Playoff Keefe

I fire him. Dubas won’t.

He has a game plan, but he lacks pragmatism and in game adjustments. Breaking up that firecracker second line to insert a half speed Foligno is a massive blunder. Sticking with Jumbo on a PP 1 that was doing nothing is hard to fathom.

Keefe is a good guy, team loves him, he says what he means. He obviously can’t motivate, he has been out coached two years in a row, he isn’t an asset at this point.

He should be gone, unless Dubas completely cleans house.
dumbass should not be in charge of ANYTHING going forward , other then applying for EI.

So we should still have Babs by that logic.
I'll take the guy who took the eastern champs to game 7 with matty/mitch/ willi all being 21/22

over the idiot who could not get the 3 24 year olds to beat this EFFN scabs team

I was a Keefe fan boy but now I'm on the fence.

The lack of creativity and adjustments can't be forgiven. Especially when there's country club moves like not moving Marner around on the PP or splitting them up. He'll do it with everyone else but not Marner. Marner is allowed to be inefficient all he wants. Hence country club. I thought we were past these days.

The country club hurts Marner as well because he's not put in the right situations to succeed any more. They leave him out to dry on the PP in a position he has no business being in. JVR left how long ago? That's when his move stopped working. Yet here we are still refusing to adjust.

2 years now even the casual fan has been sitting here saying it's an issue. Now these guys are golfing.

Time to find the next Trotz.

Aside from the PP where he was being held hostage by money pass inventor Mitch, Keefe's issue was he played it way too safe in the series.

damn right you can argue the firing,,,,,,,,,,, are you nuts????????????????????

Dumbass gave into the spineless babies and here we are( the gutless ,overpaid babies run the show) with that MORON keefe failing to make the POs and then this putrid series.

The coach never wins in that situation where the locker room turns on them, it just is what it is. I liked Babcock as our coach despite his ego becoming massive, but when you lose the room, you lose the room

I always thought Dubas was just waiting to fire him anyway to get his buddy Keefe behind the bench anyway.

HAHAHAHAHA,,you think a tiny ego guy is going to overide and guide these "full of themselves kids"?

"lose the room", you say? huh,,he took the eastern champs to game 7

and the guy who "has the room" failed to qualify for the POs because he could not beat a total crap Columbus team and then AGAIN this POs against the worst team to qualify for the POs

so,,,,,, i ask,,,,,,what in the LIVING f*** does "having the room" mean or even MATTER.

Small sample size, but so far this guy is easily the worst playoff coach I've ever seen for the Leafs.

He adjusts to nothing, fixes nothing. His team has got and held a lead only once in 6 games and if it wasn't for one of the most miraculous comebacks in history their record would be 1-5.

His presence actively hurt the team tonight by overusing Jumbo, something that was called out way before it actually cost us the GWG.
You clearly forgot the like of 1980’s Punch Imlach, Mike Nykoluk, Dan Maloney and John Brophy. Those coaches were among the worst in all of sports, with the caveat that we also had the most horrific owner in all of sports at that time.

Refusing to change up Matthews-Marner when things weren't working; spread out offense; put Nylander on Matthews' wing etc...

NOTHING!

Terrible coaching. On top of that the moronic review in the 6th game was STUPID as F too

Dubas bet on his horses when he shelled out 50% of the cap on 4 players (all forwards). I would prefer a new GM come in and undo the mistakes. I do not trust Dubas to do anything meaningful; I fear he will ruin it even more so than he already has.

Stars of other teams put up points and lead their teams (Avs, Canes, Tampa, Boston, Florida etc...). The so called stars of this team are always looking to get it over with so they can go party and get instagram likes.

Leafs have about 13M in cap space with 8 more players to sign. Yea good luck icing a competitive roster.

Hyman: UFA
Rielly: UFA next summer

If it was upto me I would gladly take couple of years of not making playoffs. Play the F outta Sandin, Liljegren to get them experience. move out marner and bring in solid experienced NHL D-men to play with Lily and Sandin.

Or find players who can contribute in aggregate the same amount of points that marner can. what I mean by that?

Marner: 11 AAV; 90 points (on average in 82 game season).

Find 2 to 3 players who can put up 90 points together in that 82 game season; who don't play like wuss, can play up and down the line up have more depth and give opposition more than "one line" to focus on whenver leafs make the playoffs.

This team the way it is will never ever do anything in the playoffs. It is too top heavy to have any playoff success.

- Step 1: Fire Shanahan/Dubas
- Step 2: Hire a competent GM/Coach tandem (with NHL experience)
- Step 3: Trade Marner
- Step 4: re-tool (miss the playoffs for couple years)
- Step 5: Draft well (no more 1st rounders thrown away -> cheap depth)
- Step 6: Re-sign Matthews/Nylander when Tavares' contract is up
- Step 7: Hopefully have a well balanced squad to contend

Remaining Status-Quo is going to give the same results.

