How were they brutal? I saw one give away by Fox in the offensive zone. Heck, Lindgren even made a good back check when they called him on the bogus penalty.
They got dominated at 5v5, that's how. I could give you the data but I doubt it would be worth it.

If I don't see another ABC game, it would be of great benefit to my health. I'm tired of experiencing vertigo from their overhead cameras in motion. Whoever the hell came up with this ridiculous idea, ought to double up on their medication and have their walls padded to avoid injuring themselves.
Yeah.

I like the overhead view - it helps to know what's going away from the puck - but the moving camera is rough.

We need a healthy Kakko back ASAP. Hunt is f***ing brutal offensively.
Kakko hasn’t been much better to be honest. He needs to learn how to be assertive with his body and stop playing soft. Maybe it’s his youth and inexperience but Kakko needs to use his body more and keep his feet moving. He always seems to be lagging out there.

Fox and Lindgren were brutal today. I think it might be time to shake up the pairings. Just to give it a different look. Fox doesn't look nearly as dynamic as he did his first two seasons either. I don't know what's going on with him.
He looks hurt or tired.
Start to give him less minutes for a bit

Kakko started to look great when he was healthy. Then he was playing hurt for weeks and look bad. Healthy Kakko = good

My reasonable Pens fan friend called this an “unsatisfying” win because of how bad the call was.

I am confident that Jarry doesn’t outduel Igor in a seven game series. The Pens are a good team, but more of an annoying, solid team than a juggernaut, scary one.

Lastly, I’m getting sick of both Panarin and Strome. I can’t stand their approach to the game 5 on 5.

They've both had a bad influence on each other. Strome has looked better whenever Panarin is out of the lineup. Panarin was a 5v5 animal his first season here but not anymore. Relentless effort all over the ice every shift and making things happen every single night. Now he's just content to play catch with his buddy and try and force highlight reel plays.

I'm willing to bet Fox has been playing through an injury for the past few months. I mean, he eventually missed time due to it but I think he'd been hurt for a while and it got aggravated at that point where he had to sit and him coming back isn't him at 100% just him at a good enough level to play.

Would not shock me at all when our season ends to find out he's having some sort of surgery.

Would not surprise me either
Just doesn’t look right

Anyone else have a suspicion that Panarin has been playing hurt for a while now?

JT Miller had to leave the Rangers to become the version of JT Miller that could help save the Rangers.

It's kind of like Bruce Wayne leaving Gotham to gain the skills that would help him save Gotham in Batman Begins.

JT Miller is our Batman.

This is awesome. The Vancouver Canucks are the League of Shadows.

This, in spades. Pour me another. Cheers man.
Yea it was pretty terrible.
Those stupid match minors the morons kept calling took the flow out of our game and made it impossible to roll 4 lines with any type of consistency.
The Barron/Gauthier/McKegg line had about 7 mins of ice time.
I don’t remember them having a shift since early in the 2nd...
The officiating was just poor.
We still had some chances we should have buried, and certainly some of our guys didn’t have an excellent game, but even still that was pathetic.

Panarin being off, plus them shading the pass to Zibby on our PP didn’t help either

My take?

Fine game. Tight games are okay. Getting shutout happens.

However, the Panarin/Strome situation is the biggest problem with the team right now. We can’t sign Strome long term if you want Panarin to be worth his paycheck. The end. Bottom six needs help, McKegg shouldn’t be in the NHL, but fine, with Blais, Kakko and Chytil out the depth is going to take a bit. Adding a player like Lehkonen, Jarnkrok, etc at the deadline isn’t tough. Getting the Panarin line to play actual f***ing hockey again… that’s a problem. They need to be broken up. Put Strome on the third line. Let Goodrow and Barron or Chytil or even f***ing Hunt/Reaves bang around on that line until Panarin realizes he needs to be first year in NY Panarin again instead of just playing catch with his bff.

Thanks for saving me the effort of typing all of this. Anyone paying attention can see it clear as day. Panarin has stopped moving his feet & looks to make a cross ice pass, which 95% of them are picked off or deflected out of the zone. It's beyond problematic at this point, which makes a Strome extension completely untenable.

While everyone thought the Rangers play was poor, I thought they had a very good game. Felt like a playoff game.

Well done, Penguins.
I thought they played fine for the most part. The Panarin-Strome combo is becoming problematic though. They’re a living embodiment of what’s wrong with the team’s even strength play.

They play every one of their shifts like they think they’re on the power play.

Book is pretty much out on Fox by now. You can see how teams are throwing caution to the wind and rushing him the moment the puck heads toward his general direction. Fox won't skate by anyone and opposing players don't exactly bounce off him. Combine those attributes with Fox's tendency to wait until the very last second to make a pass, well...he is just not as effective right now. Admittedly, the most recent negative play may just be coloring my impression of him. Not likely though...hell I just want Super Fox to come back!

May just be as simple as managing his minutes better. With Scheinder's emergence, might be time to get Fox off the PK.

I don’t usually make these hypothetical lineups but I think this is how the lineup needs to look going into the playoffs. They need to go get two forwards who can do the defense and chip in some goals.

Kreider-Mika-Laf
Panarin-Strome-Kakko
Goodrow and two other legit vet middle sixers
Gauthier-Barron-Reaves
Black Aces: Rooney Hunt
Traded: Chytil

Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Jones-Schneider
Black Aces: Nemeth, Tinordi
Traded: Hajek

Igor
Kincaid or another vet
Traded: Georgiev

Lindgren lifted his stick, and as he was diving like a bitch, it got his hands.
Yep. If that’s on Greg McKegg it’s not a penalty. Again, can’t win without scoring but that cap at that time was lame. Refs changed how they were calling the match midway through when it started to get chippy. It was just poorly officiated. Not the reason the rangers lost but that call was the nail in the coffin.

Quick thoughts: Rangers lost a coin flip. The team played like they know they are going to meet in the playoffs. Strome is killing the Panarin line since the break.

Color me shocked. Nationally televised game in Shitsburgh, Crosby has a menstrual cramp, which leads to winning the game. Same shit for the last 15+ years. But hey, at least they called 1 of the 7 cross checks in a row on Hunt.

Both goalies play great and a bad call in favor of Crosby decides the game. We saw these games 3 times a year from 08-14.
