Healthy scratch is Mario Kempe , have feeling he is going to be the extra forward this year . Provide energy time to time .
From Blake’s comments I think Clague makes it and is given every opportunity to prove he belongs . The kid was going to be brought up last year over others if he wasn’t injured . This will be the best year for him to get minutes and earn some NHL experience . I think he surprises honestly and there isn’t much better choices than him atm
Clague just finished his 1st year pro, and just turned 21. They've got Martinez, Forbort, Ryan on one way deals as LHD, plus MacDermid has to pass through waivers to get sent down. Doughty will play whatever minutes he plays. You have to find out about LaDue. There's Walker and Roy. Clague has time. He's not going anywhere anytime soon. If he's in the AHL for another year, it's ok. He won't be 22 until after the season. With Forbort, LaDue, and Ryan all very likely gone after this season, maybe Martinez is out at some point too, he will have more than enough room to make the team full time in Sept 2020. There's no reason to rush him, just have a young guy on the team. They have plenty of roster filler for what is likely a throwaway year.
Amadio is probably going to be on the team too. There's probably not a lot left, but there still might be some potential there, and he has to clear waivers. If the option is there, you'd rather have him as the 4th C, as opposed to Lewis, because Lewis isn't a C. Not that Lewis playing out of position really matters in a season like the one coming up, but it's time to find out about Amadio.
A lot will depend on if they keep 22 or 23 guys on the active roster. I believe they went with 22 a lot last year, because the farm team is so close now, and it also probably saved a couple bucks. Do they go 13 or 14 forwards? Do they go 7 or 8 D? They're putting Petersen in Ontario, so it might not be crazy to say they could put a guy like Grundstrom there to start the year too. Won't be 22 until Dec. He has also only played one full year of pro hockey. The good thing is that some of these prospects are on the younger side, so the luxury of times does possibly exist.
