Playoff Keefe

How can you say coach is fine when we have one of the worst PP in the league with all this talent. That’s on coach. Tampa won vs Florida because of their PP. Heck even Mtl PP (with their pathetic offense) out scored our PP. this 2 me is inexcusable given that they had almost half regular season to adjust and he couldn’t

Fire this loser!!!!

I think people forgot he lost to a zamboni driver, got shut out twice last year at home and in final decisive game
His obsession with Joe was just too much

Dubas and Keefe both need to go. Culture change starts at the top. Dubas is a good guy but not the guy this team needs as a GM

That's precisely what I read. Because you know it was Marner who gave the puck away first game that lead to the winning goal. I believe that was Joe

He has Wayne Simmonds and Joe in the same PP.............. Dude, this is not 2010

Well even beyond that, the poster was insinuating that Keefe wasn't able to fix the PP because of Marner. If that was true, then it only reinforces my belief that Keefe has no place behind an NHL bench.

Here's some food for thought that will get me some hate. Give me hockey players that have lost some teeth. I believe all our pretty boys have all their teeth. This means one of two things, they have the world's greatest dentist or they aren't willing to make the kind of sacrificed that it takes to succeed in the playoffs. At the very least introduce them to the boards and corners. Our $million kids haven't met them yet. And for all those Hyman detractors, chill out. He was the only one willing to pay the price to make the play.

At some point that top line needs to take accountability for this pp. They are paid 11m to what?

The coaching and the management put them in positions to succeed. The top line players are the cause for this shame.

Their mentor was Patrick Marleau... Marleau had an incredible iron man streak and broke Howes record for games played. You talk about incredible dentists.... Marleau must either be unbreakable or is playing a very cautious style.

Babcock choked in the playoffs with a 1st place team several times too.
Babcock is a master of making a bad team good, a good team very good but he can't make a great team a winner.

He is great at using plugs to the best of their ability. But he also wants his talented player to play like plugs. The Leafs got the best out of Babcock for the time they had him and discarded him appropriately. They needed to replace him with a coach who is a winner, a guy that the players might not like but they will respect. I dont know that keefe is that man.

I've been saying this for the past couple years too. These guys need to pay the price and lose a few teeth. I think Muzzin summed it up a couple years ago when he said "they want it to be easy". If they keep having that mindset, they'll never win.

Agree about Hyman. He was willing to pay the price but his hands were too stone cold so it didn't matter. He had more chances than anyone else to score in game 7.

Adding to this

Babcock lost to Boston and Washington
Those teams have goal scorers and stars

Howe's hatrick is a goal, an assist and a fight. Marleau's hat trick is no goal, no assist and no hit.

I feel for Hyman. He is not a goal scorer. He likes to do the dirty work and set things up for the shooters. The problem is our pretty boys weren't willing to put themselves in the trenches and make the sacrifice to get a good scoring chance so, poor Hyman had to do it all. Check out where most of our shots came from. Hyman would be the only one of our 4 youngsters I would keep.

1. He should have scratched or benched Thornton.
2. He should have split up Matthews and Marner.
3. He should have given Matthews and Marner less ice time (from 25 min to 21 min).
4. He should have given Nylander more ice time (from 16 min to 20 min).
5. He (or maybe this is more on Malhotra) should have fixed the PP. There's enough talent to make it work.
6. He should not have re-inserted Sandin in the lineup after Dermott helped the Leafs get a shutout.
7. He should have given Spezza slightly more ice time.
8. He should have put Nylander on the first PP unit.
9. He should not have inserted a severely injured Foligno into the lineup.
10. If he was going to insist on inserting a severely injured Foligno, he should not have broken up the Kerfoot line that was saving us to do so.

Lots of confusing errors. But then again, I felt that way about Babcock, as well (though for different reasons / decisions). So who knows? Maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about.

Marleau sickens me. This past season he wasn't even good enough to play on an ECHL team or even an Alumni game. Yet he used SJ and the history he has with that team to force himself on the ice, despite him not even being able to keep up with a middle school ice hockey team. Truly disgraceful. Howe will always be a billion times better. Marleau hopefully never gets into HoF for this nasty stunt.

I can see that he really rubbed off on Matthews and Marner, who look like they are also destined to be career long losers and terrible people too, who put individual accolades over team success.

There is no greater loser than Marleau, but Matthews and Marner are chomping at the bit for that title.

Thats the thing. AM, Marner, Willie and the rest of the young core was never around players who needed to work their butts off to get to and stay in the NHL and the reason they managed to stay in the NHL is to give it 110% all the time. I think it might be too late for them to learn from these players. Not sure about you but whenever it is HNIC, there is always someone on the opposing team that is fire up to play the Leafs and it seems like he is going to make something happen every shift. I really can't say the same about the Leafs.

technically he got shutout in Game 7 too. Willy scored wht like a min left in the game?

Keefe's obsession with matthews-marner; jumbo was worst than babcock's obssession with marleau

All those games and not a single ring to show for it tells you everything you need to know about Marleau.

Hyman was willing to pay the price to make the play, but he can’t make the play.
Bottom line is that he can’t move the puck or put it in the net no matter how hard he tries.
However, on the third line he can lead a crash and bang line that was impressive when he was there.
For me that’s on the coach.

Ya! They need more guys like Muzzin without teeth who miss playoff games two years in a row. That’s how we win, by our toothless players getting hurt. Block a puck with your face you p***yes.

am I doing this right?

I said it from the first game of the playoffs, why is Sandin, who played maybe two games for us and was injured most of this season, inserted in the lineup ahead of Dermott, who played most of the season and formed a good third pairing with Bogosian. That first game he makes two errors that led indirectly to goals. Then Keefe reinserts him after Dermott helped the team get a shutout and in the most important game 5 he makes another two blunders that cost us goals. That's on the coach.

Overplay the stars and if that doesn't work overplay them more. Don't bother fixing the powerplay or anything, we'll just ice a $50 million dollar powerplay that doesn't score. Matthews and Marner aren't clicking so let's break up lines that are clicking and keep 16 & 34 together. Just cycle around the perimeter all game and have our D throw weak writers from the point, that'll do it. Not to mention that challenge...

Pretty much every decision he made was obviously stupid and the decisions he didn't make were paramount. Borderline actively sabotaged the team.

Just regarding your Howe comment, no one would ever dare compare Marleau and Howe the players. Marleau is a walking tidbit, an interesting fact but nothing else besides that. He has played more NHL games than Mr.Hockey but Howe is the 2nd best player to ever play Hockey.

WHA Howe who played from ages 45 to 50 is a better, greater and more memorable player/legend than Marleau.

Comparing the two is like comparing Jason Terry who's played 1410 nba games (10th most, but wasn;t a star though he won a big ring in 2011 with the Mavs) to Kobe who played 1346 games.

One is a f***ing legend whose name even after death won't ever be forgotten while the other is just a footnote in the sport.
