Then they should listen if they get a deal that is sweet enough.
Pretty hilarious though to be talking about Kovy as a cap dump. What a self-inflicted wound at this point.
Plexico Blake
There was never another option if it wasn't going to last. He was never going to be an asset. It was trying to give the veterans another chance, and just like a few years ago, the veterans let the GM down again. And let this one down like 1000% earlier than the last time.
So many things have to come together for this to be an issue anyway. First, he has to want to leave LA. Second, another team has to want him, at whatever hit, likely for 2 more seasons. Third, he has to want to go to the teams that want him. Easy to say ship him to Edmonton, but it's Edmonton. If they were a Kovalchuk away from winning, they would be much closer to winning already.
The deal was Phaneuf and what ended up to be a years worth of Nate Thompson for MG. Lucic is like 5 years younger than Kovy, not subject to any 35+ yo cap penalty. That’s could be argued as value returned to the Kings before the pot is sweetened to make up for the extra 3 yrs, $17.5m.
If that deal was Kovy for Lucic, 2019 first and Bear, you’d have to consider it if it looks like Kovy is going to flee. When hasn’t Blake kicked the can down the road and if he did and it turned out bad, well he most likely won’t be around to deal with the fall out.
A few weeks ago?
Kovalchuk can't flee. The only place he can go is back to Russia. If he even hints at doing that again, what team is trading for any guaranteed cap hit for the next 2 years?
I think IK will get his signing bonus this summer, will be back come Sept, play under the new coach, and then see if he wants to keep going. If he has a productive year next year, maybe the Kings can trade him in the summer of 2020 to 1 of the 7 teams of his choosing, at 50%. Maybe at the deadline next year if all things went perfectly. I think there will be a lot less change to this roster over the next 10 months or so than most of us would want to see.
