Zibanejad has missed 9 games this year and has 22 goals with 11 games left. That's roughly 30 goals over a full season. He's 24. There is still growth there. When he has Kreider next to him, he looks dominant. Kevin Hayes took a step forward. Buchnevich, in spite of his limited ice time, has hit 40 points. You added Namestnikov and Spooner who both have fit in well. You've got Chytil, Andersson and Howden on the way. I'm not that concerned about the forwards. They've got two late firsts which I hope they use on some boom type of forwards.

It's the defense, especially on the right side that's the issue. Maybe Gorton can move up and get a Boqvist, or at least a Bouchard. Of maybe they take a chance on Bode Wilde, great skill and size, RH, and headed to Michigan which should help him tighten up his game.

Definitely not concerned about the forwards as well and i'm sure we can find a Kravtsov type in the late first round (hopefully) to give us a possible threat on the wing for the future. Like you said we need to hit on a potential top pair dman. If we drop any further i'm not sure that will happen

It's about dang time we caught a lottery break.
We've had two top 3 picks ever. One was in 1965, our only first overall Andre Veilleux and 1966 Brad Park at number 2 overall. Since 1967 we haven't picked higher than 4th (Brendl) and that pick was traded for.

After having the tied for best odds in the Crosby draft and ending up with the 16th pick from that lottery, we really are owed a break by the hockey draft gods.

We did get the best skater in franchise history at 9th overall in 1986. And Hank was a 7th rounder but that was just luck.

We are pickig 20 and onwards.
I think on draft day we see a different story. At least, I think GJ will use some chips, some of them picks but what remains to be seen is which players. I know the general concensus is Zuccs will be traded.
Perhaps you are correct. Perhaps the chips/tradeable player(s) will be used to bring in an impact NHL player ready to go, and the Rangers will draft later and not make the effort to move up.
I guess it all depends where the team finishes.

Pionk is a player. Not a bit player. A real player.

Can someone loop Giorgiev stopping Malkin on the penalty shot with "ain't nuthin' but a G thang" in the background? G is a player too. As much as I want a great draft pick I feel real joy for these guys when they go and do the things they aren't supposed to be able to do. I can't root for the future kids without rooting for the present kids. These kids have heart. They aren't dumping games. That's a good foundation. Scouts, work as hard as these kids are. You arent getting a top 10 pick by the looks of it. So do your work and find the guy nobody else is looking at. But get players. That is all.

We have the ammo to move up into the top 10, maybe even top 5 if we are that far out after the lotto

I hate that we may have to trade one of our firsts and another 2nd or 3rd rounder to move up a few places with our first pick. There could be some decent gems in the late first round.

Honestly what do you think it would cost this team in terms of assets to get EK this offseason?

Honestly? Just enough to not embarass Dorion and Ottawa.

Nobody is going to give Ott a haul for EK. That ship sailed with the closing of the trade deadline. And not a single GM is going to give up anything substantial unless EK commits to re-sign. Add to that the fact that maybe, just maybe EK already decided where he wants to spend the rest of his career and you have a situation where Dorion only has one choice. Take the scraps from that one team EK will re-sign with or let him go for nothing a year later.

I'm going Farrabee with our first pick, trade up for Bode Wilde, then grab Kravtsov with our late 1st.
I’m completely fine with this, Farabee will be something special and he’s from NY as well
I wouldn’t take Wilde though
If we miss out on Dahlin/Svech/Zadina/Hughes/Bouchard/Boqvist/Wahlstrom, id draft Farabee
1st round (where our picks currently are)

9th overall-Farabee
27th-Kravtsov/Bokk
30th-Samuelsson/K’Andre Miller/Alexeyev/Sandin likely the last three because Matthias will go early 20s imo

2nd rounders-
Blake McLaughlin/Cole Fonstad/Nils Lundkvist (who I hope will be there and not jump into first round like some think and also for last name reasons)

3rd rounders
Iskhakov+Shafigullin

In a few years I’m positive Farabee and Kravtsov will be 1st rounders and I see really high upside in all of those defensemen listed at 30.
Bokk is Ehlers-like and also a righty shot
McLaughlin is a deadly sniper, Fonstad has really high upside and Lundkvist also has real high potential
Iskhakov+Shafigullin also have elite potential imo although it’s a huge question mark if they can hit it
We have a lot of safe prospects, now it’s time to draft high upside guys

Sure. How about 1k they don’t win the cup within the next 3 years and they don’t pick less than 10th overall before then.

I say they make playoffs in 2 years and are real contenders in 3. Winning the cup within 3 years is a little optomistic but I like the direction they are headed and I expect Gorton to make good decisions with the chips he has accumulated.

Both may be gone Definitely the latter :( Hughes seems to be higher than dobson so maybe dobson could be had at 9.

Bode Wilde. RHD high-skill and excellent skating, going to Michigan. Has 1D upside, but not a sure thing.

One of Dobson or Bouchard should still be there at 9. If they're both gone that means that someone else (Hughes, Boqvist, Wahlstrom) fell, and we should take that player.
This is true but with our luck two teams outside of bottom 3 teams sneak into top 3 pick and drop us to 11.

Call me a little too "safe" but i want more of a sure thing with our first pick then swing for fences with our 24-31 picks

They were willing to do that last year. I have no problem them doing that if the player they want is within reach. I also still think Zucc brings back another 1st, so they'll have one to play with.