Tough series to watch. We had the defense, goaltending and PK working for once. Losing Tavares and Muzzin hurt but I wish the coaching staff had switched up the lines when it was clear the Habs were gonna trap all day and shadow Matthews.

Galchenyuk Matthews Nylander would have forced the Habs to play Austin honestly since there are two other legit shooters on the line.

Hyman Marner on the second line would have been fine. They are used to each other as well.

Also fire the entire staff responsible for the abysmal powerplay. Like yesterday.

Ah well maybe next year...

The penalty kill was ATROCIOUS in the last half of the series.

Montreal PP was 3/6 in games 5,6 and 7.

I think it would be a mistake to fire Keefe. This is probably the best thing that Dubas did for this team.

Keefe made some mistakes for sure. But he has only been an NHL coach for 1 and half seasons. He has learning to do. He reminds me of a young Paul Maurice. Do we want that again? Look at what he has done in all his work. I would take Maurice back in a heartbeat.

Firing Keefe isnt the answer. Taking a look at his assistants is definitely needed. Maholtra shouldnt be anywhere close to a PP unit. He never was any good as a player scoring and shouldnt be in charge of that. I was confused when that hire happened. If it was for PK and faceoffs, sure thing. But PP?

Find a past player that a PP unit was run through in their prime. How about someone like Martin St. Louis? Bring on Boudreau who specializes in defense and defensemen for the PK. Assistants definitely need to be swapped out. But not Keefe.

That being said, Dubas isnt all to blame for what happened this year. In the end, he put the players in place this season to succeed. Brodie, Simmonds, Bogo, Campbell and even Foligno were all sound acquisitions. The fault at hand lays with the core players. Reilly and Marner headline that list. They need to go to shake up the team.

Bring in players that are frustrated where they are at and want to win. Go get an Eichel from Buffal0. Go get a Tkachuk from either Ottawa or Calgary. That will shakeup this team. And at the same time make Matthews very happy.

I wasn't alive for that, I'm just comparing to what I've personally seen.

  • The power play went south 40 (?) games ago - Keefe has no answer
  • Our two top five scorers couldn't produce - Keefe has no answer
  • Marner looks like he's exhausted due to over work - Keefe trots him out on the PK
  • At home, where Ducharme has to tell you he's starting Danault - Keefe keeps starting the Matthews line
  • Joe Thornton - no more needs to be said
  • Shut out the Canadiens with Sandin on the bench and Dermott (who has played almost 300 games in the org) in the line up - Keefe puts Sandin back in
  • Kerfoot-Nylander-Galch line is producing - Keefe replaces Kerfoot with an injured Foligno
Finally
  • Any team that wants to play a disciplined defensive game can shut down the Leafs -Keefe has no answer
He is not a quality NHL coach, and should be removed by the end of this week
ALL OF THIS

Keefe is the worst coach I’ve ever seen

100%. Dubas surrounded himself with all the cool guys that he wanted to hang with. There was no thought about the makeup of the team , work ethic or how much they would sacrifice to get the job done. He had stars in his eyes. He gave them an outrageous amount of money so they would like him, really, really like him. This team was destined for failure the day Shanahan announced him as GM. They all got what they wanted. You can be sure that when Dubas and his pals hit the golf course, he won't be paying. I have never been more disgusted with an organization in my life.

He's a dime a dozen coach. What does he really do what other coaches can't ?

At least other coaches like Gallant will bring some experience on how to manage your team based on situation. He'll know how to pair up your top player with current best player, he'll know how to make changes on PP. Sure that's on Manny, but he's still the coach and override anything Manny says

There's nothing he brings special, he's not the connor mcdavid of coaches. When you lose to a zamboni driver, you should have been fired on the spot. Dude has a habit of embarrasing himself and this team, which says alot, this team has been through alot

Sorry, did you just say that the head coach of an NHL team was unable to fix an anemic power play for something like 40 games because it was being held hostage by a 24 year old winger?

That's precisely what I read. Because you know it was Marner who gave the puck away first game that lead to the winning goal. I believe that was Joe

He has Wayne Simmonds and Joe in the same PP.............. Dude, this is not 2010

Keefe is fine, defence is fine, goaltending is fine.

Pp and Forwards need to get their heads outta their ass or make a big damn trade and alter this core.
How can you say coach is fine when we have one of the worst PP in the league with all this talent. That’s on coach. Tampa won vs Florida because of their PP. Heck even Mtl PP (with their pathetic offense) out scored our PP. this 2 me is inexcusable given that they had almost half regular season to adjust and he couldn’t

Fire this loser!!!!
