Real bad free agent market, and how many names that are talked about here are actually available in a trade? It might not be as insane as you might think. A Galchenyuk that performs "fine" in these playoffs, with Kaprizov subbed in for Foligno on his LW? Not sure it's not worth a try for a year.

Disregarding that he's on the team already, looking at the UFA center market, Galchenyuk would probably be #3 on my "f*** it, let's see what happens list" behind Haula and Granlund, and both of those guys aren't exactly prizes.

We all like the idea of Domi or Strome or Cirelli to some degree, but doesn't mean that their teams are actively looking to get rid of them.
I get it but somebody is bound to be available. We're just a Staal regression away from having no legit top 6 centers. Ek, in an ideal world, is a perfect #3. Maybe you could argue that Galchenyuk can be a 2C but I'd need to have belief that he can put up 50 points next year and I just don't have it right now.

Someone will be available in a trade that fans haven't even considered. It's just whether or not Guerin will be able to make a deal happen.

I'm all for bringing Galchenyuk back if we don't find a better option. Frankly, most of the options we've discussed aren't "better options".

But it's Guerin's job to find that better option via trade. He hasn't been dealt a great hand in terms of centers by his predecessors, but it's still his job now, and unless he wants to end up like them he needs to be better.

Considering that he stood around and watched Trocheck get traded for a handful of quarters, Guerin is all out of grace period at this point. Time to actually do the job he gets paid for.

True, though without a Haula-type player to include, I wonder what that quarter would've ended up needing to be.

I'm sure that's what they said. Carolina couldn't fit Trocheck without sending money back

It was probably a mixture.

Regardless, as you highlighted above, it's a move we could have made without losing a whole lot that hurts, and I'm not sure why it didn't happen, but it's a black mark on Guerin's record so far. Relatively young, right handed top 6 center signed for 2 more years at 4.75. Even if we can't re-sign Trochek in 2 years, it buys us more time to find another solution, and again, we didn't lose much to make it happen.

lol I found it amusing. boring hockey just makes me laugh, sure its not pure offense and try to outscore the other team but I don't find it as boring with the dump and chase not being our main strategy.
Comparing this team to a Lemaire-coached team is crazy. Every team strives to play solid defense, otherwise you look like the Wisconsin Badgers since Granato took over.

agreed, I don't see how anyone can argue that proper structure is boring. maybe for the fans that never played they wont enjoy it as much but maybe just being a coach I enjoy it much more when we play proper defense and still fine ways to win 1-0 or 2-1. I personally don't need to win 8-6 to be excited about watching.

Why aren't the best teams playing the worst like a normal playoff round. I mean to say why are the Avs playing the Blues in the first round instead of one of those teams playing us as we are one of the worst teams?

Because both of those teams earned their way passed the play-in round.

Gotcha, I haven't been following very closely the last couple of months, I really didn't think the season would start again, even within the last couple of weeks I didn't.
