Perfect. Pld is now on a team that his mediocrity as a player wont make any difference either way. The kings will be mired in no prospects in the a, low draft picks and locked cap. A perferct spot for the modern professional quiet quitter

Good luck LA. If they can keep him motivated he can be very impactful, he will however go through stretches where he provides you nothing.

Hes kind of right, after he forced his way out it did create a need for a rebuild. Now we get to look forward to guys like Fantilli/Johnson/Jiricek along with Laine instead of wondering what version of Dubois would show up to any given game.

I also hope Vilardi keeps improving for Winnipeg, he alone isnt even a significant downgrade

I don't think that makes anything mutually exclusive. You can give 100% of yourself on the ice and still place a premium on the off-ice value of where you live. Shit, I would too.

Yeah, folks are forgetting that hockey is simply a job to these guys. They haven't signed a sacred oath to the Religion of Hockey where everything is hockey 24/7/365 like some monks stuck on a Nepal mountaintop. The rest of the time when they are not practicing or playing is their own, and they have the same right as everybody else to be happy in their lives. If living in LA makes him happy for whatever reason, then power to him and power to anybody else who makes a move so that they are more happy.

I think the beef comes from the fact that most NHL players strongly aspire to play in the NHL, not "live a certain lifestyle"

Makes him come across like an entitled chode when other people's passion is just his free ride

So... being an elite pro athlete is a free ride?

CBJ and Winnipeg fans could answer that better, I guess. I know he had the final shift in Columbus but not sure how much he suffered from engagement issues otherwise. I never watched him consistently but I've watched him a decent amount (especially with the Habs rumors) and he looked good to me.

Huh? He confirmed that it was even after the trade to LA happened. He said LA wanted him more.
Hes capable of dominate streches and hes also capable of disappearing completely. Been that way since he entered the league. Pretty much why he and Torts had an intense relationship, sometimes he needs his buttons pushed which you'd obviously prefer not to be the case for someone making 8.5mil. We'll see of the highs and lows stay or if this apparently new happy Dubois keeps his quality of play up

Because of him there will be no rebuild. Jet fans thank him for making the the jets a better team.

Err... I guess that 2024 2nd better turn into a superstar if Dubois trade changed the course of the Jets lol.

I'm all for bagging on PLD, but the Jets were already in bad shape, and those Scheifele and Hellebuyck contracts were ugly before the ink dried.

I've always been bullish on Dubois, but he comes across totally as a player with all the talent in the world, but a peanut of a brain that will hold himself back from realizing it.

He wants to live the metropolitan lifestyle where he doesn't have to worry about hockey, wants to impress his starry eyed family, doesn't want to be part of a rebuild
Thought these would rule out Montreal 🤷‍♂️ but doesnt really matter at this point.

“metropolitan lifestyle where he doesn't have to worry about hockey”

Oh boy. If playing hockey for millions of dollars per year is so inconvenient and stressing for him, he’s not going to be the positive driving force you expect at that AAV. Keeping him motivated will be a nightmare with the slightest hardship, which definitely spells toxicity in an NHL locker room. Remember MacKinnon’s drive to win, the work ethic he expected from his team and contrast it here. Yeesh.
Sounds like he wants everything that comes with being the big dog without actually being the big dog himself. Good for him for taking his career into his hands nonetheless

Ahhh gotcha. Yeah I guess 'metropolitan' was the most important aspect of it all then. Back when he opened up his list at the start of the off-season, the names I recall hearing were LA, Montreal, NYC and Nashville.

This. He's acting entitled when every other player in the NHL has to to go through the exact same process. This has all been negotiated between the NHLPA and the NHL. But apparently he's too good for that.

It would be one thing if say he had family that has some medical issues and he wanted to be closer(or some valid reason to not be where he was drafted) other than... well I didn't like where I was drafted and I get to choose in 3 years where I get to play but that's not soon enough so I want to pick now.
What did he do that's against what was negotiated by the NHLPA? They all had a choice and chose to get assets back rather than walk the RFA arbitration line through to to UFA. You can either get 3 years worth of assets or you can hold the guy hostage and get 3 years of his time.

Really weird how much a tax bracket effects perceptions of choice and individuality on this site. As long as he hasn't broken any rules, I don't see why him choosing where to be employed is considered morally dubious compared to the average working class person choosing where they want to be employed.

I mean everybody knew this, there is no new information here.

The guy was and still remains a dbag who gave up on two teams and then used Montreal as leverage to go where he actually wanted.

Will be interesting to see how his contract ages. Good player but hardly a superstar; if the Kings flounder I expect him to cry his way out yet again.

They where a playoff team last year at the deadline and since then they got nemestikov neidereiter kupari iafalo and valari. For a washed up Wheeler and pld. That's a huge upgrade. Way better team this year. This will be 7 out of 8 years to make playoffs. 40 goal scorer and vesina goalie extending is a bad thing i guess to some. Not 1 gm in the league wouldnt have signed them to the exact same contracts. . Elite players playing into their mid 30's is the norm not the exception.

1. If Mark Scheifele is an elite player, there are a lot of elite players in the league.

2. Goalies specifically have famously aged well into their mid to late 30s. :sarcasm:

3. Today I learned that players such as Namestnikov, Kupari, and Neidereitter are "Huge upgrades".

Elite players still being elite into their mid 30s is the exception not the norm. Look at Kopitar and Doughty last playoffs constantly picking the puck out of their own net.

Isn't that the whole point of PLD and Brandt Clarke, though?
