With Nashville probably doing a little roster shake up, how’s about we try to pry Josi, Ekholm, or Ellis away?

They will not move Ekholm, he’s on a beauty of a deal.

Josi is a UFA after next year and will look for mucho dinero.

Ellis has a new long term deal kicking in next year, $6.25 per for 8 years. He will be 29 midway through next season. I’m not sure I’d want to commit to him for that term/cost.

Barring any trades or UFA signings Doughty, A-Mart and Forbort are locks. I'm fine with letting MacDermid, LaDue, Phanuef and Walker/Roy rotate and compete for the last spots.
Stay the course and move impending FA out for assets at the deadline and get another top 5 pick.

Forbort - Doughty
Martinez - Walker/Roy
Coburn - Walker/Roy
MacDermid

Phaneuf - at home talking **** about how he's the best Dman on the Kings while drinking his beer...lol

If we're going to suck ass again, then we might as well give these guys up to the TDL to see what they have then trade away and maybe bring up some of the kids... I can see Clague, Anderson and Brickley getting some PT after the ASG, especially if we suck again or even if we trade an Amart, Forbort and/or Walker/Roy/LaDue

You're going to let Phaneuf sit at home, but bring in Coburn? Why? He's actually older than Phaneuf.

Isn't Moverare a nothingburger at this point?

Read an article recently that Kings should be pleased with his development this year and that he’s made huge strides and isn’t the same player that showed up in Sweden . I always liked and have seen over and over that it leads to more success when you allow your players to develop overseas . I think it was the right call and move to have him go develop in Sweden while still young . He might make it from what I’ve heard . Maybe solid bottom pair , maybe more ... to be determined

I would be surprised if Forbort is on the opening night roster. He is a UFA after this season, and with all the prospects we have on D, I can't see the Kings resigning him. He may not bring back much, but this is one piece of the rebuild that can be accelerated.

I think he could be another deadline deal.

Yeah, nobody needs Forbort in October. He's not even right handed, like McQuaid. There's nothing special about Forbort. He's just a LHD that doesn't score, who shouldn't be in your top 4. Every team is full of those guys. Somebody might take a chance on him whenever the deadline is for depth purposes.

Would a Martinez to TO for Kapanen make sense for both sides?

Gives us some needed speed on the wing.
Fills a need for the Leafs to replace Gardiner.

I also wouldn't mind bringing in Fantenberg for a few years.

I don't think Martinez gets us Kapanen. I would love it but even if LA retained 50% I do not think it is enough.

If we retain 50% 2 million for a top 4 D that can play both sides would benefit the Leafs. The add if any would be small IMO. I just feel we need to start thinking about making moves to get NHL talent and not only rely on picks that may never pan out.

martinez @50% for Kapanen I would be all over so that tells me it aint enough for the leafs. Maybe if he does not re-sign than something else goes back to Toronto to get them to sign off on it.
I think LA would be the one's adding.

I would rather move AMart for a younger top ceiling Defense prospect. The Kings can afford to take a guy that needs a couple more years and move AMart who can jump right into a top 2 for a contender. They can then go get a bridge guy as a UFA. At this point, the Kings need to acquire some guys who are playing well already in a system as well as picks. They don't have a Dman who you can really project to be a shutdown guy. Anderson could be that guy but they need more in the system.

I am not sure the Kings can get what you are asking for in a trade involving Martinez. At this point I am willing to trade Martinez at the draft in the best deal available and tough it out with guys like Walker, Roy, MacDermid, and LaDue next season.

I personally think we should just keep Martinez. He arguably has more value to the Kings than anyone else.

You still need NHL caliber defensemen in a rebuild. If you throw out Doughty and a bunch of kids, they’ll get torched every night, which will ruin confidence and stunt development. Need some kind of veteran presence, especially on the blue line.

Forbort is a better candidate to move, IMO. Grab a mid-low pick and be done with it. That leaves Doughty, Martinez, and Phaneuf as the veterans. Other three spots are up for grabs on a nightly basis depending on who is performing well.

Gonna get a better deal at deadline imo, so wait, unless you get a solid deal, don't settle when you have time to wait.
