Said i was way in favor of getting Brass if the cost was a 1st+Gus+one of Sheary or Sprong.
So to keep Sheary and Sprong makes me pretty happy.
JR's bang on saying we lost something on D.
Go get it before Monday 3pm.
Who's out there that we can get though? Maybe Panthers have had enough of Petrovic? their fans have.

So I'm still unclear : is Vegas retaining for both years or just this year? I've found only 2 mentions of this year.

Anyone with a link that confirms both years?

Still think it's to good to be true if Vegas is retaining another $2M next year for just a 4th rd pick and Reaves.

It's both. If you retain, the percentage holds for the same contract.

What more can you say? Terrific trade. Brassard is, in my mind, the best fit possible for what this team wants to do given what was realistically available. They had to give up a pretty good haul but this team is absolutely on fire, right now. They just ran over (an admittedly bad) Carolina with little effort and without Cole and while this trade was pretty much going down. All their best players are performing (some to a near other-level degree), Murray looks locked back in, their lines are starting to come together and a guy like Brassard, who is a second line center most places, can really bring it all together, I think.

You have to admire a team that recognizes when they have something potentially pretty special, maybe even historic, and aren't afraid to do everything they can to make it happen.

I'll miss Reaves' big personality. I'm glad Vegas had him in mind. I still scratch my head a little over the whole idea. But I appreciate him as a player.

He kept Sprong for now . . .

But will it be for a D man? I hope not. Our strength is offense and we should add to that strength IMO....if he can make another hockey trade for a winger for Sid who has term, I'd be willing to give up Sprong...and that's from someone who likes Sprong

JR with a masterful job, you got to hand it to him. He didn't give up as much as some of us thought. He actually got us a 3rd back in a deep draft, and Vegas is picking up 40% of DB's salary. Incredible!

You pretty much had this one most of the way, yeah. I doubt JR is done, either. Maybe even bigger not-done that some realize, knowing him.

Take the pupper out with you while you're doing a loop or two around the house at my expense though, eh? :D

Brassard is the kind of player I would never worry about not playing well with any of our wingers. I think you could pretty much put any of our top 9 wingers with him and he's going to do his thing well. It's almost unfair to have Brassard. Glad it's for us.
As in top 9 wingers you do mean

Kessel, Hagelin, Hornqvist, Guentzel, Simon, ZAR,Rust, Sheary, Kuhnackel,......,

Because I think you meant to say top 10.... Including Sprong.

Dang are we deep.

Where I got thrown was on how masterfully JR leveraged not being willing to give Gust and saying it would be Sprong, Gust, 1st with a cap element (Hunwick) if it happened. But, the original deal was comparable value given Cole's flip value. Only reason the final deal was better was because of Melnyk not wanting to eat any money and GMGM getting involved to do GMJR a solid.

If I'm Sully, I start playing the 1993 Isles series over and over in the gym, locker room, etc. Let the players know even the best of the best can fall. If you want to do the unthinkable, you have to be mentally prepared and even then you will need a couple bounces.

Sully is the right coach to keep them in check, no doubt about that. Too much at stake.

Why not Sprong for Sid's wing??? Sid seemed to enjoy his time with Sprong and the kid has the talent to play with him.
If the line is ZAR-Sidney-Sprong then that works and I really like this combo. I think it should be a thing

ZAR- Sidney-Sprong
Hagelin-Malkin-Hornqvist
Guentzel-Brassard-Kessel
Sheary-Sheahan-Rust
PK: C:Brassard,C:Sheahan, W:Rust, W:Hagelin, W:ZAR
Extras: Simon,Rowney, Kuhnackel

Yeah that was... pretty f***ing heroic on GMGM's part. I mean... 40% -- that's probably the most pivotal part of the whole deal.

I also have to agree that there was a little bit of a nod from GMGM there for doing business in good faith earlier on re: Fleury. Before I got home and saw the final deal, I was talking to a co-worker (who was complaining a bit about the price paid) about how part of JR's whole bag of tricks is to make fair deals to help pave the way for long-term favors.
