Will the Habs make the playoffs?

If the Habs want to make the playoffs they need to start on time, something they aren't really doing and when they finally do get going, gotta score a bit more on their created opportunities, which is harder to do when you need skill to do that.

Starting slow is a direct result of being very tired.
Anyone who played competitive high level sports would know that fatigue is usually obvious at the start of the game, then adrenaline kicks in and the team might get a bump in energy., The ohter constant when one is tired is stupid mistakes, like hutson's for an example.

Why are they tired ? The team is canceling practices so they don't have to do that.

Other teams are playing and traveling just as much.

The excuse might work for a first year pro like Hutson, but it doesn't for the rest of the team.

Part of the reason the team is "tired" is because they start off slowly and then turn the tempo up as they play catch up from still not being ready to go from the drop of the puck.

A tired team tends to fold later in the game, not from the drop of the puck and then "adrenaline" takes over. That's just a weak excuse.

As a coach, captain, whatever you're not going to get your team starting on time every game and that's fine. When it's way more that theyre not ready to go than they are that's something the team needs to work on.

The team could really use an energy forward who doesn't suck, or two.

Our key players are Suzuki, Caufield, Matheson, Guhle, Laine, and Hutson.

Only Hutson is a rookie and it seems like he might’ve hit the wall — sure. But the tiredness excuse is not going to pick up more traction than that, every team has played more or less the same number of games. The Habs aren’t especially victimized by the schedule.

Of course; I am speculating it must be more fatiguing when you’re rarely the stronger player in 1:1s or 50-50 battles.

28 year old Guhle will be much stronger than current for example.

They also can’t win some nights on talent and xp alone yet so it’s all effort ant teamwork.

Whatever the reason, they do need to start showing up at puck drop if they are going to win games.

The probability of the Habs making the playoffs is probably similar to our voting (60% no, 40% yes).

Votes seem to be accurate from what I can see.

Yes! When you look at the contenders or teams on the rise, they have most of their core 25-30 range with some youth and some vets mixed in.

There is a lot to be said about a player like Guhle from age 25+. He's mature and experienced and a filled into his frame by then. You see this a lot with so many NHL players. Not everyone has prime years from 22-30. A lot of players primes are shorter (25-30). Some are 24-31 and some are 27-32.

I think the only other team that's had it as bad as us is Vancouver and they certainly have not performed well.

We hadn't spent back to back games in the same location since the first game out of the christmas break and traveled the most out of any team in the league during that stretch.

Fatigue is a legitimate issue here and they've done very well considering it. Now it's levelled off so we will see how they respond on tuesday.

Not all schedules are created equal, the number of games each team has played over the entirety of the season is irrelevant, it's the amount of travel the condensement of the schedule and the opposition over a certain period of time that will wear a team down.

For a month, starting from December 28th, I'm pretty sure Montreal has had it tougher than most, in regards to travel, the condensed schedule and the quality of opposition. It's been a genuine bonified gauntlet the boys have been through.

The fact they came out of it as well as they did is quite incredible. But it had to of taken a toll.

9 pts back of TOR (next vs MIN on Wed) with one game in hand
8pts back of FLA (next vs LAK on Wed) with two games in hand

I mean our big wins came mostly against Western teams, too: Vegas, Colorado, Dallas x 2 (3 pts), Vancouver, Utah.

We beat TB twice, but everyone seems to be beating them lately.

We've mainly struggled against Eastern teams, so maybe we'll be fine against Winnipeg & Minnesota because the West actually sucks.

I'm not expecting it, Connor will kill MTL and Minnesota will claim their 2 pts as usual against us.

Sure hope not but I'm expecting this.
 
Boston playing better and about to get their 1st D pair back (Lindholm-McAvoy). Will be tough to catch them.

It’s going to be tough. I think we will need something like 20-13 to only have a chance.
