Correct me if im wrong but i don't think blue jackets have a first for this or next years draft

depends of if the re-sign Duchene.

Good thing they have the flames 7th huh

I believe the buy out hit to LA would only be on LA's portion. Ottawa would still be hit with Dion's retention of $1.75M for the next 2 years regardless of when or if LA buys out Dion

As bad as Dion has been.. would any team looking for a big, physical Vet be interested in him if we also retain the same amount Ott did?

Then it’s not worth it considering the Cap Hit In year 2-3 are $5 mill

Edit: correction that’s just for year 2... maybe it is worth it
you can change the year of buy out to after next year and then it is more reasonable and have the length.

Only save $250K year one and then lose $1M in cap in 21-22, but if LA needs the roster spot or if Dion becomes a dick in the room as he maybe pissed about being scratched all the time, I could see it. Otherwise we ride the Dion waive till his deal is done.

Quick doesn't have any trade value. He has negative value.

He was the worst starting goaltending in the entire NHL this year.

Maybe if he turns it around next season, but until then he can't be moved unless it's for someone like Lucic, or your giving away a significant asset like a 1st to go along with him.

This is spot on.
Only way we get him is if someone worse comeback. I still think a Quick for Darling + deal could make sense. However if I am Carolina I explore other options first

We can retain more than Ottawa and I doubt it. Would love it if they did though.
I just think there’s resentment among the players with how badly he plays and the things he says that would have led to the benching of other players but not this dope... this team played much better when he was off the ice! Yes Carter and Toffoli sucked but no one was a bigger detriment to the teams success than Dion Phaneuf!

I hate Dion and think he brings the team down but this seems too harsh.

Forget the sucky play.. his penalties in crucial moments cost us at least a dozen games.. I kid you not YP!
Any other coach benches Dion, Jeff and Tyler but not good old WD40.. it causes rifts in the locker room, think Yasiel Puig and the Dodgers or what happened with the Lakers this past season..

Adding Quick to that CBJ defense all but guarantees the playoffs... health permitting of course. You’re also wrong in assuming the Kong’s are desperate! With TMac, the structure he brings might actually motivate the Vets to step the **** up which in turn would make them much desirable.. The problem with this scenario is that if the Vets step up and rebound.. does the FO take advantage?? Do we keep everyone hoping for a playoff run???
Sorry for the mixed replies that are all over the place but I think once/if these guys rebound they need to be moved...

I mean desperate in terms of the roster. Quick, Campbell, and Petersen. One is 33 and signed for 4 years, one is a UFA next year looking to finally make some money after a wasted career, and one will already be 25 in Oct, and is a RFA this summer. That's a difficult situation. That's internal pressure that every other GM can see. What comes first, a Quick trade, or a new contract for Petersen? If Petersen signs for say 3 years, is Campbell going to re-sign? What if Petersen gets an offer sheet before Quick goes? If Quick can't be realistically dealt, does Petersen go to Ontario at 25 years of age? Do you screw Campbell by sending him down? Do you try and sell high on Campbell, or on the potential of Petersen? 3 goalies on the NHL roster won't work, so that's not an option. That's the desperation.

No their not but a goalie with the ability to still steal a series is invaluable to a team like CBJ. Also adding a Toffoli helps add some scoring punch to a team that’s likely losing Panarin! Depending how far they get, they could become a win now team

Why does Cbus want TT? If you look at my post from a few pages ago, I outlined the top 6 wingers they project to have next year minus Breadman.

They also have a few kids coming that project to be top 6 wingers.

They don’t trade for TT for one year and/or to be in their bottom 6. They would pass on him.

Depending on how/what they sell Petersen, he’s signing for no more than 2 years.. why continue to wait.. also, if a team does an offer sheet, We’d get compensation. I doubt he leaves for anything less than $2 mill.. If Quick stays then we might need to trade him
Campbell likely gets dealt if Quick cannot be moved or if Petersen gets a crazy offer sheet like you mentioned then he stays.

You can never have too much offense, especially with such a good, young defense.

He scratched Dion down the stretch oddly once Muzzin got traded seemed to happen more and more. My point was just there are a lot of people to share the blame to the King's crappy season. WD40 being a key one fore me.

If you can't trade Quick, you probably have to move Campbell, but I wouldn't expect much in return. If Blake does manage to move Quick, then you are probably looking at trading Campbell or Petersen withing the next few years.

The most valuable might be Petersen, because of potential, but yeah, Campbell isn't bringing too much back. At least it's trading high on an asset though. If they find a way to get rid of Quick this summer, Campbell is likely gone by this time next year anyway. If they trade Campbell this summer, Quick is the #1 at $7m next year, and Petersen gets in the 30 or so backup games. Then the older Quick gets, the more games Petersen plays the following year.

A lot depends on what kind of years Petersen gets in his contract. A lot would also be easier if DL hadn't handed Quick a 10 year deal to cheat the cap.

I believe both are eligible for the expansion draft next year so, yeah you are trading one or making a side deal with Seattle in order to ensure you retain both.

Should have happened sooner, the kids should have played more and guys like Kopitar and Doughty should have played a lot less minutes... terrible season all around, here’s hoping some structure and best players play led to some nice turn around for this squad. I’d hate for the young guys to be around a losing culture again

How does that add up? Usually the team trying to get out of a contract is the team adding. Just because Columbus is gaining cap space after this season doesn't mean they want to waste any of it. None of their potential bad contracts are as long as Quick's, so, even if the Kings took one back, they won't come out ahead. If I'm another GM, I'm pushing to get Quick as cheaply as I can. It's the Kings that are the desperate team. Quick is 33 and signed for 4 years, Campbell is a UFA next year, and Petersen is a RFA this summer.
It doesnt. He said what would you hope to get out of it and that was my response. That was my hope. Not likely to happen of course.
