PL Dubois opens up about his ambitions, insight, and how he landed in Los Angeles.

That was a tough article to read as the author unnecessarily went back and forth in time so much. Like it can be a useful tool when writing when it adds something. And it did here when it started in his childhood. But then jumped back and forth randomly for giggles after that.

Bad writing

1. If Mark Scheifele is an elite player, there are a lot of elite players in the league.

2. Goalies specifically have famously aged well into their mid to late 30s. :sarcasm:

3. Today I learned that players such as Namestnikov, Kupari, and Neidereitter are "Huge upgrades".
Every gm in the league would have handed out those contracts to Scheifele and Hellebuyck. All those other players replaced players who are not in nhl right now. Only Wheeler is and he already got benched in 2nd game. Bottom line jets are a deeper team thanks to pld.

It's really cheap and worth it. Especially if you're into multiple sports.
not really ... i focus my sports watching to only hockey .. i'll watch highlights of other sports .. but i feel i spend enough time already on just hockey lol .. I only have so much love and hate to spread around ...

Plan the parade!

And yes, every team in the league would throw $8.5M/year at an already declining Scheifele until he's 38...

So he signs with a team with a 3-4 year window as a wildcard team whose prospects have all busted? It doesn't add up. I hate to say it but Boston would have been the play if he wanted everything he was asking for. Their stars are still in their prime except Marchand and should be for another 6-8 years. Even the Rangers would be a great fit and most of their players are anonymous in street clothes. Dallas would have been a better fit too if they could jettison Seguin.

I would guess weather and money were more important or nobody else wanted him at anything close to what LA paid in assets and cap.

There are players that are worth every penny working like a dog for the win and there are PLDs, Panarins, Matthews... How can these guys manage to get top money from the teams is beyond my understanding.

wait do all ya'll have a athletic subscription? or are people just commenting without reading the article ... or am i the only cheap guy in here lol
It shows the article for a couple of seconds before the subscription thing comes up.
You can Ctrl-A/Ctrl-C pretty quick then paste the article into notepad.
There are more thorough ways to bypass paywalls but this method is pretty reliable.

Who said anything about a parade. As far as scheifele is concerned. Go look at his peers in his 2011 draft class. Look at their salary and when their contracts expire. All around the same age. He is right in line. Even under paid. Has elite speed and shot. 42 goals is declining. J h christ.

Thank you!

I 100% agree with him!!! I have nothing against Winnipeg but if you're not from there and are a coveted young player and can pick your favorite out of 32 nice cities I don't know why you would ever choose Winnipeg and I don't know why people let things like getting drafted by them or traded there get in the way of having a slightly better life living in a nicer city. You only get one life how about you live the best one you can? I think signing an extension with Columbus was a mistake(but wasn't so bad since he only played 5 games anyway) and wasting 3 years in Winnipeg was also a mistake.

All of Huberdeau/Gaudreau/Zibanejad/Miller peaked much higher than Scheifele and end at an earlier age.

... And I'd say outside Zibanejad, none of them were heralded as great contract signings.

Also, if we're not expecting a parade, and we're declaring the "Rebuild cancelled" what were y'all going for here? Perennial wild-card contender?

This was a really good interview starting at 10:50. Only Torts would think PL is too long of a nickname and call him Luc instead

Spam the esc button as the page is loading and it removes the paywall lol

Err... I guess that 2024 2nd better turn into a superstar if Dubois trade changed the course of the Jets lol.

I'm all for bagging on PLD, but the Jets were already in bad shape, and those Scheifele and Hellebuyck contracts were ugly before the ink dried.
"changed the course' may be strong. However, it did show the org. was planning to stay competitive rather than taking only futures in return. Vilardi is going to be good. Iafallo brings a very much needed 200 foot game and high compete to the Jets top 9. Kupari and the 2nd could be impactful.

And of course, the desire to compete now was cemented when they signed their #1 C and a Vezina calibre goalie to long term contracts.

Both would have gotten more $ as UFA's.

Contracts are fine for the next 5 years. Also, refutes the notion the jets cannot sign important free agents. Hellebucyk in particular, an American pending UFA at the top of his game stayed in Winterpeg.

TL;DR He wants to live the metropolitan lifestyle where he doesn't have to worry about hockey, wants to impress his starry eyed family, doesn't want to be part of a rebuild, and wants to be happy for all 8 years instead of just 3 years.

Better hope that LA can keep him happy then.
A lot of guys are like this. He is just open about it.
I respect him. He wants to live a certain lifestyle and ensured that would happen, whether it was in LA, Montreal or another big city. Don't get the hate.
Me too.
