PL Dubois opens up about his ambitions, insight, and how he landed in Los Angeles.

"changed the course' may be strong. However, it did show the org. was planning to stay competitive rather than taking only futures in return. Vilardi is going to be good. Iafallo brings a very much needed 200 foot game and high compete to the Jets top 9. Kupari and the 2nd could be impactful.

And of course, the desire to compete now was cemented when they signed their #1 C and a Vezina calibre goalie to long term contracts.

Both would have gotten more $ as UFA's.

Contracts are fine for the next 5 years. Also, refutes the notion the jets cannot sign important free agents. Hellebucyk in particular, an American pending UFA at the top of his game stayed in Winterpeg.
I can see Helly getting more because one GM will inevitably always overpay for a good goalie. (It generally does not work out well)

Don't see it with Scheifele, though.

1. If Mark Scheifele is an elite player, there are a lot of elite players in the league.

2. Goalies specifically have famously aged well into their mid to late 30s. :sarcasm:

3. Today I learned that players such as Namestnikov, Kupari, and Neidereitter are "Huge upgrades".
Scheif was 11th in goals scored last year putting him about the top 3% of the league. Maybe not elite by your standards but thats pretty good.

The jets have their most balanced roster in years and it will show on the ice.

“metropolitan lifestyle where he doesn't have to worry about hockey”

Oh boy. If playing hockey for millions of dollars per year is so inconvenient and stressing for him, he’s not going to be the positive driving force you expect at that AAV. Keeping him motivated will be a nightmare with the slightest hardship, which definitely spells toxicity in an NHL locker room. Remember MacKinnon’s drive to win, the work ethic he expected from his team and contrast it here. Yeesh.
If he doesn’t want to “worry about hockey” im wondering why tf he’s an NHL player then lmao

Happy he's a Queen. Will be a mistake similar to keeping Clarke and trading Faber.

I'll suffice that with the Jackets are my team in the East going to OSU, he's always left a bad taste in my mouth personality wise.

Because he found out at a young age that he was good at so it's a career to pursue, not because he has passion for the game

A lot of guys are like this. He is just open about it.

Me too.
Makes me mad at Chevy. How could he not know this before trading for him AND overpaying?

His friggin dad is a coach in the organization. He must have know what PLD wanted deep down. Just ask him, hey employee, we are thinking of trading our highest ever draft pick for your son. Do you think he would love to live in Winnipeg?

"Young Socialite" Pierre-Luc Dubois.

You ever seen his instagram? Dude posts like a socialite/influencer

“metropolitan lifestyle where he doesn't have to worry about hockey”

Did he mean like there isn't much pressure? LA makes sense then since theres a glut of sports teams and hockey isn't the #1 show in town. I can see why ehe choose them over Montreal, where he would 100% have to worry about hockey and also be hounded by the media 24/7.

Yeah, folks are forgetting that hockey is simply a job to these guys. They haven't signed a sacred oath to the Religion of Hockey where everything is hockey 24/7/365 like some monks stuck on a Nepal mountaintop. The rest of the time when they are not practicing or playing is their own, and they have the same right as everybody else to be happy in their lives. If living in LA makes him happy for whatever reason, then power to him and power to anybody else who makes a move so that they are more happy.

Dude give me $68 million in SoCal and I'll never complain for the rest of my life

So he signs with a team with a 3-4 year window as a wildcard team whose prospects have all busted? It doesn't add up. I hate to say it but Boston would have been the play if he wanted everything he was asking for. Their stars are still in their prime except Marchand and should be for another 6-8 years. Even the Rangers would be a great fit and most of their players are anonymous in street clothes. Dallas would have been a better fit too if they could jettison Seguin.

I would guess weather and money were more important or nobody else wanted him at anything close to what LA paid in assets and cap.

Holy hot take Batman.

Meh, decent player, just acts too entitled, hopefully now that he is where he supposedly wants to be he can buckle down and work hard for the team rather than providing off-ice distractions.

This. He's acting entitled when every other player in the NHL has to to go through the exact same process. This has all been negotiated between the NHLPA and the NHL. But apparently he's too good for that.

It would be one thing if say he had family that has some medical issues and he wanted to be closer(or some valid reason to not be where he was drafted) other than... well I didn't like where I was drafted and I get to choose in 3 years where I get to play but that's not soon enough so I want to pick now.

Could you imagine what would happen to smaller city teams if all hockey players demanded these same things?

It would probably destroy the league. That’s why you shouldn’t allow players to do things Iike this for these reasons.

This is something the CBA tries to protect against, letting teams retain their talent/players.

This is a douchey POS attitude because it’s entirely selfish without any regard to the fans and teams whose very existence allows you to participate at all in the NHL.

Dubois is a small minded and selfish asshole. He can live wherever he wants when his career is over, he’s not going to work until he’s 65. He can retire at 30-35 if he wants and do whatever he wants.

Not a lot of people I’d say I dislike, but I dislike Dubois for this attitude

If I’m at an accounting firm and can choose my destination you bet your f***ing ass I will.

Am I lucky and grateful to have gone through school and land a job, and was my goal to just make it there in this hypothetical? Yeah.

But put yourself in a position to be able to choose and execute that right, should be no shame in that at any level of work.

Just makes him seem pretty normal and vapid. Not a bad guy, just boring. Jets are better off without him, honestly. And if I was him I also would probably rather live in LA than Winnipeg, and I'm from there.

Playing in the NHL is a privilege. You are the 1% of 1%. It's not comparable to a regular job. He agreed the terms and conditions when he signed his contract. And then bitched and moaned his way out.
