Even if he signed a reasonable deal? I really don't know much about Gardiner to be honest, I know hes offensively focused, is his D worse than whoever we will have in the 3/4 spot for the next couple of years?

I don't think he will be signing for reasonable dollars with the premium for defenseman when it comes to the silly season. Someone will shell out big cake on a long term deal for him, I'd prefer if it was not the Kings.

He's going to be 29 come early July.

I’d be ok with Gardiner if it meant Forbort being shipped out. However if it’s true gardiner wants 6-7 mil a year...screw that...

I'd be shocked if the Kings didnt sign a vet d, but I'm guessing next season because I fully anticipate Martinez moving this season.

in my opinion no, Gardiner's defensive abilities are better than whomever LA has in the 3/4 for the next couple. However come next year hopefully not by a lot and just timing is wrong for a long term UFA deal.

Was anyone expecting a draft day trade like this?

Unfortunately, there is no Demitra type forward the Kings have to move. Although he was 31 at the time, he was coming off a season scoring 25 goals and 62 points in 58 games. Those numbers would have led the Kings in goals and points in 2019.

Plus we're 14 years deep into the complexities of the cap now. I doubt you'd see that same trade today.

That was a big ****ing 'I'M HERE *****ES!' by Dean Lombardi. Insane.

Too bad Patty O didn't last. Same goes for Mike Richards and Slava Voynov.

+Gaborik.

Gardner is also just about the only defenseman in free agency. He may want to come here, but he's not coming here.

I know its unlikely but maybe Gardiner wants to play in LA and wouldnt be asking for 7x7 or maybe no one is offering him that. What would you think if the Kings offered something like 5 X 5.5?

+Gaborik.

Gaborik was already the glass man. Voynov and Richards had a lot more gas in the tank (apparently not Richards).

Gaborik was only suppose to be a deadline deal and a piece that got us over the hump, and should have never been rewarded with a long contract. But hindsight is 20/20 and DL is no longer at the helm.

If it did not come with a NMC so we did not have to auto-protect for expansion sure. I doubt he would sign it and I imagine most of LA's D will not require protection anyway.

ABSOLUTE NOOOOOOO to Gardiner. His defensive gaps come at very in-opportune times and overall he is not good defensively. He will be massively overpaid and his contract will be terrible in a few years. The amount of frustration he would present on here for our fans would be more then any player we have seen before.

On another note, anyone have information on Ryan Hartman? Traded yet again, this time to Dallas for Tyler Pitlick whose of no account. From my limited time watching him I liked what he brought as a 3rd line guy who could hit, fight, play heavy but also score. Is he a hated guy? Why being traded so much?

I posted the same question about Hartman in the Around the league thread.

Since Doughty, LaDue, Roy, Walker are all righties, I could see Blake signing a cheap LHD for a year or two as depth. Especially if they plan on moving Amart or Forbort. Welcome back Fantenberg?

That's the only UFA move I could seeing be made. Gonna be a long summer.

The Kings would have to go the Scuderi route, which was to give what appeared to be an over payment and definitely too much term for a 30 1/2 year old coming off of a $750K a year contract.

Even then, Scuderi was coming off of a Cup so he had that success already. Plus, he bought in to what DL was selling for the future which was a lot easier to do based on the Kings roster heading in to 2010 (made the playoffs) as opposed to the current state of things.

All of this is to say: Why the f*** would anyone want to come here outside of an over payment in term, money or both and why the f*** should Blake do that?

You want a veteran D for next year? We are talking Luke Schenn territory.

I expect Amart and Toffoli to be moved by the deadline next season so they need to find guys to fill those gaps. I don’t want albatross contracts though so I agree that we are looking at lower tier options.

I feel we are looking at another Top 10 pick as well so we might as well be positioned to spend more money when our team is ready to take the next step.
