JR says Sully knows Brassard really well, but when Sullivan was with the Rags, I don't think they ever pulled that deal yet, because I remember Dubinsky and Animisov still there around that time. Curious how they know each other so well. That just seemed so random, was curious about it.
Sullivan interview: Do you know Brassard? "I do, I coached him for a period of time with the Rangers, when I was there. He's a terrific kid, a real good person, I think he will fit into our locker room extremely well."

"And he's a real good player. He's a real good 200 foot center icemen. He's got an offensive dimension to his game, he's good defensively. We are excited to have him, we think his game is going to make us better."

How would he mesh with Phil? "He distributes the puck really well, he sees the ice, he's got real good offensive instincts, regardless of who we play him with, he's gonna bring that element to the line. He's a guy that's good on face-offs....he's got real good offensive instincts, as I said, he's been a top 2 center icemen in the league for a long time. And I know he's gonna make our team better. I think he can play the style of play that we are trying to play. I think he will fit right in."

There are still big names that could be moved. Karlsson and McDonagh are 2 of them. Should be an interesting weekend
If EK is moved, maybe, but I don't think a contending team will move the necessary assets in order to get him. That's a MONSTER player to be moved at the deadline. Just seems unlikely to me.

Brassard is the kind of player I would never worry about not playing well with any of our wingers. I think you could pretty much put any of our top 9 wingers with him and he's going to do his thing well. It's almost unfair to have Brassard. Glad it's for us.

This trade is bonkers on every level. Amazing work to keep Sprong.

Has there ever been a 3-way trade before where Team A receives Player X from Team B and Team C retains on Player X's contract?

Had family business to attend to this morning so came back and found and 6-1 score line, and this convoluted web of genius.

I was not all that thrilled about the potential acquisition costs and accompanying cap-hit on Brassard, but at 3 million for this season and next, that is one valuable piece indeed, and on the forward side of things we are set to look quite ridiculous until July 2019.

I don't like losing Cole, but as asset management goes, with him being UFA after the season, it does hurt less. Would not be at all surprised if JR moves for D after this though, but I suppose they can wait until after the Florida game and assess where they think Hunwick is at after a handful of games back in the lineup. It has been better than it was before Cole re-took his place for sure, but it is still a loss.

If I'm Sully, I start playing the 1993 Isles series over and over in the gym, locker room, etc. Let the players know even the best of the best can fall. If you want to do the unthinkable, you have to be mentally prepared and even then you will need a couple bounces.

I love the hate. I absolutely genuinely love the hate we get. People are just mad that other teams have drafted high, tried to develop, tried to hire the right people and sign the right guys and have not been able to replicate the kind of success the Pens have had since the 2005 lock out. People genuinely hate us and it cracks me up and I love it.

We're the Bond Villain that everyone cheers for and boo's when the good guy tries to beat us, we're the envy of the league and I love it. I hope this team just runs an absolute train through the league and just destroys every team's Will the way they have the Capitals in the playoffs.

The best part, we have the 4 centers for another year at least (Sheahan is a RFA).

So bring the hate, fans of lesser teams.

Same, I love all the hate.

My response as always...Bring it!!

To OTT: Cole (PIT), Gustavsson (PIT), PIT 1st 2018 (PIT), PIT 3rd 2019 (PIT)
To VGK: Reaves (PIT), VAN 4th 2018 (PIT)
TO PIT: Brassard (OTT; VGK retaining 40%), Lindberg (VGK), Dunn (OTT), OTT 3rd 2018 (OTT)

So, the league nixed JR's original deal. So, in the revised deal, he gets two whatever prospects, a 3rd, and an extra million in cap space for adding Reaves and a 2019 3rd to the deal.

Searching for the right word.

Eh, forget it . . .

Do not bring other boards up. It only leads to bad stuff. Keep this in check. It's an amazing day but we all know how difficult it is to win. 2013 we dominated March and looked unstoppable. We were stopped. Let's enjoy it but keep other boards out of here. :)

If we can't enjoy a trade that defeats morale... what can we enjoy?

I wasn't particularly attached to Cole, but we did lose a legit bottom pairing depth piece if nothing else. I'd trust Ruh to step in for a few games but he hasn't played much all year and I'm not sure about any of the WBS guys. Maybe a cheap #6 UFA would be nice.

If the forwards remain intact, what are your forward lines? 59-15-81 has looked really good of late, but I'm probably still inclined to try Brassard there.

46 - 87 - 72
62 - 71 - 17
59 - 19 - 81
12 - 15 - 43
34, 37

I am starting to like that Aston-Reese/Crosby combination. I think Malkin is going to dominate match-ups just as long Hagelin is attached to his hip - so try putting Hornqvist with Sid. If that's not enough transition/too heavy for Sid, then try swapping Guentzel and ZAR eventually. Either way, love the options.

So I'm still unclear : is Vegas retaining for both years or just this year? I've found only 2 mentions of this year.

Anyone with a link that confirms both years?

Still think it's to good to be true if Vegas is retaining another $2M next year for just a 4th rd pick and Reaves.

No weaknesses in the forwards is awesome. Guentzel and Sid will have to take a few PK faceoffs but man, we probably aren't going to take many penalties cause the puck will be on our sticks the entire game.

Said i was way in favor of getting Brass if the cost was a 1st+Gus+one of Sheary or Sprong.
So to keep Sheary and Sprong makes me pretty happy.
JR's bang on saying we lost something on D.
Go get it before Monday 3pm.

It's both years. Salary retention is always over the entire life of the contract.

If Sully actually watched tonight's he would realize that 72 needs to be next to 87 unless we can get another RW. There's no way Rust and some other midget or WBS recall should be on that line. Simon, Sid and Rust were really bad ...can't be a PO line
