Rumors are the deal fell apart when Pacioretty wouldn't sign with the Kings.

Yep. From The Athletic:

As The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun reported, a trade with the Los Angeles Kings was in place in the days preceding the draft. It’s not known who would be coming back in such a deal, but we heard the name of Jake Muzzin possibly being involved in a package. However the trade was hinging on Pacioretty accepting a contract extension from the Kings and he didn’t do that. So the trade fell through.

If Muzzin was in the mix, I would say probably Muzzin + 2nd round pick, and possibly the Bear Jew.

If Toffoli was in the mix, I would say probably Toffoli + 2nd round pick, and the Bear Jew.

If it was strictly for prospects and picks, which would make the most sense to me, it was probably Vilardi and a 1st round pick. Going lower in the Kings prospect pool wouldn't have made much sense for Montreal, perhaps Kuperi, Clague and a 2nd round pick gets it done.

It doesn't take much to have a general idea, and no I wouldn't call these at opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of their value to the Kings. Just happy Pacioretty said, "NO DEAL!"

Tony Mariano (sp?) don't know how reliable he is, but he unequivocally said Toffoli and Vilardi were not in the deal, at all, were never offered.

And there is no way the Kings could have traded Kupari at the draft, they didn't draft him until THAT draft....rumor had it that pick was in play in that deal....but we have zero way of knowing that.

Sad day for me. After seeing the next two games on Stubhub at $7, along with the direction the team is headed, I have decided not to renew my season seats after 13 years. No way is it worth it to pay $50 a game per seat when I can buy the two seats right next to me on Stubhub for $7 each.

I remember Montreal’s main ask was a C prospect in return, which points to Suzuki being taken and Vilardi being the best comparable on the Kings.

This was all before Vilardi’s set backs and the drafting of Kupari or Kotkaniemi.

The only hangup on the deal was contract. He ended with VGK for $7m cap hit, 4 yrs, $28M. Pacioretty year by year breakdown: $10.5 M, $7 M, $5.25 M, $5.25 M plus limited no-trade clause.

Maybe the hold up was the fourth year? This contract kicks in next season.

So if Blake had sent say Vilardi, Pearson and this years 2nd for MP at that price, and not signed Kovalchuk, would the Kings be better for the future if they were a lottery team with Patches?

Wave good buy to Jack Hughes, and Kaako if this team keeps winning games. The Kings need these players more than Detroit, or Colorado. But its starting to look like they might not get either of these players.

Sucks to hear but you made a smart decision.

We ended ours as a family in 2012 when they raised prices in the first 2 rows upstairs. My pops ended up getting 2 in 2014 and has had them since but isnt renewing this season either. Since 1967 my family hasnt had seats only 4 years, in 83, 95, 96, and 13.

Pretty friggin’ cool your family has been there since the inception of the franchise with the exception of a few years.

Think of how many games you have taken in and all the things you have witnessed. Lots of cool stories I’m sure. Were you or a member of the family there for the “Miracle on Manchester”? That would have been pretty darn awesome.

Montreal asked for Clague. But I think I heard from TSN 690 that Blake said no. So not really sure what that trade would of looked like.

I was there with mom and pops as a wee little baby. My dad has some great stories from the 70s of partying with the players at the Melody Club in Inglewood.

I wonder how many Playboy Playmates were around a young Reaper during the Jerry Buss ownership era. Charlie Simmer was married to a former Playmate of the Year.
One of my favorite stories was being in the forum club and walking up to Tony Granato at a table full of women and him telling them to move over so I could slide in and get his autograph. My dad has killer stories about stuff I probably cant talk about on here. Best one I could probably say on here is Terry OReilly going after him in the tunnel at the Forum for reaching over the glass at him.

Ha, I do recall the glass back then being really low, which is probably how a chicken dressed in a purple cape was thrown on the ice.

Jerry Buss certainly wasn't shy to talk about his exploits. He collected women like Rob Blake collects draft picks.
JERRY IS NEVER BEHIND THE EIGHT BALL
No one walks when Buss asks girls to go dancing these days. He dates them by the dozen.
"When I have time, I date one for lunch and another for dinner every day," he says.
Indeed, just as he is ready to show anyone his stamp and coin collections, so is he quick to offer a look at his girl collection.
He brings out a thick photo album, which he pages through fondly, pointing at the pictures of myriad gorgeous young women.
He muses aloud, page after page, "She was Miss something or other.... This one is a model, what a beautiful woman.... This one is a Ram cheerleader.... This was a Playboy foldout.... This is possibly the most striking girl I've ever seen...." When the last page in the photo album is turned, Buss pulls out a shoe box filled with perhaps hundreds of snapshots of other young women he has gone out with.
"...This one was a foldout.... This one is an actress.... This one models bathing suits.... Rams cheerleader.... A foldout...."

I would like to see the Kings try and make a deal with NYI to get Ho Sang in the offseason. They don't seem to want to play the kid and while he has baggage, when he has played this year they have gone 9-1 . He is one of those guys who moves and facilitates. Their Average Goals Per Game is almost a full goal higher when he is in the lineup. He just seems to make other guys better.

Ho Sang fits with our plans because he is 23 and while he is an RFA, he seems to want to get out of that organization and could really flourish in a new environment. Maybe they can get him for a 3rd rounder.

It's one of the few moves where we can buy low and get a guy who can make an impact.

I honestly thought that deal was happening at the deadline, it seeemed to line up perfectly for both teams, Kovy 25% retained for Ho Sang and a 2nd

If Kovy is miserable down the stretch and the Isles go out early, I’m hoping that a deal is on in the summer just like you laid out.

The rumor was Pacioretty for Muzzin, Anderson-Dolan and the second round pick ultimately used on Akil Thomas.

AND... that deal would still have allowed the Kings to sign Kovalchuk.

It's just one of those deals that seems like it benefits both teams like you said. For us it's a moderate risk, high reward type of thing. It probably depends on the contract as well since he is an RFA.

Ho-Sang will get a bit of a bump from his current deal, nothing earth shattering. He would be a good target.

He's shown flashes in his brief time with the Islanders.

Blake better put away his surf board cause he has a lot of work to do.

"Fine, we'll work on player development instead."

I heard on a podcast speculation that Canes coach Rod the Bod is possibly the lowest paid head coach in all of NA pro sports. Amazing to think that Willie is cashing bigger checks.

Maybe BLuc takes a similar gamble and appoints Matt Greene as Kings head coach and Army as an assistant, and pay them combined what Willie gets now.

Grit, Energy, Budget.

Wave good buy to Jack Hughes, and Kaako if this team keeps winning games. The Kings need these players more than Detroit, or Colorado. But its starting to look like they might not get either of these players.

They lost 10 straight before Saturday. Plus there's the lottery, so there's no it's starting to look like they might not get either of them until the lottery results are known. They can win most of their games from now to the end and still get Hughes or Kakko. They can lose every remaining game 8-1 and get neither. Tanking ain't what it used to be.
