to me is this is exactly how Pittsburgh has been run under Crosby and Malkin. Fit in or get out, and it's celebrated because they won. In the end it doesn't matter how you get to the Cup as long as you win it, then all is forgiven.

I think this all has to do with Laine's attitude towards leadership groups and training. He doesn't take anything seriously, so no one takes him seriously. When you present that blase attitude towards everyone and everything, don't be surprised when it's used right back at you.

The Jets needed help at center, but even more than that they desperately needed an even strength play driver.

The top 6 has been getting owned for most of the last two seasons and PLD drives lines.

Dubois has put-produced Scheifele at 5 on 5 and he's helped carry his lines to an xGoals percentage near 54%.

If he can do that here, it will amount to an instrumental change for the Jets and could potentially result in a ripple effect that makes other lines better.

Thinking of how deep our team can be this season with 4 solid lines, and looking back at that 2017-2018 run where we had similar C depth... it's a very exciting time to be a Jets fan.

Dubois' agent wants Tortorella to stop talking about client

"From Day 1 of camp, John Tortorella wanted to expose Pierre-Luc Dubois," Brisson said.

"I have not heard Paul Maurice once say anything about a trade request from both (Patrik) Laine and (Jack) Roslovic," Brisson said. "This could've been Operation Submarine, but ah well, Torts wasn't able to help himself."

Grain of salt, since this is coming from an agent. But Torts an issue? I'm shocked. Shocked, I say!!

Calling athletes today "softer" is just victim blaming, imo. "I couldn't coach him by yelling at him so it's his fault!"

Seems very unprofessional and just plain salty. That being said... Torts and Kekalainen's tears sustain me.

Tortorella has been ridiculous since the trade. Keeps saying he doesn't wanna talk about it and he treats all his players exactly the same, but yet he won't stop answering questions and keeps droning on.
Never used to hate Kekalainen either, but the way he acted all smug in the post-trade interview and tried to imply he ripped us off and won the deal by a landslide rather than admitting the reality of the situation doesn't sit well with me either.

Would I rather have my captain expect the best from me and keep it quiet from the media or a GM and head coach lambast you after the fact. Good luck Laine with that toxic group.

Kessel didn't fit with the Penguins and was ultimately moved.

Everywhere has a culture. Hockey teams, businesses, book clubs. Some are more rigid than others, but its definitely a thing and there are a lot of successful franchises with this mentality.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Actually the opposite of what you are saying is closer to reality.

Winning teams have always had and will always have strong leadership cores that keep others in check. Its a necessity or you get teams like the Oilers 2005 to 2015.

A bunch of top end talent with absolutely zero leadership = missing playoffs

Patriots of the past? They have been winning championships for most of this century

I think the interview with Torts the other night between periods really exposed Torts inner frustration about not just PLD leaving, but Torts listed a list of stars leaving CBJ and you could tell he was very annoyed by those players decisions and PLD is just the most recent one. Add that to the fact all the speculation, right or wrong, that a big reason why PLD & perhaps others left was b/c of Torts.......I’m guessing he’s feeling more then a bit defensive bordering on prosecuted by certain players, media and fans which no doubt hurts him to some degree but more so hurts his futures chances of getting another job in the NHL (not saying it’s true or not but possible).

That all being said, his obsession is becoming more then a bit weird now.....time to move of Torts.

Hell hath no fury like GM/coached scorned.
It’s bizarre how Torts is obsessed with PLD still....

Like I said a few pages ago, both Tortorella and JK are experiencing buyers remorse.

If they truly believed they got the best player for their team they wouldn't need to spout off about it.

They'd just shut up and get to work.

Instead, they keep harping on it as if they're trying to "sell" the trade not only to their fans and players, but, to themselves.
