more Madden on Kunitz for Jagr...basically Jagr trades have been talked about before but "this time the right people are talking about it"

Did he just say Malkin possibly out 10-14 days?

I heard him say it was likely to happen.
That was before the Maatta injury, but don't let that stop an internet little willy measuring contest over what "likely" means

He said it was on the table but that was prior to Maatta officially being out for year. after that he said no chance Martin is moved

I'm just telling you what i heard, he said it was likely to happen on pens radio.

The pens knew Maatta was most likely going to be out at that time, we even knew Maatta was going to be out from Cole's source.

If you want to use something to defend Madden you could say Pearson and Toffoli got injured and sick since then.

If Kunitz does have the boo boo face over Bylsma being gone, would that really surprise anyone here?

I really think that he grew to love DB's joke practices. Not having to skate hard for so many years probably hastened his decline.

Kunitz just isn't St.Louis, Hossa, Sedin... those guys can be old and good, Kunitz is just old.

Maatta was shopping around for more opinions, so it was only a rumor he was out for the season.

So what he said/meant was, if Maatta is going to play this season again, it's likely the trade happens.

I know it's popular to crap all over Madden and most of the media, but there's plenty of real stuff to use. No need to fabricate something.

You must be related to Madden or something.

I'l give him credit about the Neal trade last year, he was talking about Neal getting traded since the end of last year, but hes also been wrong about things as well.

I'm not going to tell what you should believe, but IMO this Kunitz and Jagr stuff is BS.

And i also have a hard time believing Geno likes to play with Spaling, why would he want to play with Spaling.

I take it the bolded is a shot at Ray Shero, who in the summer of 2011 felt it was more important to re-sign Tyler Kennedy then try and get Jagr.

I'm not saying that there is or isn't any truth in him Kunitz/Jagr rumors. I'm just saying that you're saying that it's 100% false based on a quote from him that you're taking out of context.

Madden talking about trading for Jagr is great for his show, his listeners will eat that up, to me it seems like the perfect rumor to help his show.

Forget who it was, but someone linked a bunch of Kunitz interviews from camp where he looked like he swallowed a lemon the last time Madden said Kunitz was angry about DB being gone.

If you can get rid of Kunitz' cap hit for an expiring contract, any expiring contract, then great. I'm not a fan of Jagr as he fades every year, but he was still an effective possession player for Boston during their run year before last, he just wasn't scoring. Not sure where we'd play him, but I'd still be all over it to get rid of Kunitz.

For the sake of clarity, he's not saying it would necessarily be Kunitz for Jagr just that the Pens are interested in Jagr and interested in getting rid of Kunitz as he claims they feel that he is declining and doesn't want to be here after DB was fired.

Ah ok, because that trade proposal seemed awfully odd.

Jagr for Kunitz, no matter how unlikely, is the perfect deal...

Perron - Crosby - Hornqvist
Comeau - Malkin - Jagr
Spaling - Sutter - Bennett
Arco - Goc - Sill/Adams/Farnham

That's a sexy lineup...our RW depth is now damn good, and our left wing depth is decent depending on how Comeau plays after his return. By no circumstance is Jagr to ever play left wing, though.

Maybe it was posted before, but DK mentioned a little blurb about how he believes all the media blowback about Kunitz making the Olympics last year jaded him a bit. Also touched upon the Bylsma situation.

• Chris Kunitz has changed quite a bit since Sochi. No doubt burned by his native Canada’s blistering criticisms of his selection to the Olympic roster, he’s become visibly more guarded around all media. (I’m not talking about myself here at all. And even if I were, my writings in Russia were wholly supportive of his selection and, in fact, I forecast in print that Kunitz would have a big gold-medal game against Sweden, which he did with a blistering wrister that beat Henrik Lundqvist.) That’s understandable. It happens to the best. One would just hope that it doesn’t carry onto the rink in any form.

• Kunitz and Paul Martin were among the players unhappy that the Penguins fired Dan Bylsma, but both have absolutely, unquestionably come around and bought in to what Mike Johnston and staff are selling.

Much ado about nothing. I don't put any stock into this whatsoever. Chris Kunitz was never drafted. He rose the ranks all the way to the NHL and eventually won a Gold Medal at the Olympics representing the best hockey nation on Earth. If this guy were fazed by naysayers, he would have given up long, long ago. I refuse to believe that Kunitz gives two ***** what wordsmiths have to say about him.

Listening to Madden...Kunitz is gone. I don't know if this Jagr stuff is BS or not, but I'd bet money Kunitz is not in camp this fall.

There's a full court press of "I've heard that Chris Kunitz doesn't like babies."

This isn't Madden talking out of his ass; it's the Pens' PR apparatus talking through him. Turn the casual fan against 14 so it doesn't look like you've traded him out of nowhere to the guy who thinks Adams is a critical part of the Pens PK.

Pirates did this when they didn't want to sign Burnett, Pens did the same thing with Neal, as well, prior to his trade.

Which isn't to say I object, particularly.

I wonder if this is why Johnston seems insistent on Kunitz playing on the top line....make him look better for a potential trade?

It's kinda interesting how transparent that is then. Good to hear if it turns out to be true.

You may be right about the Pens PR playing it's hand, but nothing has poisoned Kunitz's reputation more than his own putrid play this year. I mean, how casual of fan do you have to be to not see him dogging it night in and night out???
