On Kupari...

Gauging Rasmus Kupari as an elite prospect and his timetable...

He has only been available to local reporters in two development camps, and he has come across as humble, polite and unwilling to make grandiose statements about his personal goals.

“I think I’ll just try to enjoy the summer and work hard and then, when I arrive here and it starts, then I’ll think that more,” Kupari said at the 2019 development camp when asked about making the NHL. “But now I feel just I have to work hard and enjoy summer in Finland.”

Alright, I like this. Would have been nice for him to spend the summer in LA, but his head seems to be in the right place. Who knows, maybe he can revive Kopitar's game a little down the line. Maybe there could be a new Kup-a-Loop with Kupari on the receiving end.

One of the best highlights during this Kings era (not including Playoff heroics/cup wins.)

Lombardi probably had a reasonable gamble that they could spin Bishop's rights before July 1st. Trading him to Dallas netted a 4th which became Markus Phillips, so LA didn't come out completely empty handed.

Unconventional trade for sure, but it's easy to forget that there weren't a ton of rental wingers that deadline, plus Budaj was faltering down the stretch, nobody was sure how much Quick could handle coming off an injury, and GMs might make short sighted decisions if they know their job is on the line.

The problem was, he made the deal 2 months too late. It was petty obvious
Budaj wasn't going to carry this team and Zatkoff flat out suck to the point where he wouldn't be put in even during a 7-0 blowout.

The problem for Lombardi was that 2 months earlier, Quick was still months away from coming back, and TB was hanging around in the standings just like the Kings were, so he would've been even more desperate to make a deal as a buyer. That's why he didn't do anything when it came out that Quick was going to be out almost the entire season. In the cap world, it's pretty much live with whatever you've got, and then see where you are come the deadline.

Danton Heinen just signed for 2 years, 2.8M AAV. Pretty good comparable for Iafallo, expecting him to sign a similar deal.

Hopefully better LWs come along internally over the next couple of years to knock Iafallo down in the lineup. I like him as a depth player who can score, but not so much in a top six role on one of the worst offensive teams in the league.

And so I'm clear, I agree with you guys. I don't think he should be a first liner, but a middle sixer, pref. bottom sixer on a great team, but it's more than nice that he CAN play up there in big minutes and has shown chemistry with our best forward who, over the years, has had little to no chemistry with most players (Williams, Brown, Smyth...that's about it that I can recall).

Sanford isn't a top 6 player either but he energized the Blues top line and they were great against Boston. Not every forward playing in your top 6 needs to be a legit offensive threat.

Official release.

If he continues to get top six minutes, his numbers better improve. Iafallo produced Dwight King like numbers when King was the same age (24-25). You need better numbers than that if you're playing with Kopitar and Brown.

That would be nice to have that luxury, until you realize who was one of the worst teams in producing goals. The Kings were one of two teams that scored less than 200 goals, the other being the Ducks. You can't say "not every forward has to be a legit offensive threat" when they barely have any and are paying one to play top six minutes.

It's not Iafallo's fault if he's on the 1st line.

That's why we're hoping better options comes along, or he produces better numbers if he's put in that spot again. I like him as a player, just wish he produced more consistently, which is what we are also constantly saying about Kempe, among others who are counted on to score goals but continuously disappoint us (Toffoli).

Wagner saw much less ice time and appeared in 20 less games and scored 12 goals in 62 games. Iafallo netted just three more goals playing on the top line in 82 games.

Good stop gap for now. I don't think he's a first line LW, like most, but he can fill in until a prospect actually fits in there.
