Awfully expensive 3c, but you get a guy to come in while you're committed to the old core and pick up an draft pick to help their eventual rebuild.

Henrique went as a rental to Edmonton this year with only slightly better stats than Hayes. Hayes could be a decent pick up at this TDL or next years to fill a similar role.

Exactly smith is on the move for a 25 pick or a couple this year. Pens are kinda set here with openings and Hayes can be that wing or center that gives the Pens a body that has some skill, size and maybe a PP net presence.

3.5 million isn't that awfully expensive for a 3rd line centre. He's certainly overpaid but valuewise it is a fine trade. Doesn't really make sense to me with Eller and Acciari still in the building.

Who knows but on the surface, it’s a head scratcher for the Pens. Even with the pick.
Why? Although they may believe they have a chance to complete, they really don't. Taking on a bad contract to have high picks to replenish a once league worse prospect pool will never be a bad thing.

Only small negative is not sending out salary with him. But getting an early second is very good for the Pens. Now have 3 early 2nd round picks.

That is an idiotic decision by the Blues. Why in the world would you pay an early second to dump a guy when you are gonna suck the next two years anyway? This is so dumb.
Culture.. He's a negative influence and easily replaceable on the roster. Slower than slow. Dubas must be drunk today.

How in the hell can people say anything negatively about this move from Dubas?

Just lunacy. Just did what a team in a rebuild should be doing. Taking bad contracts for a high draft pick is one thing that will speed up the rebuild.

Didn't realize there was a rebuild with Crosby and Malkin at the end of their careers.
