Assuming JR signs the Big O pens will have 6 def signed long term.

That might hurt us with these players, even though we have very little def prospects in the system.

Sometimes it does; you can't win them all.

In general though, having a strong farm team and recent tradition of promoting college players quickly counterbalances that.

Tariq Hammond didn't look anything like I thought he would when I saw his name in that article .

What a terrible season it has been for Sam Lafferty. From a 35 pts season in 31 games to a slim 9 pts in 20 games. I was expecting so much more from him, so disappointing.

Gustavsson was 20 seconds from a shutout :(
saved 22/23 in a 4-1 win, so a good game anyway.

I just realized that Olund has quietly gotten back to having a pretty good season this year. He now has 16 points in 37 games, after having 15 points in 39 games last year. That is pretty good, especially considering he had a pretty crappy start to the year IIRC.

Here's top-10 for scoring in SHL this season amongst players born in 1996 or later (Ölund in 1997 birthday):

1. Elias Pettersson (1998, VAN) 31 GP 13+25=38
2. Rasmus Asplund (1997, BUF) 37 GP 6+19=25
3. Jonathan Davidsson (1997, CBJ) 38 GP 7+15=22
4. Lukas Vejdemo (1996, MTL) 38 GP 9+10=19
5. Robin Kovacs (1996, NYR/contract terminated so UFA currently) 30 GP 8+11=19
6. Einar Emanuelsson (1997, undrafted) 31 GP 9+8=17
7. Linus Ölund (1997, PIT) 37 GP 6+10=16
8. Lucas Carlsson (1997, CHI) 36 GP 7+8=15
9. Kevin Stenlund (1996, CBJ) 31 GP 5+10=15
10. Lias Andersson (1998, NYR) 22 GP 7+7=14

That Pettersson kid is pretty good...

That list should show that Ölund is doing pretty good in SHL for someone his age.

I figure Olund will come over to the AHL next season and we'll get a better gauge of his NHL upside then.

Gustavsson quickly turned around his mediocre save%, he's now up to a .912 save%, which he also has last year and is pretty good for the SHL. He has been really good since coming back from the WJC.

Not sure why Lulea’s riding Gustavsson over Lassinantti but I’ll take it.

Gustavsson got b2b starts this weekend. He had 24 saves today in a 2-1 loss.

Since returning from WJC, Gustavsson has started 6 of the 7 games for Luleå. His team has only won two of those six games but not because of Gus. He has only allowed 8 goals in those games and has a SV% of .950 from those games. He's very much carried over his great form from the WJC to the SHL.

If he's going to be the starter then another year in Luleå wouldn't be a bad thing.

He’d probably see as many starts in the AHL even platooning with DeSmith as he would in the SweHL, with the advantage of working with our goalie gurus Buckley and Sullivan.

Some kind of neck injury that he keeps reaggravating. In one article they compared it to Sid's neck thing years back.

Wonderful. Just what we need. An underdeveloped offensive game being sidetracked by losing a year of development in his final year of junior.

I think that’s another risk when taking safe, older, low upside players. That much more easily derailed by injury or other adversities.

Sprong had a significant injury and missed a lot of development time but his talent level helped him overcome it.

And it helps when you’ve had previous success to fall back on, which Sprong had and Lauzon really doesn’t.

Latest i can find on Lauzon is(from an article today):

Zachary Lauzon practiced without a yellow jersey this week. "The guys are still paying attention to him. We are going gradually in his case, "he explained.
