Then they should listen if they get a deal that is sweet enough.

Pretty hilarious though to be talking about Kovy as a cap dump. What a self-inflicted wound at this point.

Plexico Blake

There was never another option if it wasn't going to last. He was never going to be an asset. It was trying to give the veterans another chance, and just like a few years ago, the veterans let the GM down again. And let this one down like 1000% earlier than the last time.

So many things have to come together for this to be an issue anyway. First, he has to want to leave LA. Second, another team has to want him, at whatever hit, likely for 2 more seasons. Third, he has to want to go to the teams that want him. Easy to say ship him to Edmonton, but it's Edmonton. If they were a Kovalchuk away from winning, they would be much closer to winning already.

The deal was Phaneuf and what ended up to be a years worth of Nate Thompson for MG. Lucic is like 5 years younger than Kovy, not subject to any 35+ yo cap penalty. That’s could be argued as value returned to the Kings before the pot is sweetened to make up for the extra 3 yrs, $17.5m.

If that deal was Kovy for Lucic, 2019 first and Bear, you’d have to consider it if it looks like Kovy is going to flee. When hasn’t Blake kicked the can down the road and if he did and it turned out bad, well he most likely won’t be around to deal with the fall out.

A few weeks ago?

Kovalchuk can't flee. The only place he can go is back to Russia. If he even hints at doing that again, what team is trading for any guaranteed cap hit for the next 2 years?

I think IK will get his signing bonus this summer, will be back come Sept, play under the new coach, and then see if he wants to keep going. If he has a productive year next year, maybe the Kings can trade him in the summer of 2020 to 1 of the 7 teams of his choosing, at 50%. Maybe at the deadline next year if all things went perfectly. I think there will be a lot less change to this roster over the next 10 months or so than most of us would want to see.

Oh, if there is a 1st and Bear attached I could see it potentially happening. I thought you were talking about a 1 for 1.

Sturm is thought to be maybe the most polished and NHL ready. The lower level teams should be the most attractive to these FA’s because they can get a faster track to the NHL if ready.

There are a lot of articles on Sturm. The guy is someone who can play in the NHL and contribute. If they signed him, it’s a very good signing that costs nothing but money and the upside is pretty good.

I started a thread on the trade boards of Dion vs Alzner to see what perception on who is worse would be, and then determine what could be added to worse player for trade. Before it was shut down every poster said Alzner's deal is worse.

Wold anyone here consider Alzner + for Dion? What would the + need to be and what would it realistically be?

To add an unnecessary 3rd year before the contract is over? I don't know the prospect situation for Montreal, so I'm guessing it would have to be a 1st. It wouldn't be any young player contributing for them right now. Doesn't seem like they'll be in any cap predicaments soon.

Anything less than that, and there would be no point for the Kings. Better to just be done with the bad contract earlier.

fair POV. I just question if Alzner should actually not be playing in the NHL. Take salaries out of it and I think Alzner>Dion by a wide margin but one guy is not in the league so it is hard for me to have a leg to stand on with that.

1) Sturm was my top choice to sign. Perfect 3C
2) Don't know much about Craggs but a Bowling Green guy so you know Blake will be in on him.
3) Alec Rauhauser LHD from Bowling Green is someone they should also look at.

P.S. how credible is the writer if he says Fantenberg sign to LA as a college free agent.

I wouldn't say it's a credible source given the fact that the link directs to a report from Jon Rosen. It's another one of those sites that piggyback off of the information shared by legit sources.

Ik you guys probably want to keep Kopi and Doughts and try to build along them and the top 2 pick you have... But what if you slide down to 3 or 4?

What if a desperate team (like my Oilers) threw a bunch of good young assets at you for Doughty... Would you move him? (Ik the answer is most likely no but its worth asking).
I'd give up something like this:

Bouchard + 1st + 2021 1st + Puljujarvi + Yamamoto + Lucic + Sekera (500k retained)

A blue chip RD prospect, a top 10 pick, another 1st, two b+ RW prospects that bring the speed you want, and two cap dumps that even out the money in and out and will be off the books by the time your rebuild is over.

so ur saying 8 pieces for drew ummm not realistic at all

Maybe this years 1st, next years 1st (with protections), Bouchard and a veteran throw-in to make the money work.
If that cap throw in was Lucic I'd strongly think about it.

I'd do that for Kopitar. I'd make them really hurt if they wanted Doughty.
That does already really hurt. Idk if I'd do it simply because we'd have traded away all our tradeable high end assets, would have literally no cap space left and completely shit forward depth.

But for a guy like Doughty, it might be worth it.

Ok ok, Draisaitl and Lucic no retention he just waives his NMC for Kopitar and Carter.
