Playoff Keefe

Keefe shit the bed. He's not very bright. He blew it last year too. There are better coaches waiting in the wings, but is Dubas too stubborn to move on from Keefe?

As stubborn as Keefe was about changing his power play perhaps?

Small sample size, but so far this guy is easily the worst playoff coach I've ever seen for the Leafs.

He adjusts to nothing, fixes nothing. His team has got and held a lead only once in 6 games and if it wasn't for one of the most miraculous comebacks in history their record would be 1-5.

His presence actively hurt the team tonight by overusing Jumbo, something that was called out way before it actually cost us the GWG.

The power play was shockingly bad.

The credibility left this regime once Mike Babcock left. Lou and Babcock both gone. Both hall of famers. Babs will get another NHL job.

The Leafs are left with the 3 stooges. All 3 should be fired. None of these 3 will ever be in their respective roles at an NHL level again.

The blame goes all around. When he's forced to play useless guys who never chip in with Mikheyev, Engvall, Simmonds, and Thornton thats already 1/3rd of your forward corps not producting in games where you need them to because your top line is not.

He's not better then Babcock though, but this group of babies made it clear they didn't wanna play for him. You can't argue the firing sadly.

No coach in the history of hockey has ever gotten less out of more than Keefe did in these playoffs.

Ridiculously overusing struggling players...inexplicably under using guys who were playing great....foolishly putting in a rookie defenceman who’s hopelessly slow and painfully soft.

Biggest failure of Keefe was his inability to motivate and instill confidence in a young team with such a fragile psyche.

Mumbling through his pressers about how “we’re right where we should be” - - do you think a guy like Torts would ever be such a beta like Keefe is?

Keefe's main appeal is he turned the asylum over to the inmates and it pumped up a lot of regular season numbers. His coaching decisions consist of a lot of button pushing but for no reason other than to check it out and see what happens.

He was terrible this playoffs.

Didn't shake up the first line and seperate Marner and Matthews.

Shoulda benched Thornton for Brooks or Nash, but instead he gives him loads of PP1 time. It was mind boggling especially seeing how much better Nylander was in that spot.

He seems like the kinda coach that's letting the players call the shots. Keeping Marner and Matthews together showed that. Plus after the game he didn't seem upset at his team or the effort of his players. He said he didn't even address the team after elimination.

Keefe is a substitute teacher fresh out of college.

The love affair with Joe Thornton is one of the most bizarre coaching things I've ever seen.

What is this crap about it being imperative to dress a liability?

A good coach has to wrestle with the GM sometimes in order to put the best team on the ice to win. Keefe never wrestled with Dubas on this matter.

Perhaps he never wrestled with Maholtra about the impotent power play either.

"The Blender" seems now like a coaching move that they do in the pros, but for no other reason.

I fire him. Dubas won’t.

He has a game plan, but he lacks pragmatism and in game adjustments. Breaking up that firecracker second line to insert a half speed Foligno is a massive blunder. Sticking with Jumbo on a PP 1 that was doing nothing is hard to fathom.

Keefe is a good guy, team loves him, he says what he means. He obviously can’t motivate, he has been out coached two years in a row, he isn’t an asset at this point.

He should be gone, unless Dubas completely cleans house.

If a coach can't motivate a player in god damn game 7.... is that problem really on the coach?? Players who cannot rise to the occasion need to be booted.

I only had 2 issues with the coaching staff. First the issues with the PP. Secondly and the biggest issue was entering the attacking zone on 5 on 5 play. Constantly wingers would take high un-screened shots on Price from the face off areas. Very rarely did they gain the zone and instead drop it back to the Dman and screen the goalie. That was how the Leafs were scoring goals, yet it wasn't being attempted repeatedly.

So we should still have Babs by that logic.

  • The power play went south 40 (?) games ago - Keefe has no answer
  • Our two top five scorers couldn't produce - Keefe has no answer
  • Marner looks like he's exhausted due to over work - Keefe trots him out on the PK
  • At home, where Ducharme has to tell you he's starting Danault - Keefe keeps starting the Matthews line
  • Joe Thornton - no more needs to be said
  • Shut out the Canadiens with Sandin on the bench and Dermott (who has played almost 300 games in the org) in the line up - Keefe puts Sandin back in
  • Kerfoot-Nylander-Galch line is producing - Keefe replaces Kerfoot with an injured Foligno
Finally
  • Any team that wants to play a disciplined defensive game can shut down the Leafs -Keefe has no answer
He is not a quality NHL coach, and should be removed by the end of this week

Continuing to keep AM and Money together and making no adjustments
Giving Money the most ice time on the team, despite his totally ineffective and embarrassing play
Thornton getting the minutes and opportunities he did? C'mon

Out coached by a guy who became a head coach 15 games ago (Ducharme) says more about the flaws of a core, organization and GM than just coach.

I think Keefe did a lot of good things throughout the regular season, and definitely helped make us a better team defensively. However, he got out-coached once again during the playoffs, this time to an interim coach. Whatever adjustments Montreal made in Game 5, 6, 7 Keefe had no answer. That and the lack of changes to the PP throughout the season really hurt us this series, and he definitely deserves some blame.

Keeping Matthews and Marner together for the full 7 game series, despite the rather obvious ineffectiveness of the results, was a perfect example of the "Inmates running the Asylum" and Keefe didn't want to upset the apple cart and hurt any feelings. We have seen these players turn on their coach when they don't get their way, despite everyone knowing the coach is the bench boss and one in charge.

Matthews and Marner wanted to play together and wanted lots and lots of ice time, and so Keefe is the perfect "yes man" coach to let them call their own shots, team results be damned, unless you mean regular season stats padding opportunities that is.

Keefe was badly outcoached last year against Torts, but although many knew he was the weakest link in Leafs success chain entering these playoffs, he apparently learned very little from past mistakes.

damn right you can argue the firing,,,,,,,,,,, are you nuts????????????????????

Dumbass gave into the spineless babies and here we are( the gutless ,overpaid babies run the show) with that MORON keefe failing to make the POs and then this putrid series.
