I mean DT had the stones and the ok for a couple of major deals in Palffy and Allison.

Didn't the NHL force Jokinen into the deal too? Would have been even better.

DT's biggest problem was flaming out like DL and going for it but without success and with even greater scorched earth.

And before Palffy he had a deal lined up for Theo Fleury. But Fleury wouldnt re-sign.

Absolutely. The Kings wanted a marquee name when Staples Center opened. But god could you imagine if theyd acquired Palffy AND Fleury? Fleury is my all time favorite player.

I think it was an either or sort of thing, but yes that would have been unreal.

What's with all this trade Phaneuf and ____ for Edmonton #8 and Lucic?
Just buyout Dion. Don't want Lucic near this team, under any circumstances. If the Kings are clearly going to the 24-25 avg age, this means that Lewis and Carter should be gone too. Glad neither of their names came up at the TM conference. Other players names were mentioned and even Kovalchuk and TM said he planned to meet with him soon...maybe before he goes to the worlds? But MANY slots must open totally clear - like 4-5 and that would mean: Dion, Carter, Lewis for sure should be gone and possibly Martinez and Quick. This is not a trimming and keeping these players for a transition - they have made it clear they have a new plan. A new plan that is 24-25 years of age, quicker, more entertaining, more offense, new style. That cannot include Lewis and Carter for all of those reasons...and then add the KILLER quote from Blake: "we have to be better at 2nd center"...when he said that 2 times, NO WAY is he in the delusional camp "Carter rebounds". No way. If you have watched 3 or more playoff series, Carter could not skate or play in any of those games. He would be lost, coasting around even worse than this past regular season. He's done. Since no team wants him in any deal and Blake's ONLY named 1 SPECIFIC POSITION (its true) to be better (#2 CENTER) this means if a buyout is not the plan, waiving Carter is the plan. 1. Carter worst 2nd center in NHL and not rebounding 2. he will be 35 and Kings going to 24-25 age 3. does not fit in plans for faster, more exciting, more offense (he cannot score 5 on 5) 4. new coach; needs the team that will move forward with THE PLAN (77 not part of it) 5. ONLY SPECIFIC POSITION (go through all media stuff) Blake mentions must be better AT CENTER #2. 6. #1-5 more than seals this, 100%.

buying out dion makes no sense as there is no cap savings.

My uncle had a friend that used to attend games at the Great Western Forum and whenever Theo Fleury got pinned at his end of the ice he'd run up and start punching the spot on the glass where Fleury's face was pressed against then flip him off.

Just about every home game against Calgary for years on end he'd do that.

While I agree, no point in buying him out, if he becomes a problem they can probably send him home and buy him out next summer (a few teams did this to protect the player from getting hurt coming out of the lockout when they had compliance buyouts). However, their is some savings in buying him out because Ottawa would assume 25% of the money.

The only spots that are open on this team are the bottom 6, bottom d pairing and the LW on the top line.. This team is likely rolling as is and I expect trades in season as players have bounce back seasons (hopefully)

After the season they just had the only guy who's job should be safe is Kyle Clifford.

I'd trade him as well... at this point we have our big contract guys that are likely to be untradable so that leaves the bottom 6 as the battle ground for open roster spots

Nice, any chances we see him in dev camp this summer?

He’ll definitely be there. It’s nice to see some blueliners in the pipeline who may compete for top 4-5 spots in the near future with Anderson, Clague, Phillips and Durzi.

Eventually, they need these guys to replace the likes of Martinez and Forbort (no need to mention Phaneuf, a broom can replace him).

So awesome. Agreed! I bet he makes the team out of camp.
