Rumor: Planning Ahead: 2019 Off-Season Part 2

I hope Doughty and Martinez take Clague under their wing in training camp and show the kid how offensive players defend. Clague can get you points, is a great skater and competes hard in front of the net, but has struggled controlling the rush where I have players fly by him.

I posted this in the Björnfot thread but it’s better here...

I’m not suggesting we put him (Björnfot) in but this guy wouldn’t be the worst Defenseman on our opening night roster. We should obviously develop him properly but we’ve let our blue line standards slip.

We have a whole bunch of guys best suited in 5-7 roles, in part because that’s their ceiling and in part because we are still developing them. We can argue that Martinez is a #4 (just) but it means we have glaring vacancies at 2 and 3.

We have people thinking taking someone at #22 that is projected as a sure fire 3/4 guy is too high. Yet he is more ready than anyone in our system to play that role today, to fill what is a glaring hole in our system. He is quite likely to be a solid consistent #3, the player we wanted Muzzin to be. One more year in Sweden and he will step straight in as doing so now (ignoring his contract) isn’t right for his development.

Forbert will take one of the roles on opening night whilst Roy and Walker will likely take 2 more spots. So that leaves 2 more.

We still have people thinking LaDue can do a job for us, come on really? He’s fit for waiving at this point. His time has passed and wishful thinking won’t change that. That development time is far better spent seeing where we are with Anderson, Clague and Brinkley. Hopefully one can take an opening night spot with MacD there as the #7. The other two are then left in Ontario battling it out to be first call up.

I am jealous of Carolina buying a first round pick. Very shrewd of them.

The Dion buy out opened up enough space for LA to do this and I am choked they did not. Pick up Marleau, buy him out and get another first.

I dont think they liked the idea of having to pay Marleau for the next two season while he helps a rival...

it's a +35 contract so buyout cap hit would only be for this year only, and i hope it has nothing to do with the Sharks as the kings are not going to be competing with them this year, and if the sharks want to use what limited cap space they have left to sign what is left of Marleau by all means. Not saying Marleau does not have a place in the league and I know he will sign at a discount for the sharks, just that they have other needs.

Was anyone expecting a draft day trade like this?

Unfortunately, there is no Demitra type forward the Kings have to move. Although he was 31 at the time, he was coming off a season scoring 25 goals and 62 points in 58 games. Those numbers would have led the Kings in goals and points in 2019.

on a different not I just read LeBrun's latest article on the athletic. He talks about How hard Luke Schenn is working to try and stay in the league. For a team like LA with so many holes on D how would most feel about signing him to a 1 year show me deal. I imagine most will be saying he would take a roster spot from a kid and no thank you based on his last tour of duty here. However I think LA should also try and shelter the young D a little bit especially as this will likely be a lost season, and he would cost low enough I imagine his contract could be buried in the AHL (assuming waiver clearance), or best case scenario he looks like a better player and LA can deal him at the deadline.

Jets may lose Trouba and Myers.

Buff is already 34 and they need D help to continue to keep their window open.

If they can rid themselves of Kulikov, I think they retain Myers.

They have Tucker Poolman and Sami Niku in house both could be full time guys for them next season. They did acquire Pionk as part of the Trouba deal so there's another guy for them on the backend.

I don't think they would have an issue dealing Kulikov and his salary if they could find a partner.

I'm sure they would have some interest in retaining Chiarot who is a UFA. I thought he was pretty solid in his role last season for the Jets.

I still dont understand why we didnt just resign Christian Folin? he 's a better player than Schenn ..
But I woulod really be looking at moving Toffoli for Justin Faulk.. Pair him with Doughty and watch him excel in time to cash in at the TDL..

I get this feeling that the older guys will rebound and regain some much needed value.. the question is, if we are in the playoff hunt or even a playoff bound team... Does Blake sell high and speed up the rebuilt/retool/whatever the hell this is?? or does he add???
Personally, I would sell and add young NHL players or near NHL ready guys...

I still think he would sell, only way he wouldn't is if ownership told him he had to try to get into the playoffs to get some home game revenue rolling in. I would hope ownership would understand that in 2 or 3 years we may be going perennially deep and bringing in way more revenue then just 2 or 3 home games and getting bounced in the first round.

Really though... with the way our D is shaping up, i don't think its even a slight possibility in the upcoming season. We likely see Lewis, Toffoli, Clifford and Martinez gone (maybe Amart stays if hes on board to be a vet leader on D with Doughty and signs a team friendly extension).

That was a big f***ing 'I'M HERE BITCHES!' by Dean Lombardi. Insane.

Too bad Patty O didn't last. Same goes for Mike Richards and Slava Voynov.

I'd prefer if this were not true.

Even if he signed a reasonable deal? I really don't know much about Gardiner to be honest, I know hes offensively focused, is his D worse than whoever we will have in the 3/4 spot for the next couple of years?
